  1. Hi James Is there any possibility you could arrange for the car that is blocking the path outside the petrol station on east Dulwich road to be removed? As it is all taped off you have to walk in the forecourt or In The road to get past it. I first saw it Sunday morning and am surprised it is allowed to be left there. It must be pretty unsettling for the small children who walk past on their way to St. John's or goose green school. My teen who saw it for the first time tonight was speculating about what had happened and given how smashed in, it is, it does give the impression of being involved in a violent incident. Looks like it generated enough speculation on here with adults!
  2. Thank you James for reporting that the inquest has finally taken place. How that poor family, driver and witnesses have coped with the awfulness of the situation I really can't imagine. James I wonder if you can explain why it has taken 2.5 years to get to the conclusion of the inquest. I know many people at the time felt very strongly about the role the protracted roadworks played in the accident and although its no comfort for the family I hope lessons can be learnt from the way the roadworks and pedestrian safety were managed. Given this I don't understand why this has taken such a long time and feel the messages about missed opportunities should have been relayed sooner. Do you get a sense that Southwark will use the verdict to look at how they respond to roadworks at such major junctions? Particularly in regards monitoring progress of work and ensuring adequate safety mechanisms are in place? I do know you care deeply about this matter and remember at the time a conversation we had about the incident and I am pleased you have continued to take an interest in this matter. I will of course look at the link you have provided but hope you as a local councillor will also continue to get Our own local authority to look closely at how they can provide additional safeguards when lights are out of action!
  3. Although the cars were managing quite well when I was trying to cross as a pedestrian around 430 it was really rather scary! Especially worrying given the amount of young children/ teenagers who were also struggling to work out a safe point to cross. This is a very dangerous junction as a pedestrian.
  4. A white and black cat has been in our garden (on Waveny Avenue) on and off for about two weeks, doesn't look like a stray. No collar and little mark on his nose. Just wondering if this is a lost cat, if so please PM. Thanks So sorry thought I was on lost and found - not sure how to remove post
  5. He sounds awful the only horrific bit of what has been a fantastic show
  6. Also just to let you know the police have been and searched gardens i n my street . Lovely police officer who said they were searching gardens in a 2 mile radius in case he has tried to take shelter in shed etc. She seemed very through I hope it gives the family some comfort to know that this may help alert people who don't read forum or haven't seen posters
  7. I have posted on project london fitness to see if they would be willing to relay info.to their fitness folk who meet on the Rye on Saturday mornings. If anyone is able to work out how to quote this thread on that thread ( its in the events section). I am trying to work it out but on a phone so not entirely easy to type let alone be more technical. I also wondered if it was worth asking someone to approach St Johns church about possibility of someone handing out leaflets/ putting up a flyer at their summer fayre which is being held tomorrow. I am not around tomorrow so couldn't volunteer to do it myself. I know Patrick attended another church but suspect you will get a good turnout from local community.
  8. Hi project london fitness. I am wondering if you are aware that there is an elderly man missing from the Nunhead area. He has been missing from 7 th June. Dulwich runners have been approached to ask them to look out for him . I wonder if you could help by asking those who attend your sessions to have a look too. I haven't worked out how to quote or link threads on this forum using my phone so can't show you the page but if you look in the general east dulwich issues section it is the first topic on the list. Thank you

  10. I am happy to put this info on.my facebook page - lots of family in.Ireland who could also repost it but not quite worked out how. Is there a spefic appeal page o. Facebook already?
  11. Sorry to hear it. There was a book I found really helpful with.my daughter when her grandad died. She was 4 but if I recall right I think it was also suitable for younger children. It's called Badgers parting gifts. Its the story of a badger coming to the end of his life and his friends whilst sad recall all the lovely times they spent with him. It has always been widely available but might be worth just flicking through it before you buy it just to make sure its age appropriate . Also if you do buy it read it through yourself a couple of times - I wept quite a lot after reading it - which although a realease for me I was pleased my daughter wasn't there as wouldn't have been able to read some of it aloud .
  12. I agree it is really frustratingly bad. My daughter has to use it for school and has to allow at least an hour to do what should be a 20 minute journey max! Also if she does an afterschool activity she reguarly has to wait 45 minutes or more just to get on the bus. Given how dark it is now I hate knowing she has to do it. The biggest problem does seem to be the busses are so full at peak times that the even if a bus arrives often 3 go by before a driver will even stop. They eally need to increase frequency during peak times!
  13. Got to agree with BB100 the audition stage at Aske's was a bit of a shock for my daughter. The liteature did not mention there could be 5 people sitting on the panel. She felt as she walked in there was a sense of them being really unfriendly- one yawned as she walked into the room and another frowned from begining to end. My daughter felt ridicoulously nervous and knew straight away she had blown it as she heard her voice wobble all over the place. She cried the whole way home as she felt she had let herself down. This was in marked contrast to the audition process at another school where there were 2 membes of staff who attempted to put her at ease and she felt relaxed and did well-( and was later offered a music place).Even if she hadn't been offered it she had come away from the experience feeling she had done all she could and was quite bouyed up by the experience. I do wonder if having a panel like the one at Aske's does mean that children with limited musical experience/lessons/performance experience, like my daughter, would have found it difficult and this may be why many children who are offered a scholorship at Aske's have more expereince. I think at the very least they could have let parents know how big the panel was so they could prepare their child !
  14. Thank you all for your comments. Huguenot I would normally agree totally with what you are saying about not banning it and certainly can't ban the internet itself as it is so helpful in so many ways... but... given how difficult it has been trying to get some sense from MSN/hotmail. A week later a really quite nasty comment is still on view for all their friends to see, makes me reluctant to allow my daughter to use it as all you want to know is if there is a problem it can be sorted! When my daughter said that particular lad was always like that at school and was always getting into bother , must admit there was a pretty hefty lecture about friendship and quality of friends being more important than quantity! I really dont want the lad involved to get into serious trouble as I know life is really not good for him in so many ways ( lots of pretty serious issues at home!), but a warning about his behaviour and the offending message being removed would be great! Bit like what happens on here:)) Ianr thanks for offer but had one more go at emailing them latest set of responses but may well come back to you re screen shot.... normally not to bad on computers but this had stumped me! The security issue and how much info is available at a click of a button is fairly mind blowing ! Sue loved your comments "Oh well, I have nothing to hide whatsoever - my fondness for barking is common knowledge since I do it in public (and teach it to small children) ETA: I like confusing dogs (much as I love them") Love the idea that you are teaching this to small children... is this the next step on from ballet lessons and monkey music!
  15. Anyone had any experience of successfully managing to get a proper response from MSN/hotmail when trying to report verbally abusive content. Over a week ago I was checking my daughters msn/hotmail page and spotted that someone fom her last school, had made some really awful comments to one of her close friends. As well as using really nasty language he had also wished some pretty awful stuff on her. Unfortunately I dont have any contact with the parents of the boy who made the comments or else i would have spoken to them about it, but I was able to tell the parents of the girl who the comments were made about. They arent very technological and struggled to report the comment so have since deleted the service from their computer. I agreed to report the comment in the hope that it could be removed so no-one else would see it but i now seem to be stuck in hell. every day fo a week there has been a new email from microsoft customer support. Each email seems to be asking for some of the same infomation like the URL - which i have now given 5 times along with a new request each day without the sense we are any further forward now been asked to do a sceen shot - dont know how to do it tried suggestions on google without success. Also been asked to say the time posted but it only says the date not the time. Grrrrrr It does worry me how difficult this process has been- any suggestions ? any orgainisations who might be able to give parents tips on how to manage this. How on earth is a young person supposed to do this? I am probably going to ban my daughter from using this for the foseeable future at least but I was reluctant to delete her account until i had provided all the necessary info-
  16. To my lo several years back though the horror hasnt faded....."Yes you are absolutley right that poo does look exactly like a snail"
  17. Poor you Louloulabelle. I remember how my daughter looked when she had the chickenpox. Having had 30 spots on her forehead alone I remember looking at her one night and thinking she looked like she had some sort of medevil plague. I can understand why some misinformed people do get anxious about the look of it but my daughter did find people staring at her very upsetting.I found a bit of bio oil a baseball cap and long sleeves seemed to do the trick. Although the scabs are sometimes nasty it did seem to fade really quickly once the blisters had burst.

Yes huggers you are right it was a pull the other one event! Yet another reason why I love pull the other one ! Kidkruger I agree the majority of people out there are good and honest and being an optimistic sort of person I was so happy to be able to post something positive !
  20. I lost my purse on Friday evening at the half moon at Herne Hill. I didnt really expect to see it again but some kind wonderful person handed it in to the bar. All my cards were still there and the money untouched. Most importantly a precious note written by my little girl was in the purse. The person who found it didn't leave their name so I have no way of thanking them personally so fingers crossed they are on the Forum. Thanks When there are so many scary stories on this forum about burglaries/muggings etc it is great to know there are still many honest people out there!
  21. My ex always used to make me promise if he died I would play the Pixies this monkey's gone to heaven. I used to get very giggly at the look on my dad's face if it ever was necessary as he would expect a nice hymn !
  22. The falcon ended up in the bushes near the cafe and was tracked down by some rather weird looking equipment. They Managed to coax it down all in the middle of note-orious's performance
  23. I hate to get involved in this one but the original poster is correct- they were on a stall. The stall was on left hand side if facing the playground and they were selling other "vintage" style ( is made to look vintage rather than original items). I can not say if they were on sale or just being used as props as I didn't look too closely
  24. Thanks kk I saw the padlock and just turned around didn't think to actually try despite the padlocks presence oops oh well it meant that I got a bit more well needed exercise. Though feeling a little foolish now !
  25. I was trying to walk to Crytal Palace from east dulwich today using the green chain route and found the gate at Camberwell old cemetary ( junction of Langton Rise and Wood Vale Closed. As it was only 2.30 I assume it hadnt been open all day is this usual?
