A substantial sum of money - all the more welcome in these straitened financial times. And good to see you working so effectively with local parents. And for engaging directly with the EDF and the vocal section of the local community that it represents!

It's not a done deal yet. Here's a scenario for 2010, remembering 1992. Labour win the general election. Cameron resigns Tory leadership. Boris Johnson wins the subsequent party leadership election. Ken Livingstone wins the subsequent Mayor of London election. Tenable? Improbable, but I bet rarely a week goes by that Neil Kinnock doesn't turn his mind back to April 1992. Cameron could yet have his 1992 moment. The opinion polls and the press called it so wrong. I remember the realisation, as the Luton result was announced for the Tories, that we were in for another five years of John Major.

Yep, I can second that. We use them. They're great with kids.

Informed, rational, balanced, cogent. Refreshing to see such a coherent contribution to a clearly emotive discussion.
  6. Or so says art historian Dr Gus Casely-Hayford this evening in ?Where Is Modern Art Now??, a documentary on BBC Four looking at British Art in 2009. He was visiting Bold Tendencies III, this summer?s exhibition on the top floors of the multi-storey car park in Peckham. He was there for the opening ? some lovely shots of the views out over London from the top floor. Time Out Review of Bold Tendencies III
  7. That's terrible news. How bad was the damage? I love going to the Cafe on the Rye - it's a lovely cafe. Good food, relaxed atmosphere and a great place to meet friends. A real asset to the neighbourhood.
  8. It will be on iPlayer shortly: BBC 6pm News on iPlayer (13/10/2009) Doesn't look as though it's been made available just yet.
  9. The Forum has a lot of fascinating recollections and anecdotes about the history of East Dulwich. It would be great to see them all in one place.
  10. The mural is finished and ready for the unveiling. Well done Stan!
  11. Thought you might like to see some photographs of progress on remaking the Goose Green 'William Blake' Mural. Stan Peskett and his daughter Georgia, both established artists, have been working with students from Camberwell School of Art (Julie, Miles and Sara) and the children of St John's and St Clement's Primary School, to remake the mural that Stan originally painted fifteen years ago. Local painter Remi/Rough has also been collaborating with Stan, contributing his own marks and design to the original mural. Remi is a well know urban contemporary artist. The practicalities of remaking the mural have been organised by Niki Efstratiou in the Southwark Parks Department. The journalist, David Yuill, from the Southwark News, wrote a piece about the mural in last weeks Southwark News and was planning another article in this weeks paper with a timetable for events on the day of the unveiling. The official 'unveiling' will take place this Sunday, May 10th, at 1.30 pm as part of the Dulwich Festival activities on Goose Green. This will include some activities for children in the Goose Green playground from 1pm, with the 'unveiling' at 1.30pm. Do come along.

  13. Stan met with the Deputy Head of St John's and St Clement's school this morning, to discuss the involvement of the children in repainting the mural. The staff and the governors, as well the children, are keen that the school should be involved. The Governors met last night, discussed the mural and were enthusiastic, having apparently been made aware of the plans through updates on the EDF! Stan also met with Father Charles from St John's Church this morning. There seems to be an all round enthusiaasm for the project, and plans are falling into place. Stan said he would provide me with a more detailed update on the meeting this morning and on the next steps, and I'll post the notes on here when he does. PGC, say hello to him when you see him next. Very approachable, and a fund of fascinating stories about artists old and new.
  14. Nice idea, but not that one. I stuck my head round the door when I went passed earlier to ask. They said they were just named in honour of him - that he hadn't been a resident.
  15. A giant from another era. Turned down a peerage, lived in a council flat in Denmark Hill, and lived his twighlight years in a very nice care home in Peckham, according to his family, as reported in the Guardian. I wonder which care home?
  16. Union boss Jack Jones dies at 96 Sad to see him go. International Brigader, Trade Unionist, champion of the pensioners over the last two decades. And a local figure for many years. In January 1977 a Gallup opinion poll found that 54% of people believed that Jack was the most powerful person in Britain, - ahead of the Prime Minister.

  18. I've just been shown the notes from the Friends of Goose Green AGM that was held in the Goose Green Community Centre yesterday evening. A new design has been commisioned from Stan Peskett, the artist, on the same theme as the original mural. The plan is to involve local children in producing the mural, in the same way that they were involved in the original painting. The mural will be launched as part of the Dulwich Festival in May.
  19. Oh yes it was! Oh no it wasn't etc. Nothing like a bit of EDF panto. For the record, I liked it. I'm sure that those that didn't will accept that it's an aesthetic thing, that it's subjective. There should be an acknowlegement of genuinely held views by those that thought it looked okay. And for every detractor there's probably a supporter. I accept that my taste has already been called into question having painted my front door lilac on the advice of AllForNun, only to be admonished by Moos for not sticking with the correct ED shade of olive.
  20. Add HonB?s ingredients to a pan. Slowly stir in the Felicity Normal items. Season to taste with a pinch of Jah Lush and simmer until it?s stewed. Serve with a big dollop of the EDF, to add levity, insight, petulance and a touch of vitriol. And there you have it.
