  1. Please join the Friends of Ruskin Park at the launch of "John Ruskin Lived Here", an exhibition about John Ruskin and his associations with Herne Hill, curated by Lambeth Archives. The exhibition is part of John Ruskin at 200 - a free festival of events and ideas to mark the bicentenary of John Ruskin's birth, organised by the Friends of Ruskin Park. The evening will also feature poetry readings from workshops inspired by John Ruskin and the park. This event is free, but please let us know you're coming by booking here: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/exhibition-launch-and-celebration-john-ruskin-at-200-tickets-63074923795 Wednesday 3rd July 2019, 6.30pm - 8.30pm Carnegie Library 188 Herne Hill Road London SE24 0AG
  2. Can anyone recommend an easter holiday club for a relatively shy 5 year old boy? He's not into organised sport so much but obviously loves running around, lego, building things etc. It will be his first holiday club.
  3. I'm looking for a venue for private hire during the day, for a large party for about 75 adults and 30 kids. Must have a garden for the kids to run around in! Ideally this would be a pub or restaurant that can also sort out catering and booze Does anyone have any recommendations?
  4. We're vegetarian, and we go to: Mirash (decent Indan, at the top of LL) The Real Greek in Dulwich Village Olivetti Thai Corner Cafe Theo's Pizza in Camberwell Nanban in Brixton (AMAZING - not loads of vegetarian options but everything is delicious) None of these are vegetarian restaurants but they all have plenty on offer. Agree that Blue Brick is the best, but they're not always open in the evenings.
  5. Hi all - I am getting new blinds and curtains made for every room in my flat. Before I go and spend a fortune at John Lewis I was wondering if anyone has used a local firm they would recommend? thanks
  6. We're thinking of having a meal out on Xmas day instead of cooking for various reasons. Problem is, we are a family of vegetarians with young kids. Am I full of wishful thinking or might there be somewhere nearby that could cater for us?
  7. I am planning a surprise 40th birthday party for my better half. I was planning a picnic in Ruskin Park, but it looks like it's going to pour with rain. Can anyone recommend a place we can go as a last minute back up? There will be about 20 of us, plus a lot of toddlers, and my partner is coeliac (no gluten) and vegetarian. Are there any child friendly, coeliac/vegetarian friendly pubs or cafes with enough room to accommodate us on a Sunday????
  8. We used the St Paul's church hall next to Ruskin Park. Only thing is it's a consecrated building so they don't allow booze, but we didn't want any anyway.
  9. Does anyone have any experience of the nursery at Lyndhurst? I saw a sign about it outside the school but can't find any experience on the website. My son is 2.5 and I'd like him to go to nursery when he's 3. We are in the catchment area for the school, but don't know if this would make a difference re. the nursery.
  10. Those bouncy balls that light up when they are bounced Play foam (like playdoh, but made of tiny balls) Stickers
  11. Hi, I'm looking for desk space to rent close to Peckham Rye or Denmark Hill train stations. I am a writer and just need a small desk and somewhere to make phonecalls. thanks
  12. Can anyone recommend a man with a van (or possibly two men) to help move some stuff for us into storage next weekend?
  13. We used St Saviour's Church Hall on Herne Hill Road, which was lovely. Big, and opposite Ruskin Park. You are not allowed booze though (didn't bother us)
  14. Hi Mima08, I'd be interested in chatting about something similar ...
  15. Dulwich library has a sing along on Weds mornings - think it is 10.30 Also look here http://www.edtots.co.uk/directory/wednesday
  16. We are planning a two week holiday in the summer while we get some work done on our flat. Our son will have just turned 2, and is very active. His wonderful childminder takes him to loads of activities and he loves all the normal things - trains, fountains, soft play. We can't stay at home but don't know where else to go - we think he'd be bored with two weeks in a villa or a cottage, and we can't afford anything as extravagant as CentreParcs, as this will almost certainly be during the school holidays. We don't have a car but could hire one if necessary. Has anyone done anything similar, and can you recommend a holiday destination?
  17. thank you - that sounds great but I can't find it using a google search. There is suncamp.co.uk, but it doesn't look like they have any sites in the UK. Can you send a link?
  18. Thank you! What a great idea - I hadn't thought of air bnb!
  19. I think I have left it too late ... but I'm hoping to go away over the easter bank holiday weekend, or any time in the week 1 - 8th April (when our childminder is away). We have a 2 year old and would prefer to go somewhere within a couple of hours' drive of East Dulwich. Can anyone recommend somewhere? My dream would be a cottage by the sea, but really anything that is toddler friendly and a change of scenery would be great.
  20. What would you do on a Saturday afternoon with a one year old, within walking distance of Ruskin park, that was relatively weather proof?
  21. Hi there We are going to replace our kitchen - it's an awkward space so we need something (cheap and) bespoke. Can anyone recommend any local fitters? thanks
  22. Great! I think a train set sounds like a good idea then ... thanks everyone
