  1. FYI children under 12 mos can't be vaccinated for chicken pox. -A
  2. Just posted this recommendation: http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?30,1037854 If the link doesn't work please just click on my user name. It will be the 2nd most recent post!
  3. Yes, yes, a vote in favour.
  4. I think it's a great idea. All of the decorations readily available are of the same sort of characters and themes. My son wanted green and Gruffalo for his birthday which was not available except online. I would have been very tempted to order from you, but yes price is always a factor!
  5. My son just started nursery at Dulwich Wood and FYI there is a "Time Out With Dad" session that meets every other Saturday from 10-12. Next one is this Sat, the 15th. Step Dads, Grandad's, Uncles etc. also welcome. Looks pretty good though my OH hasn't been yet: "During the sesions we have free play activities plus group activities. We have previously done activities such as cooking pancakes, making cards, and den making. Weather permitting we use the garden area as much as possible." If you haven't seen Dulwich Wood, it's an excellent facility and outdoor area. -A
  6. Signed and shared.
  7. Also bear in mind that child car seats should not go near air bags - so no side air bags. -A
  8. Amy is fantastic. Works from her home. http://www.thedulwichtouch.co.uk/
  9. Just read this and glad to hear all went well. I just wanted to comment with regard to Saffron's post to say that I'm sorry but I couldn't disagree more. I used to have a needle phobia that was CAUSED by being physically restrained to have an injection. Please remember that the issue with phobia's are about that person's ability to control the situation - not the ability of those around you to control it!
  10. Spent 2 hours waiting at the Peckham Rd walk in only to be sent to A&E and wait another 1.5 hrs. Drs at A&E did and said nothing different from the Drs at Pkhm walk in. What a complete waste of time! My 2 pence - don't bother and just go to A&E. Less of a wait there anyway!
  11. My son's 3rd birthday is coming up and we're wondering what bicycle folks recommend for this age. He's great on his scooter but didn't use his balance bike much. Tricycle? Go straight to bicycle, maybe with training wheels? What did you do and what brand would you recommend? Thanks, -A
  12. I had a similar experience to pickle. I think especially in the beginning when your let down is strong these just don't cut it, but they are OK later on when you aren't so leaky. I also found that they loose their tackiness rather quickly and after you take them off a few times they don't go back on very well untill after you wash them and start "fresh." That said, when I reported a problem with the tackiness their customer services was excellent and they sent me a free pair. Unfortunately, I find the same problems with the other pair they sent. I'd say they are good for if you need to wear something under which a nursing bra won't do, but they aren't good for daily use. I also have the bamboo ones from the Nappy Lady website. They are great in terms of absorbancy, but don't belive the hype - they are still breast pads and you will see them under a tight shirt. I don't believe any pad out there is invisible under a tight shirt!
  13. Thanks sparkle and theratprincess. Will stay tuned for classes . . . Pardon the pun.
  14. Another vote for mooncups! Also, I do exactly as Ramble66 does with regard to cleaning, but if you want to have something for emergency situations Lunapads sell Wysi Wipes: http://lunapads.com/divacup.html. Also - a plug for this Canadian based company. If I'm not using a mooncup, I'm using Lunapads.
  15. Maybe try going nude from the waist down whenever you're in the house? Don't know if this would work for others or my son is just peculiar - but when we started potty training in earnest he would ask to go if he was naked from the waist down but always wee in his trousers/underpants! For a while I would just whip off the nappy as soon as he got up and only dress him from the waist down if we were going out. Quite amusing to watch the reaction of people who ring your doorbell . . .
  16. Thanks Esme and Borderpaul. Hadn't heard of Lammas Green- will check it out!
  17. Thanks for the link - I've signed up too.
  18. Also - you probably don't do this, but just in case - don't give your child books to read in the car. Even though she can't technically "read" focusing on it may aggravate the car sickness.
  19. Bubbles! At 22 months they'll probably have trouble blowing them, but get a bubble machine. They LOVE bubbles!
  20. Mrs G - hate to wax lyrical about it, but do consider reading Baby Led Weaning by Gill Rapley. And ditto on all the above advice. Feed her what she likes and continue to offer her new things to try, but don't worry if she doesn't eat them. She's still getting all the nutrition she needs from her milk/formula feeds.
  21. I've had a look at the website above, but still not sure exactly what is the coulorstrings/kodaly method. Could someone please explain? I grew up on Suzuki, which I think it great for certain things, particularly bowing technique, but don't really think it's great for overall musicianship. I too would be interested in some group lessons for my 3 year old - but on a Mon or Fri afternoon. -A
  22. Thanks Otta and Nubby'smum. Getting there, commute, and getting childcare around the nursery hours are my other main considerations. Either way there is a big hill in one direction! I'm in agreement with you about Ofsted reports Otta. I think impression and atmosphere are the main deciding factors - but both left a good impression on me. Personally, I'm leaning toward Dulwich Wood as it seemed more spacious, had a more relaxed atmosphere when I visited, and you just can't beat their outdoor play area. There's always EB for primary . . .
  23. My son has been offered places at both of these nurseries and I am at a complete impasse on this decision. They both have pros and cons, the major ones being that Eliot Bank has a better Ofsted report and Dulwich Wood has an amazing outdoor area. Anyone out there with experiences of both of these places that can offer a comparison? They both look like great options to me. Thanks, -A
  24. I recommend Victoria - search for her thread "For a beautiful haircut in your home" by EDF Name "Victoria C." She gives a great cut, is reasonably priced, and very skillfully gave my son his first haircut when he was 2 while he was sitting on my lap.
  25. When my Mom quite smoking my Dad used to take us out for ice cream a lot! But we lived in suburbia and had a car and Carvel was open late . . . I recall the mood swings lasting about a month. Good luck and hang in there!
