  1. Hi James Quietways work on the junction of Dulwich Village and Calton Ave is due to start in a week's time. According to the works schedule handed out to residents in the area they are scheduled to take an unbelievable six and a half months - assuming they finish on time - with multiway lights and some road closures from early Nov to Christmas. And that appears to be just for this small section of the Quietway. This seems astonishingly slow. The junction is very busy and aggressive ay peak times and given the concentration of schools, and parents and coaches driving children to them, I fear this will cause massive stress and disruption in this area, as well as to local businesses. Can anything be done to speed it up? Not sure this is on your patch but Village ward councillors only seem visible at election time. Thanks.
  2. Especially in knickers. Annoying hole in my new ones.
  3. Grief moves at its own pace so give yourself plenty of time. If you're finding it difficult to contact one of the organisations that have already been suggested, perhaps you'd like to try Bereavement UK's online forum or Facebook page, where you can get support from people who will understand what you're going through. http://www.bereavementuk.co.uk/
  4. How are you feeling today, Natty? Hope things are a little easier and you're managing to take care of yourself.
  5. Female Trek hybrid, bronze, with child seat and what looks like a child's yellow waterproof. Seen at top of Cox's walk propped against but not locked to fence so could be lost or stolen.
  6. A drop of caramel fell off my magnum down the inside of my shoe. I only realised when my foot started to stick to it. Turns out one small drop goes further than you think.
  7. At the theatre the security guard was checking the contents of my bag thoroughly (middle-aged women being a suspect demographic). She suddenly stopped, gave me a funny look, pointed at the bottom of the bag and said, 'What's that?' I'd forgotten the large courgette wrapped in a plastic bag. Mortified.
  8. Dulwich Woods was particularly nasty with it on Saturday. Some owners seem to think if they take no notice of the dog then it's not their fault because they didn't see it happen.
  9. Hi Natty - I saw this website about bereavement counselling for people in Southwark and wondered if it might be worth trying? It says you can refer yourself (call or use their online form) or ask your GP to refer you. https://www.southwarkcarers.org.uk/enabling/counselling-service/bereavement-counselling/
  10. From your other recent posts it sounds like you're feeling vulnerable at the moment so best to take it slowly and get to know people, perhaps through a shared activity. Have you thought about signing up for some local classes or sports, starting with the What's On section? There's a community exercise group that meets at the cafe on P Rye each Saturday at 10.00am and for coffee afterwards. How about giving that a try? PS: forgot to say it's free and you don't have to book.

  12. Depends how warm the day is - maybe an hour or two ahead of when you need to ice them? I found they're slightly less soft and fluffy after being frozen but still have the authentic home-made smell.

  14. Agree Brixton Lidl is uninspiring. Clapham Junction's pretty good.
  15. Isn't it one of those car parks that are operated privately? According to previous threads these aren't legal fines and can be ignored. Does anyone know the current situation?
  16. I used to use HSBC for business. Account was opened in 30 minutes and they never put a foot wrong.
  17. Another vote for First Direct. Been with them 14 years now and service is excellent. If I absolutely had to change for some reason I'd consider Tesco as when I've had savings accounts the service was always good and straightforward. Not sure if RCI does retail banking but they're lovely to deal with on savings. I wouldn't bank again with Santander under any circumstances. Way too stressful.
  18. Depends a lot on the people, but if the parents are otherwise reasonable and just struggling with a challenging child, they might just welcome a third party giving feedback as that could help them keep better standards and boundaries with him. On the other hand if they're just as bad it's trickier. I wonder if they'd take it better if you pick a quiet moment and say you're worried that it's frightening your two-year-old? I can see you need to address it now or face a miserable summer.
  19. How about a Victoria sponge filled with whipped cream (add a teaspoon of icing sugar and a couple of drops of vanilla essence if you have it) and sliced strawberries? Blueberries are also good. ETA - or start as above but do in muffin or fairy cake cases with filling piled on top.
  20. Two nights in a row? Presumably the same people.
