  1. I have had to switch my days at work so find myself at a loose end on a rainy tuesday. Anyone else going to cp toddler world or anything else happening? X
  2. For both of my synto inductions I had epidurals from different anaesthetists and by that stage both of them were 'dreamy' to me too :) great to hear all the positive feedback for kings - so much nicer for mums-to-be to read than some of the scare stories on here 3 years ago.
  3. Thank you again everyone. The lump has got a lot smaller and the redness has got quite a lot better - although for the first day of antibiotics it got worse - more red and a bigger lump - nhs direct told me that was normal. I have made an appointment to see the gp on thursday. My prescription was only for a week so will get a longer course. I will also discuss the fluclox but will first see if this continues to clear the lump. One thing I was not prepared for was how itchy it would feel while it was being trreated. I had not read that about mastitis and wonder if that was unusual? Fingers crossed but I think I caught it quite early so that was lucky. While it was definitely painful for the first night before i went to A & E it was nowhere near the continued and relentless pain I had with tongue tie/skin infections and thrush in the beginning. I was actually just starting to think about how to go about stopping breastfeeding (although I hadnt yet cut down feeds) when this happened as my baby is almost 1 and I am feeling that for us it is time to start ramping down. Need to watch out for mastitis while ramping down though as I know it can be a result of engorgement. No idea how we're going to stop though as daughter completely refuses all milk (breast/formula/cow/soya) via any other medium (bottle/sippy/sports cup/syringe) and screams bloody murder until she gets boob. I am totally exhausted though from a toddler + 1 year old + work + still waking at least twice a night, often for a couple of hours + doing every single feed for a year. Ah well!! Bit of a digression there - hope this doesnt count as moaning on moan free day! Thanks again x
  4. Good idea. Just dug my acidophilus out from the back of the fridge and found they're still ok. Last time these were used was ten months ago dealing with all the problems associated with Tongue tie and breastfeeding....
  5. Maybe it's a cultural thing. Our nanny is Hungarian and pregnant and says all baby girls have their ears pierced straight after birth so perhaps it is done by the doctor?
  6. Antibiotics are co-amoxiclav and amoxicillin - chosen based on only trace getting into breast milk from them I think. Took them after Tongue tie snip early on as well for bacterial infections on surface. Erythromycin turned baby into a monster back then so hope these work. Mum died of breast cancer quite young so they were quite thorough at checking lump but good to hear breast clinic is good x
  7. Thank you everyone. I took more pills after first vomiting as very close to taking them but not after second as had been over an hour or so. I have rung NHS direct who will call back. I will go and take a hot bath/shower too. If it gets worse Ill go back to hospital and ask for IV drip antibiotics. Just worried about husband will cope with two! X
  8. I've just come back from a and e, early stage mastitis, large hard lump on one side, red skin, have oral antibiotics. Feeling pretty rubbish, bit fluey etc. Taken first set of pills but just thrown up. Do you think I should take another set? How soon after taking antibiotics did it clear up if you've had mastitis? A and e were good, told me to go straight back if felt worse or didn't clear in 24 hours. But dont want to head back immediately and wont be able to ask on phone. Thanks x
  9. Congratulations Ruth! Glad she is out safe and sound. Enjoy the newborn snuggles xx
  10. I'm finding it really hard to visualise what a rubber floor would look like? I've never heard of it. It is like lino? I hate our kitchen floor (old victorian floorboards which we had sanded and stained, but with lots of nails and cracks etc) We were thinking of replacing with stone but so cold!!!
  11. One thing that she took at 6 months was baby rice mixed with formula so I knew she wasn't starving at work, so that gave me time off the feeds.
  12. My first was a bottle refuser but then took mam bottles no problem. My second took a bottle for first 6 weeks while Tongue tie getting sorted but has refused all bottles ever since (she is now 10 months). We have tried variety of bottle types, cups, milk types (ebm, different formulas, cows milk) mixed with water etc), times of day, different people, temperatures etc, with no luck. She prefers to go without milk when I am at work than to have milk from any other source. She does take water from a bottle though. At first I was worried and got stressed about it but now accept that this is how she is, it will not be forever, I enjoy breatfeeding her, there's an evolutionary reason why babies often prefer milk from heir mum, it keeps them closer. I have had to miss some important events including a hen night, the leaving party of a friend who has emigrated to oz and the evening part of my first daughters godmother's wedding. I went out for an evening for the first time in 10 months last weekend (left at 7.30 after bedtime feed and was still back by 11pm in case she woke up). However I really don't feel I'm missing out too much. My friends have been very good at understanding. I am not trying to depress you too much, but just trying to say that although it can seem incredibly frustrating at first it may not actually be as bad as you think, and it will not be forever. Keep trying though! My daughter is particularly obstinate! There is a good list of tips on the baby whisperer website.
  13. I rang them a while ago as I express at work and my daughter doesn't even end up drinking it as she refuses all other methods of drinking other than breast (all bottles, cup, spoon, syringe) however since my baby at the time was older than 6 months they wouldnt take it so I end up throwing it away :( such a waste. I pump to keep up supply as i work part time and feed her more frequently on days i dont work and know that my supply dropped rapidly when dropping feeds for number 1. I pleaded with them but they said the composition is too different to the needs of a newborn. I wish I had done it earlier on, although then I was struggling with the Tongue tie issue for a long time and didn't feel I had any to spare...if we ever go for a third I will definitely do it early on!
  14. We cut 2.5 yr old nap down to one hour about a month ago because was up talking/shouting/singing in bed til 9pm despite bed at 7.30. Seems to have helped a bit. With second (now 10 months) I was happy with short nap in morning in buggy while out with second and kept trying afternoon nap once older one in bed. I just sort of did whatever worked for the first few months though then really focused on getting good afternoon nap using shh pat from about 5 months. It's feels really hard when you've had a bad sleeper for number 1 and you're determined to do things differently for number 2, but then end up doing all the same things again (eg feed to sleep, rocking, sling etc). But theres a reason - because that's what works! Since neither of my two were the type who could ever be put down and self settle this worked fine and then I just started doing more and more putting down awake, patting when they were a bit older. This week was the first time in a very long time both went to sleep, by self, and slept all night and I slept 7 hours without waking. Feel like a new person. I guess what I'm saying is not to beat yourself up about the so called 'bad habits', you're just doing what comes naturally as a parent xx
  15. Very funny...the story of our life. The original has been taken down for copyright but here is a good video of Samuel L Jackson reading it which makes it even funnier I think: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=OYLLCCjUYKc#t=0s
  16. Yes thanks, I will try one of those. Just won't have long for lunch and don't want to traipse around for ages... I always find it more difficult finding somewhere to pump than breastfeed...can't exactly do it in a cafe and if you're somewhere with only one toilet I never want to block it up for others x
  17. Does anyone who knows the city of Bath well have any ideas where I could express milk discretely? Any mum and baby rooms there? Have to go to a museum there for work tomorrow and I usually express at work. I searched for a trusty John Lewis but there isn't one...any ideas? Otherwise I will just have to occupy a cubicle in a toilet somewhere for 20 mins... Not ideal but I've done worse. Thanks x
  18. Thanks for the ideas everyone, will check them out x
  19. I will be there too, probably at 9.30 although may walk around a bit first if baby sleeping x
  20. Feel like it's time to redecorate my 2.5 yr old daughters bedroom. Anyone have any good cheap ideas? Before she was born I put up jungle stickers (did not find out sex beforehand) and I feel like she's totally bored of them (and has pulled half of them off anyway). Want to keep the walls and blackout blind cream and not planning on changing her furniture. So whatever I do it's not going to look dramatically different. But she's getting really into dressing up, princesses and all that jazz so feel like she would love something along those lines (although I'm not a massive fan of lots of pink girly stuff). Any ideas? She's still in a grobag so can't even buy her a new duvet set. Does anyone have one of those little curtains that go above the bed like a tent?? Inspiration??? Xxx
  21. I'm interested too - although what do you do wih toddler and baby whilst doing class??? Think it may not be logistically possible to find a time I can do (work pt and then have two babies other days) but would like to try.
  22. My baby was too big for P&T cocoon early on too. We put her in sitting up mode on the back (with zips undone so it is as reclining as possible) with one of these for a couple of months. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000DZS720/ref=oss_product The P&T is definitely not ideal but I haven't found something else that seems a lot better.
  23. Our tummy tub is now the bath toy bucket. Both seemed to like it and it is very cute although I didn't find it as easy to use as you're supposed to be able to but I had complete wiggle worms for babies.
  24. Thank you to everyone for your advice. I will ask the gp for a referral tomorrow and speak to a dermatologist about diet as well.
