I have irrational rage), but 'intolerant' is the > sin du jour, I suppose. 'Seems' = my perception. From memory it was a quiet day for me though.
  2. Can't say I've ever heard ED referred to as the poor part of anything, even twenty years ago.
  3. Signed. Reminds me of one of the first rules of business: don't outsource core activities...
  4. Appalling location for a care home, equally the elderly or otherwise vulnerable people who might be housed in the almshouses - horribly busy junction, noise, accident hotspot, pollution, little in easy walking distance etc. There has been an inn on that site for over two hundred years apparently. The eponymous Mr Cox who cut Cox's walk to link to Sydenham Wells owned it in the late 1700s. How about a bar/club? Need a dance venue around here.
  5. Thought that was another pizza thing; must be cycling past too quickly. Will have a look.
  6. Gaynor, send us all a PM saying which shop it is and we'll go in and say how much lovelier their shop would be if they had a mature and experienced assistant in the full flower of life etc.
  7. No risk of it meaning ?1 off the Deliveroo boss's profits, then. That's why I can't use them or buy clothes from Primark for that matter - at those prices you know someone's being exploited. Why didn't I know about wood-fired chicken at Franklin's? Can you buy a whole one to take home?
  8. As I get older I can't help noticing a lot of ageism going on. I don't mean any of the comments above, but that underlying, unspoken commercial assumption that everything - entertainment, fashion, even financial services - has to be for younger people first. There was a point in the early noughties when you couldn't go to any kind of event without it having DJs. My social life revolves around cafes these days.

Also illegal!
  10. Are they sending in HTM because it's online content ie so you can view it offline? If so they'd need to send you it the complete web page or PDF it.
  11. Use a piece of loo paper to open the door and chuck it into the loo as the door swings shut behind you. Or use your sleeve.
  12. Thanks for all those. I'm sorted for this time now but will have a look at them for future jobs.
  13. Heel (it's a knitting thing)
  14. They're definitely not supposed to ask your age, though realistically if they have a prejudice about that they'll give you another reason if you ask. On the other hand they might just be disorganised. Would it be worth dropping in and giving them a printed copy of your CV?
  15. Can anyone recommend a printers? Have been let down on a job and need to find a new supplier. Doesn't need to be local to ED hence put it in this section. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
  16. I use a filter jug, partly for the tea and partly for the sake of the kettle. I too have family in Suffolk and find the water there grates a bit, so here it must be softer, though when I lived in a proper soft-water area in Cumbria it took some getting used to, particularly washing your face and hair as there was never that squeaky-clean feeling, which to me felt like the soap hadn't rinsed off. Birmingham has lovely water, comes off the Welsh hills apparently. Comes out a bit brown sometimes though.
  17. If it is, I believe the owners have a duty to stop it spreading onto anyone else's land, which must mean you can refer it to the council if they refuse or are negligent.
