According to Councillor Leeming, on my doorstep, only evidence is of perceived crime.

This will mean that all the teachers from Alleyns and JAGS will no longer be able to park on Carlton Ave, Townley, Gilkes etc. They will still drive in each day and just end up parked on someone else's street instead.

"But never mind, cutting one's journey time by ten minutes is much more important 🙄" How about increasing everyone's journey time by that and more, which the LTN's and bus gates have done. This causes even more pollution.

According to Southwark Council consultation report from 2023 it is a protected view:- "The view of St Pauls Cathedral from Nunhead Cemetery is a protected view within the Southwark Plan and this is acknowledged within the CMP. The CMP contains an ‘action plan’, which states that the view should continue to be maintained within the cemetery by cutting back tree growth. Some residents were concerned that this was not happening regularly enough to retain this view. Unfortunately, the regularity of maintenance is limited by our maintenance budget. Should visitors notice that the view has become obscured, it would be helpful if they could inform council staff."

I thought it was a protected view too, perhaps the building isn't going to be any taller than at present?

Yes, and proof of identity. I have been told twice now that they are not allowed to hand over parcel without it and would get the sack if they did. My Mum was asked for proof of age and she is 86!

Had the same recently too, they needed Photo ID, passport or Driving Licence for a pack of razors.

Yes that's right, it affects all Southwark Residents, the effects of CPZ's are not contained in one small area. They are trying to get a CPZ IN Nunhead and other lpaces too.

I imagine Nigello is talking about parked cars on Court Lane not ones on the road! This thread is about the consultation for CPZ in Dulwich Village. No, wealthy people can send their kids to any school they like. State schools only accept kids in their immediate area. The problem I have is that 1,350 children are being coached in and out everday in term time, and most, if not all, do not live in the Borough of Southwark and therefore their parents do not contribute one penny or have any interest whatsoever in Southwark. In the meantime the schools facilities are expanding at such a rate that Alleyns and JAGS have built all over their car parks and so their staff and visitors, who also mostly don't live in Southwark, all park on surrounding roads i.e. Calton Ave. The coaches then cause congestion by leaving engines running in winter and air conditioning in summer, which Southwark Council never seem to tackle. Each day the coaches arrive back around 1 p.m. taking up a huge number of parking spaces and as far as I know again don't pay a penny to Southwark. As a result, Southwark residents have no places to park and Southwark Council want to put in a CPZ to charge them on top of their Council Tax.

Clearly Calton Ave and Gilkes Crescent residents do think it's a problem judging by the amount of yellow dots on the map. whether interactive or not. Given the chance of course they want to empty their streets of cars, just like Court Lane did. Remember they mostly have big drives so they won't have to fork out for permits for their cars or visitors cars and all the parking will be displaced elsewhere.

According to Southwark's Evidence in the latest Streets for People, local residents in Calton Ave and Gilkes and others have asked Southwark Council to introduce a CPZ. Regardless of their drives they want their streets emptied of all the parked cars which for the most part belong to staff and visitors of Alleyns and JAGS. If they get the CPZ's introduced all that traffic and parking ends up on someone else's street, most likely where the less well off live!

That's right, the children bussed in on coaches everday are not local. They are currently transporting 1,350 pupils daily. Also bear in mind they contribute nothing to the local economy as they never leave the school premises!

It doesn't affect me, I have no car and I don't drive. I don't think CPZ's or LTN's work, they just make traffic/parking someone else's problem, and in Southwark that means the less fortunate.

The reason the roads coded red have so many parked cars, is due to the private schools, JAGS and Alleyns. Carlton Avenue in term time is bumper to bumper from top to bottom. East Dulwich Grove and Townley Road is full of coaches and cars each day from around 1 p.m. onwards. Likewise Gilkes Crescent, Dulwich Village and Turney Road have people parking to shop, (it is a High Street after all) and accommodate staff and visitors to the Village schools. The schools have only a handful of parking spaces, so no parking for staff or visitors. Therefore they all park on surrounding streets. Why should Southwark residents have to pay to park just to stop the school staff turning their roads into car parks. Do Southwark Council receive any payment from the school coach companies for parking?

The house nearest the school has been owned by JAGS for years and the previous Head and her family lived in it. The other house was owned by Tony who used to have the small newspaper kiosk near Kings College Hospital. When he died JAGS purchased it at well over market price, I am guessing because they had the new build in mind, and it has remained empty ever since. It would have been nice if they could have remained residential, they are great Mid-century family homes.
