  1. I guess they must! My Christmas shopping starts about three months from now.
  2. Don't... I deliberately avoided the cake aisle in DKH Sainsbury's at the weekend just in case there were mince pies already. I've still got two panforte from last Christmas to eat up.
  3. Good one - like the shift from white to red wine.
  4. I'm sitting in my kitchen wearing a fleece, hugging a cup of tea, eating speculoos crunchy spread* off a spoon waiting for the downpour to stop. In early September. *Don't try this if you're trying to lose weight as it's more addictive than anything I can remember.

They advised me on a couple of occasions that it would mean risking not receiving mailings from the council about benefits and the electoral role, which might leave you liable to a fine or losing your vote. Blackmail, really.
  6. I've recently fallen in love with the Badger Bakery. Seriously, I may never have to do a food shop again.

Haven't been that way today but it was still there on Saturday afternoon.
  8. If you can smash them up you could offer them free for gardeners to use for drainage.

  10. I haven't got as far as putting thin clothes away (never say die, at least till the clocks go back) but I've got socks and DMs on without getting a hot flush.
  11. Perhaps the ultimate futility of shoving crap through doors is mitigated by a final salary pension scheme and having your afternoons free.
  12. And you can't face leaving the house after 7 because it's already getting darker.
  13. You have to put the heating on, not because it's cold but to get the washing dry. You wear tights to work because bare legs suddenly look funny. You get an urge to buy root vegetables and make soup. Anyone else?
  14. For several years I had a no junk mail sticker, which the PO used to provide, but it seems they realised that didn't fit with them being the main perpetrators and they stopped doing the stickers - in fact the postman kindly ripped mine off the door. As I do all the important stuff online or by email these days, that means most of what comes through the door is junk and the majority of that is enabled by the post office.
  15. There's enough to base a party game on - give everyone a load of dog poo bags (free from the library) and the person who picks up most gets a prize. Maybe not for children.
  16. Yes, AJ Farmers - that and Dulwich DIY are the shops that really make you feel like you're living in a proper community. Is ED Dry Cleaners the one by the Post Office?
  17. This website may help: http://www.wildlondon.org.uk/reserves/sydenham-hill-wood-and-coxs-walk People quite often seem to hold children's parties there. Near(ish) to the Sydenham Hill Station entrance there's a large clearing with a bench that I've seen people use or at the Cox's Walk entrance it's also fairly open. At each entrance there's a map showing the paths and a number of interesting things and wildlife to look out for. You'd need either good weather or waterproofs as there are no shelters once you're inside. Only downside is poor access for wheelchairs and pushchairs, and you can't take bikes or scooters in.
  18. Spot on, RH. Also the diagram doesn't appear to be to scale as the junction is less offset in reality and the main road wider. All the junction needs to make it safer for cyclists and pedestrians is for the traffic lights to give cyclists a short head start from the Calton Ave / Turney Rd sides and for all pedestrians to cross simultaneously (until now this happened in theory but the right turn from DV into Calton Ave meant the green man came on at different times), including diagonally. Basically as for the JAGS junction - which didn't take six months to do, either.
  19. An abandoned, presumably stolen, moped has been lying like a slowly rotting carcass for about three weeks at the junction of Greendale and the path to Sainsbury's. I'm sure multiple people will have reported it and I think this illustrates the attitude of the council and police. It would be great if more people can get behind this effort. MP, give me a shout if you want a hand delivering flyers to local residents.
  20. Thanks. That explains all the sirens earlier.
  21. Also the people who run the Red Apple newsagent opposite the library. It genuinely feels part of the community.
  22. The people who run the library and have to put up with more than their share of rudeness, antisocial behaviour and ingratitude for their efforts keeping this fantastic community resource going.
  23. You're not alone, Sue. After glaring at a man who kept looking at me in Sainsbury's the other day I realised he's been living next door to me for two years.
  24. Earlier I walked past and they were using angle grinder on the pavement outside the school - no screens up so huge amounts of dust on a windy day blowing into the school grounds and impossible for passers-by to avoid breathing in.
  25. Thank you for taking the initiative to do something about this. It's definitely time for some action. I'll try to attend if I can.
