  1. Seems like some fairly sensible improvements. I'll be objecting to the widening of the junction mouth with Lordship Lane. It's a shame they aren't prepared to close it entirely as a through route for motor traffic. But otherwise supportive.
  2. There's a very simple solution to this problem. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ihlnrz-8rxU/U_d2P1nfjCI/AAAAAAAACLc/hBqkl3oAlcg/s1600/Bromell's%2BRoad.jpg
  3. If it is within 10 metres of the junction then it is parked illegally under Rule 243 of The Highway Code. A rule, like most motoring regulations, that is regularly flouted and completely ignored by the authorities. So our White Van Man has nothing to fear.
  4. Good for them - I remember when it was only one tiny little place in Brixton Market. They've done extremely well for themselves.
  5. Thames Water's website says Spring 2015 completion. http://www.thameswater.co.uk/about-us/17873.htm?shorturl
  6. How will we know if it's a protest or business as usual?
  7. Sorry to hear that. Had one of mine knicked from Oval last week. Have a look here http://www.bikeshd.co.uk/ and if you have time Nine Elms and Brick Lane markets are always teeming with stolen bikes.
  8. What a mess. I won't be using any of the cycle specific infrastructure that is being put in and the new design won't encourage anyone to start using their bike through there who doesn't already. Complete failure from a cycling perspective.
  9. Certainly not something you expect to see in broad daylight in E Dulwich!
  10. This is probably as good a repudiation of the 'helmet compulsion' argument as I have seen http://aseasyasridingabike.wordpress.com/2014/11/04/headways-brick-wall/ I don't wear a helmet on my daily commute but do on my weekend club rides. My choice, should remain that way.
  11. This happened right infront of me. Have given statement to the Police. Probably not prudent to say much more but the victim was badly injured but will survive.
  12. Cycling is not disproportionately dangerous as the OP suggests. It is a remarkably pleasant and safe way to get about. Especially a congested place like London. Yes, people on bikes should take reasonable steps to ensure their safety and that of those around them. As should people in cars. We're all just trying to get somewhere folks.
  13. Wow, disturbing - Are there any particular roads where you are planning your reign of terror? Just so I know to avoid them on my fixed gear bike with the shortened handlebars... and my silly grin because I was daft enough to choose an enjoyable mode of transport...
  14. Wouldn't be able to commit regularly but would definitely be up for the odd game. There is a regular social game run by someone over on Sydenham Town Forum. That one is on astroturf down near Beckenham.
  15. Not a formal club or anything but I tend to go out with a pretty loose crowd of not entirely committed people on evenings and weekends. Usually c. 20-30 miles. Basically just an excuse to find a nice pub or cafe. Feel free to DM me and we'll get you out on our next run. Only condition is you're not allowed to wave at the Paragon when they waft by.

Most recumbents have the light mounting on the headrest which is about the same height as a light on the seatpost of an upright bike. So, I think the issue was more the rubbish lights than the type of bike. Which is pretty bloody dumb really. Wear whatever you want, but don't cheap out on the lights people.

I'm confused why you couldn't see it. Did it not have any lights?
  18. Etherow St is often quite uncomfortable. If you're unfortunate enough to be going down the contraflow just as one of the empty buses comes round the corner. Not pleasant.

She has proven herself to be lethally incompetent in charge of a motor vehicle. She should never be allowed to be in charge of one again.
  20. Certainly no excuses for lack of effective lights, well done for not killing him. Lack of day-glo clothing much less of an issue.

They are being killed by negligent road design and bad driving (and, yes, possibly sometimes bad cycling). Although, I think the addition of "of cyclists" isn't really helpful. The protest was also about pedestrians and public space more broadly. "Stop The Killing" should be enough.
