But it appears they have not contributed much to society, other then to cause problems and misery. -

I don't know anything about the people who have been evicted from Whately road, but I know the type. I know it may ruffle a few feathers, but I have to say it depresses me that people such as this should always be given all sorts of help when they don't deserve it. Someone said they have been rehoused in better accomodation and even had their removals sorted out for them by the council! Why do they deserve this? I was born and bred in this country and I'm in my forties. I have always worked and contributed to society by paying my taxes. When I divorced a few years ago I applied to the council to be rehoused. I have 3 young children and wanted to stay close by and give them a roof over their head so that they could stay with me every weekend. My earnings fall way short of buying a property and it's a real struggle to rent privately. I have never owned a property and shared council accomodation with my ex when we were married. I'm still waiting to be rehoused by the council, 5 years later, because according to them I do not have enough points. In my opinion these people do not deserve rehousing and quite frankly I could not care what happens to them aftwerwards so long as they are not making someone else's life a misery. -

We musn't have youths hanging out in East Dulwich. Let's banish them all to Peckham and Camberwell. -

I wouldn't imagine they are the only corporation who do not allow their staff to join unions. In actual fact, I think they would find it hard to discourage any member of staff joining a union if there was one to join. Jimmy Hoffa faced the same problem with the teamsters in the 30s and 40s. The docks and teamsters were all run by the Mob and anyone who tried to form a union was severely punished. However, Hoffa was tough and determined and he stuck with it, and gradually he recruited enough members to form a fledgling union and it grew from there. Maybe there's a Jimmy McHoffa out there who can galvanize the staff to form a union? -

There is absolutely nothing in the production of McDonalds food, that I am aware of, that stops me eating there. If there was then I wouldn't be eating there...and I am...with relish. -

You know I have never suffered food poisoning or even a mild tummy ache from eating McDonalds. However, I have been ill after eating in various restaurants and cafes over the years. No worries Asset, I don't take it personally. In fact, I agree with you about being amazed about the choices people make. It always amazes me how people who eat organic food then go and light a fag up after their meal. What's that all about? -

To be honest I never regret it. I run four times a week, swim, work out in a gym and do a martial art twice a week. If you work out hard enough you can burn it off anyway. The fatties that everyone associates with eating burgers probably don't even walk to their local chain. -

I don't know why people always follow the tired old cliche of calling them 'evil'. They're a fast food chain and I would rather buy my burgers there then in the fast food KFC style wannabees such as Dallas Chicken, Tennessee chicken et al. I think McDonalds actually offers excellent value for money. I bought a cheeseburger and fries the other day for ?1.78 and it really hit the spot. The reason why McDonalds is so succesful the world over is because a lot of people actually like it. If they didn't they wouldn't spend money in it. Pretty simple really. -

I'm very serious. I'm not a food snob and happily own up to 'loving it' with regards to MaccyD. I do eat healthily where I can, but if I was on death row and had to order my last meal it would be a Big Mac and fries. -
Iknow this is going to wind many people up, but I'd like to see a McDonalds open up in Lordship lane. I'm happy to admit that I love eating McDonalds, yet the nearest one is in Camberwell or Forest Hill.

What advice should I give to me teenage sons?
jimmy two times replied to charlie chuckles's topic in The Lounge
It's difficult to advise. I think it's always the right advice to tell people to stand up to bullies. Ultimately if you don't they can make your life a misery and many teenagers have committed suicide through bullying. So it's a question of weighing things up. I think ultimately your sons will have to stand up to this youth one way or the other if he continues to see them as a soft touch, but that doesn't mean they have to be violent. Perhaps they can tell him that they have a cousin or older friend who will sort him out? Maybe they could just tell him that you will come round and sort him out if he continues. I'm not suggesting that you do this as obviously he's still a kid and you may get yourself into trouble, but sometimes the threat of violence is all that's needed in these situations....and I know that's probably very un PC. -

jimmy two times replied to jimmy two times's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The problem with a metrosexual is that while he appeals to women on one level, i.e he'll do the washing up and watch a chick flick and cry.....surely deep down all women love a hunter gatherer. -

tramps on whateley road........

Maybe this could be turned into an East Dulwich tourist attraction? Guided safari style tours observing the local nutters on Whately road. Watching them in their natural habitat. Perhaps ann added lure would be to allow the tourists to feed them White stripe and Strongbow. -
Seeing as there has been some discussion of odd characters who frequent East Dulwich, does anyone know anything about the guy who works at Jags who seems to always be on carparking duties? I think he also stands by the astro turf pitch making sure everyone who uses it has booked. I sometimes think he's outside all the time because the other staff want him away from harms way. He can come across as rude, shouting at people and waving arms at them, but I'm not sure if he is rude or just mental....Or maybe both?
