  1. I've used Frank very friendly and helpful 07956650744
  2. Any ideas on best blinds for French doors in a new loft bedroom? Am trying to find reasonably priced venetians or similar that sit on the actual frame..many thanks.
  3. A strong recommendation for Peckham-based SPD Property, currently doing a complete renovation of our house in East Dulwich, including a loft conversion and wraparound side return. Now well into a five/six month job I have to say we are very impressed. Sean Doyle heads up the team and instils complete confidence with his knowledge, practical approach and genuinely can-do attitude. Having spent over a year looking for the right builder and receiving quotes from some of the flashier, bigger firms around we realise now that the only thing that matters is a small, dedicated team that's committed to the job - and from what I've seen so far that's what you get with SPD. You can contact Sean on 07920 021718
  4. is it possible to book for this eve, or can we just turn up - about 7?
  5. Hi urbanfox - did you get a letter through the post telling you service would be down yesterday? I did and made alternative work arrangements (work from home) . Like you I thought it would be back on at 5pm but wasn't. I rang them - on hold for 20 mins then spoke to someone who was unaware of the planned maintenance that was going on - said it would be back on at 3.40 am - and it is on again now. Did you mean 4am or pm in your message? The thing with the way they run these downtimes is that they are so erratic that you're never sure when you'll get a consistent service. I find them just unbearable to deal with - have had engineers in about ten times since moving to ED a year and a half ago. I'd move supplier if it didn't mean loss of service for a few weeks in the interim and when it comes down to it I reckon they re all much of muchness
  6. Have been reading this thread and wondered what people though of a loft height of 2.08m - we've been told that's our max and I am reluctant to go ahead and spend the money if we end up with a room that feels really hemmed in and cramped. If you have had one done where the height was the same or lower, I would really appreciate hearing what you think many thanks
  7. any suggestions for someone to do plans for a loft conversion and smallish kitchen extension greatly appreciated
  8. we tried last night and were told the same thing - they were empty at the front but the manager said people has booked. I've no reason to think he wasn't telling the truth..why on earth would a new business turn custom away? looks fantastic inside so will know to book next time.
  9. they do a fantastic range of oils and sauces, and the food is great - all made by their Basque chef apparently. It is pricey though and I can't work out why the in prices are almost double the take out prices
  10. So, we've been mulling over getting the loft and side return 'done' and have had several companies in to quote. We're now thinking the best approach would be to get our own designer/architect to draw up detailed plans and then present these to the companies to quote on - rather than just being led by the companies we ask to quote. Any recommendations then, for architects or designers or experiences to share? Many thanks
  11. I'm guessing two schools would result in a lot more disruption on surrounding streets...has any thought been given to that?
  12. leave. I signed up with them year ago and stayed less than a month. Can't believe they are still behaving like that
  13. We have had 2 or 3 quotes for a loft conversion and these guys seem the best. Anyone used them at all? They seem very organised but we are just a bit nervous about using a huge company in case the work just gets farmed out to a whole lot of sub contractors and we lose control of the project.. Thanks
  14. just to add some positive feedback. called Darren this morning when rain started coming through rear loft roof. although a bank holiday, darren came around immediately, quickly identified the problem, replacing broken tiles and mending flashing. Of course it remains to be seen if the leak has been fixed but for now I am pretty impressed by Darren's prompt attention and clear explanations of what was wrong.
  15. 175 sounds over the top. we have had a few quotes for the same thing and reckon about 110 is a more realistic figure - but obviously each case/house is different and will throw up different issues. also we are only looking for a one bed/bath in the loft In the end we have decided not to do the side return - it's just too much cash for what you get and with the market a bit shaky there's a strong possibility you'd never see the money back. just my thoughts. good luck
  16. Just to add that we used Frank a couple of weeks ago to move bunk beds. He responded at short notice - on a Sunday morning - turned up when he said he would and was really helpful. I wouldn't hesitate to ask him for help again or to recommend him.
  17. we are just getting quotes for a loft and wondered if anyone had up to date recommendations. We have had 2 quotes and the difference in price is 12k so it's difficult to know who to go with - a small, local company (expensive) or larger, cheaper firm. Any pointers greatly appreciated.
  18. I'd like to echo all that has been said here about Saied. He has just finished laying a new lawn for me in East Dulwich after I was badly let down by another company that also appears regularly here. Saied was just fantastic: informative, communicative, patient and really hardworking. The job ended up being a lot trickier than expected: the garden was hiding a tonne of rubble and pretty horrendous roots. Saied cleared everything without complaint. When it came to laying the turf, he was a perfectionist. I have used a lot of workmen and women since buying my house here last year. I haven't yet encountered someone who just seemed so good at what they do, with the readiness to answer all my questions and help me make decisions. In summary - just brilliant at his job.
  19. Having been badly let down by a forum - recommended landscaper I now need to find someone else to lay a new lawn in East Duwich. Any recommendations appreciated greatly Andrew
  20. Moved to Melbourne grove a few months ago, thought..great..a nice surgery on the road...hmm.. 1 appt was enough to convince me to look elsewhere. The place is a nightmare
  21. Hi there , do you still have a desk for rent..I live in east dulwich and work at home but am having work done on house off and on over next few months. First slot would be for 8 days or so at end of feb Let me know, thanks Andrew
  22. So I work from home and need to find a quiet spot with good wifi for a week or so while we get work done to the house. Does anyone know of hot desks or similar that can be rented by the day or week? Thanks
