  1. H&M have some kids PJs in a (very) luminous skeleton print at the moment; much hilarity last weekend watching my small niece dancing in hers in the dark. I'd love something similar for cycling at night.
  2. That'll be reported incidents, though. I cycle through the junction frequently and have had lots of near misses, as well as being intimidated into getting off the road by drivers turning right out of Townley Rd who act like they have right of way over traffic going straight on from Greendale, and also parents outside JAGS who show a total lack of concern for anyone but themselves and girls in a JAGS uniform. Perhaps the nasty incident with the bus recently has been a trigger for the consultation.
  3. For what it's worth I have some sympathy with Blah Blah's comments. I've met people locally who told me they won't go into the Lounge because of it, so I think he (I'm assuming it's a he) has a point, whether or not he's a new user, a reincarnation, someone who's created a profile just to say this - or just another wind-up.
  4. I got the information in the post this morning and on the whole I'm in favour. As someone who regularly cycles and walks through this junction I think it will hugely improve road safety for more vulnerable road users. I have been forced off the road by drivers at this junction, especially those on the Townley Road side waiting to turn right who ignore the fact that, when lights are green, oncoming cyclists from Greendale have right of way (just like a car, folks). However, I agree that removing the right turn from Townley Road is impractical, and I think it's likely to lead to illegal turns or people using the top of Greendale, outside the school, for U-turns, which obviously would add to the danger. Also not sure about building out the pavement on the end of the Townley Road part of the junction as I think that will tend to increase the bottleneck at busy times, and adding trees at a point where schoolchildren are crossing could decrease visibility. One area it doesn't address in my view is parents collecting children from JAGS by car. They frequently cause obstructions, do illegal turns and pull out in front of cyclists without checking (again, just speaking from my own experience). I would make parking at the top of Greendale permit-holders only.
  5. (Truthful answer is actually 'greige'.)
  6. Gamboge! Thanks, that's better.
  7. Oh, calm down all of you. Blah Blah, please stay. In my view the Lounge has been getting dull and it could do with new blood.
  8. And I agree that cyclists should make ourselves visible. Good to do stuff to keep yourself safe, surely? Not sure why the negative responses to Salsaboy's comment.
  9. Found myself thinking about the small, personal pleasures that can lift an otherwise dull day. One of my secret pleasures is coming across a word you don't know that immediately fills a gap in your vocabulary that until that moment you weren't aware of (so not a neologism but new to me). Today's is gamboge, which is a yellowish-brown colour. For maximum satisfaction I will need to find a use for it in the near future.
  10. Good on you, Jim the Chin; all cyclists will salute your thoughtfulness. When you do cycle training they tell you to allow at least a metre when passing a car for exactly that reason, so arguably he was partly responsible.

  12. Actually that's not.
  13. Correct punctuation.

What, you'd prefer active aggression? It's Friday night and I can't be bothered, sorry... But to explain: I don't agree with some of the decisions Admin made on the Conservative candidate thread today, including deleting a post of mine which wasn't particularly critical. In my opinion - I appreciate Admin has a different view - it has been a bit heavy-handed and not in the spirit of social media, which should give people a voice where they CAN question the context, motivation, background etc - just as they would be able to in a face-to-face discussion, in fact. As I have in the past seen other threads which could really have done with moderation but didn't get it I felt it amounted to selective censorship. Ultimately I think that may undermine the thread - clearly it has done for me anyway - but we'll see I guess.
  15. Once during a heated game of Trivial Pursuit (clearly a long time ago) I acted on a passing impulse to kick my then BF for being a rubbish player. Wish I'd kicked him more often, really.
  16. I wonder how reliable the info on the 'still made in Britain' type of sites is. Just been to Church's in Bond St, only to be told that actually their women's shoes are made in Italy - only the bulk of the men's are bench-made here - and this is because Church's is now owned by Prada. Perhaps this explains what's happened to the big-name brands and why most of those producing in this country seem to be smaller and/or newer. (Still focusing on shoes and clothes here, so may obviously not be true of jet engines or talent shows.)
  17. When Admin strays from apparent apathy to censorship and back again.
  18. Have to agree with nxjen - this does look like one strand of a candidate's campaign for election and to build a local engagement agenda, but I'd be happy to be proved wrong!
  19. I could be a vegetarian if it wasn't for sausages.

  21. Or do I mean Beckett? Someone will know.
  22. It has undertones of Pinter.
  23. The trees don't make a difference - it's Peckham. I left my bike outside McDonald's for ten minutes one sunny afternoon last year, and when I came back someone had stuck a huge nail through the side wall of the tyre. If you're worried, use the station bike park.

  25. I have a pair of socks I bought 25 years ago. I wear them maybe 20 times a year and they still have no holes, though they're a bit battered. Hard to imagine anything I've bought in the last few years lasting as long.
