  1. Glad to hear no one was hurt. All best wishes to the staff involved and I'm sure M&S will make sure they're supported.
  2. The cycle lane on the Calton Ave side seems very narrow and with little protection, and with Court Lane now giving way to Calton Ave it doesn't seem like a big improvement. And turning right from Turney Road on a bike now seems more dangerous as you can't use the cycle lane for that. I also find the camber on the raised area at the end of Court Lane dangerous on a bike as with the now tighter left turn it throws you out into the traffic.
  3. Just received another box of chocolates with alcohol in! That's three so far.
  4. Hold your horses, there. This is just a lull, a brief respite of two weeks over Christmas before they block Court Lane for another five weeks (if they'd done any research at all they'd know this is the two weeks of the year where traffic is at its lightest due to the locals being in Cornwall or Meribel). Work is due - that's 'due' - to finish end of Feb.
  5. I'm more perpetrator than victim, particularly with things I've knitted. The presents I pass on most often are chocolates with alcohol in.
  6. Thanks. A couple of people have suggested Brixton Soup Kitchen so will give them a call.
  7. What happened, and whereabouts? Hope you're not hurt.
  8. Thanks, but it looks like ongoing volunteering rather than over Christmas so will keep looking.
  9. Does anyone know of local organisations that need volunteers? The one I used to help is no longer operating. Thanks for any suggestions.
  10. St Barnabas has taken a step forward on the gender front, with parts in carols labelled 'upper voices' and 'lower voices'. As a bit of a Dame Hilda Bracket, I've always felt conspicuous singing with the men before - never stopped me, but nice to feel included. Edited to correct autocorrect.
  11. 6.30 tonight at St Barnabas on Carlton Ave.
  12. What was the good news? Do share.
  13. Silicone egg-poaching cups. OMG, interrupting this to say I just saw a man blow his nose out of the door of the bus, using fingers only, while the bus was at a stop. How disgusting.
  14. rahrahrah Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > For someone struggling to make ends meet, getting > an ?80 could really tip them over the edge... just > for dropping a chip. It's ridiculous. Then the lesson is, don't drop it! There's a choice in there.
  15. It's not unreasonable and I think it's great if they're trying to improve the way people treat that stretch of road, which is a magnet for antisocial behaviour. It would be great if they could do more about the number of people who blatantly avoid paying to use the tube, though.
  16. Sounds like mildew. Wipe with a hot, bleachy cloth or use an old toothbrush dipped in bleach for the hard-to-reach bits, then wipe over to remove residue and allow to dry. To stop it building up in future, wipe condensation off windows and frames each morning and allow air to circulate (keep a window open a crack and don't put stuff up against the window). If it's for odd angles or high up, Farmers has a gel that comes with a brush attached that's pretty good.
  17. Perhaps they're not aware it's happening regularly and how disruptive you find it if it's out of school hours? You could call them on Monday to let them know and tell them you're going to start calling Southwark's noise team and the police if it keeps happening.
  18. Six feet. I guess it's only to be expected that you'll see them wherever people store or discard food - one of the reasons why the authorities aren't keen on you feeding bread to the ducks. Food recycling bins must be a big temptation to them. A while back I had to speak to the people at the Dulwich Pavilion cafe as the bins out the back were crawling with them even in daytime.
  19. Perhaps try the local police? They should have an emergency contact or know what to do. Number is 0208 721 2446.
  20. The place where they were was on Gilkes Crescent.
  21. If you find out anything please do pass it on, Simon. Having investigated further it seems for me it's fairly low-risk, mainly junk phone calls and texts, but I've raised a complaint with them as that seems the only alternative way to get clarification.
  22. Because it's very recent and they were responsible for a number of crimes while they were there: breaking and entering, trespass, damage to property, dumping of industrial waste and theft being the main ones, as far as I'm aware.
  23. Perhaps some link with the travellers who were camped close by last week?
