  1. Sounds good - wish it had been there when I lived next to Forest Hill Road!

  4. Thanks everyone - I will check out Paine and Hunter! Thanks also for the dentist recommendations. Has anyone tried the Townley Road dentist?
  5. Have you tried contacting the council? I realise they don't own the land but they may be able to help somehow. Worth a try I'd say!
  6. Hello, I'm looking for a good local dentist and also an optician. Can anyone recommend any? Thanks very much!
  7. The White Horse has been taken over by the owners of The Montpelier in Peckham: http://peckhampeculiar.tumblr.com/post/126355598054/exclusive-new-owners-of-the-white-horse-revealed

    Jamaican food

It's not East Dulwich per se, but I'm a big fan of JBs Soulfood on Peckham High Street. Their jerk chicken with rice and peas is mouth-wateringly good! You've also got Kitchen 54 on Queens Road, which is great too. I think they do have some Jamaican dishes on the menu? http://peckhampeculiar.tumblr.com/post/102444965646/jamaican-caf?-is-a-hit

  10. I was just reading the Guardian Saturday magazine and the "let's move to" section this week looks at Forest Gate. I'd barely even heard of it before, but having looked at some estate agents' websites it turns out you can buy a three-bed terrace with a garden there for about ?220k! It's a 13 minute train journey into Liverpool Street and it's getting Crossrail in 2017, which will get you to Tottenham Court Road in about ten minutes. Is there any reason why the property prices there are so significantly cheaper than here?
  11. I'm not sure the station needs a ?25 million upgrade. There's a nice mix of businesses there at the moment, some older - the fruit and veg sellers, the hairdressers etc - and some welcome new additions, including Peckham Refreshment Rooms and a new coffee shop that's opening. Perhaps it could do with a little bit of a clean-up but other than that, what's wrong with the place as it is? It's sad to hear that Blenheim Motors (mentioned in the BBC article) is under threat too. I thought the plans were only to refurbish the front of the station - has this now changed? I worry that if this upgrade goes ahead, inevitably Starbucks, Costas and the like will move in, destroying the soul of the place and forcing the little independents out of business.

I definitely wouldn't say the Talfourd Road area is dull! Rye Lane and Bellenden Road are less than a ten minute walk away, as is Cafe Viva on Choumert Road, the Peckham Refreshment Rooms, the Bussey Building and Ganapati. You've also got the Peckham Pelican, the South London Gallery, Angels and Gypsies, the Cinnamon Bakery and Persepolis practically at the bottom of your street. The area is also great for pubs. The Montpelier is just a short walk away, and we go to The Sun, The Tiger, The Bear, The Hermits and The Joiners on a regular basis. As you can see (and probably know already!) there are plenty of fun places to go out. What's also good is that while you're in close proximity to all these places, the area is peaceful and you've got the lovely Warwick Gardens to chill out in if you don't have a garden! I really love it round here, you've definitely got the best of all worlds :)
  13. We have recently moved from East Dulwich to the Talfourd area. We're really loving it - there are loads of good places to go out within walking distance (including the amazing Ganapati and the South London Gallery!) and it's nice having Warwick Gardens just a minute from our door. I would definitely recommend it!
  14. For a good coffee, why not visit the guy actually in Peckham Rye Station at his coffee stand? He does a great macchiato - it gets me going in the mornings! :)
  15. Hi Alan, we just moved house and hired a van through a company called iCanHire, which was brilliant. It works like ZipCar in that their vans are parked at various locations around East Dulwich, Peckham, Camberwell etc, and you simply go and pick them up and they unlock them remotely for you. We hired the largest size of Ford Transit van for 12 hours, and it was parked about five minutes from our flat! Very convenient. This is their website: http://www.icanhire.com/
  16. Hi everyone, thanks for the replies. Checked on the council website and we should have had the green bin emptied yesterday. I will give them a call!
  17. I've just noticed my household waste hasn't been collected today. Has anyone else had the same problem? I'm on St Aidan's Road!
  18. Wrong section - sorry! :)
