  1. Re: Christmas Tree Recycling new Posted by: eater81 Yesterday, 11:24AM Don't know if they're doing it this year, but last year there was an Xmas tree shredding machine in the middle of Peckham Rye, near the cafe. They were shredding xmas trees free of charge.
  2. Takes me 20 mins to Pimlico ,so I'm sure 30 mins for your journey would do it. I'm definitely not fit but found it so much easier and qucker than the bus. Be encouraged ,I'm sure you'd love it. We need some clever person to suggest a route though . I always try and avoid the 185 route - Dog Kennel Hill,Camberwell Green ,and absolutely NOT Camberwell new Rd up to the Oval. Here's some of my efforts straight across at the end of Townley Rd up ( traffic free but bit spooky in the dark ) Greendales at the side of JAGS. Across Denmark Hill ,left and right ( not exact ) and down the first bit of Herne Hill Rd ( with the LIbrary )take a left and and a right ( again not exact ) and straight down Poplar Rd ( I think ) . Brings you out at Loughborough junction where you go straight across and keep going straight ,across major junction, then left and this brings you out near the Oval. On the way back ,just past Vauxhall I keep straight on down Kennington Lane ,past the TESCO'S ,turn right at lights across main road straight on and then turn left ,then right and you come to Kennington Park Rd which you can cross by turning right and tiny bit of pavement cycling and then across traffic lights down ( not sure of name ) road opposite and along side of park ,parllel to gahstly Camberwell New Rd . Go straight until you reach John Ruskin St where you turn right and then left down Bethwin Rd and straight across Camberwell Rd, thru Addington Square ,across main road ,and straight on down Edmund Rd ( bit scary in the dark as a bit deserted but only a short bit ) and then straight on down Benhill Rd which brings you out to main rd btwn Camberwell And Peckham ( Peckham Rd ) . I normally go straight across up Wilson Rd and left and right ( not accurate ) into Camberwell Grove.( which is not as steep as you might think ).
  3. Same here - go for the Norway Spruce not the non drop Nordman fir ,then you get the lovely smell.
  4. Tend to agree with you LP. But great to see another swapfest/ give and take day in Darrell Rd on the 24 Jan.
  5. tomdhu would you know whether there is any info available on affect of other works carried out by TW or other water authorities ? You say TW has previous... I've looked at New Scientist link, which looks pretty worrying ,especially the text where it seems that it's too easy for firms to distance themselves from claims that they've caused subsidence . Certainely it sounds really concerning,I guess this will also have implications re buildings insurance - good on you for bringing this to our attention. Is there somewhere that gives more info about the exact route of the tunnel - we're mid Barry Rd ( which is already affected by subsidence ,aggravated IMO by the bendy buses )and I'm wondering how close our address will be to the route.
  6. Sympathies . Whereabouts in East Dulwich is she ? My son was reporting signs of a giant cat in Silvester Rd .
  7. I take the safety point but ....I know for many elderly people ( who rely on buses ) that the speed bumps make their journey painful and also precarious if they've not managed to sit down before the bus pulls off.
  8. Maybe tell us what roads you're considering ? My 88 year old mum lives near Lidls in Peckham and I can promise you her place is much quieter than East Dulwich. She never has any trouble ,even when she staggers out to the shops in Rye Lane.
  9. Have these incidents been reported to the police ?

  11. Major road accident.
  12. Hi ,glad to hear application refused. DOES ANYONE HAVE THE APPLICATION NUMBER ? My search on Southwark Planning online using various computations of Etherow,Barry etc has drawn a blank. Would really like to read reasons given for refusal as they may be relevant to comments I am in process of making on planning application 08-AP-1916. This is an application to build 4 x 3 bedroom houses on land at rear of gardens of 153 - 163 Barry Rd ,with new access road ( over 200 feet long ) running down between 151 and 153 Barry Rd ,plus pedestrian footpath between 163 and 167 ( nos 165 does not exist ). I wasn't around in the summer ,but 2 points briefly on the Etherow / Barry Rd flats thread - the house I live in ,middle of Barry Rd - has a covenant restricting the erection of buildings within 20 feet of Barry Rd. It seems likely that similar covenants exist affecting other properties in Barry Rd. While I agree about subsidence ( and also about effect of bendy buses shaking the houses ) I'm not sure Southwark will take such worries into account .They judge only in relation to their planning regs. Though I suppose subsidence could come under loss of amenity. But the subsidence would presumably happen after planning granted and the cause would have to be proved.
  13. The need for additional school places ,especially boys ,is without doubt. But the site is too small for the number of pupils proposed. Harris's planning statement ( 6.12 )describes how in an effort to ameliorate the lack of space , the school day will involve staggered starting ,finishing and break times. Apart from the complexity of actually operating such a system I do wonder how mentoring ,role models of sixth formers etc will work when pupils will have limited chance to meet.
  14. Quite. One wonders why ,if the building is so spectacular, does it need the aid of a manipulated image . Oh right, it's to back up the verbal spin " pavilion in the park ". And application forms hand delivered to all addresses in the area.Maybe there is a need to drum up support.
