Head Leaving Sydenham School
intexasatthe moment replied to Mrs TP's topic in The Family Room Discussion
The thread's first post asked if anyone knew why the head was leaving and speculated that she may have been pushed It seems a bit contrary to jump so hard on the person responding to those questions . -
What fantastic news .You're a star to update us .

Peckham Rye Police OP Big Wing Day
intexasatthe moment replied to Peckham Rye LPT's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Louisa give them a break ,maybe it was auto correct . antanant ,pot IS a real drug . Bet they're glad they posted . Iknow someone who lives in Mundiana and has a rough time - I best she at least is pleased to read this . -
" re: drop offs being permitted - would that really be a good idea Wouldnb't a lot more people make use of such a facility and wouldn't that generate traffic congestion on Rye Lane itself? I always get the impression that road is only 3 or 4 more cars away from gridlock" strafer -drop off could be to side of station in Blenheim/ Holly or Elm Grove ,not in Rye Lane itself .

I suppose the trouble is that the PCN's are issued automatically as a result of cameras .Makes it all very black and white and no room for common sense or discretion until it gets to the appeal stage ,by which time I suppose it's it's a little late . I agree with OP there should a specific ruling to allow a 10 minute window for drop offs and pick ups . Is the bay opposite the Liberal Club in Elm Grove controlled by cameras or Traffic Wardens .If the latter then that might be a better bet ?

Kings have a very good ( though I'm afraid it can be a bit " luck of the draw with which Dr you're seen by ") holistic department Betty Alexander/Older Persons Assesment and the GP should be able to refer .They can review any ailments and drugs .https://www.kch.nhs.uk/service/a-z/clinical-gerontology Once she's been asessed by Social Services they should come up with a care package - the budget can be paid direct to you/mother so that you can employ someone if you prefer this ( there can be more continuity with a carer you employ ) http://www.ageuk.org.uk/Documents/EN-GB/Information-guides/AgeUKIG26_personal_budgets_inf.pdf?dtrk=true Does she receive an Attendance Allowance ? This is backdated to date of application so best to do early rather than late .It's not means tested .http://www.ageuk.org.uk/money-matters/claiming-benefits/attendance-allowance/what-is-attendance-allowance/ Good luck - let us know how you get on . It can be a very tortuos process .

Destroying the trees

ella - what a fantastic post . Yes ,yes to .....the existing topiary makes me smile ,not too much of a stretch to say brightens my day .HUGE thanks to Lucy . "there is a roof garden proposed which could offer much better conditions for growing food in containers than the strip between the high school building and a hedge. There are two great gardens - Marsden Road Wildlife Garden and Bellenden Road Nature Garden - within short walks of the school, the latter perhaps in need of a school partner now that Highshore has moved. There are lots of possibilities that would connect the school with the local community. " excellent points -

Railway Rise - more demolition?

I'm not sure that English Heritage would move fast enough for there to be any impact on this application . -
Railway Rise - more demolition?
intexasatthe moment replied to chazzle's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Consultation period ends 28 Feb according to this http://planbuild.southwark.gov.uk:8190/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=dates&keyVal=_STHWR_DCAPR_9558549 The on line comments form indicates that there is an attempt to restrict comments to 1000 characters . I think there may be more interest from posters if the thread title were changed to indicate that the subject was concern over a recent planning application to develop Railway Rise . -

James has previously linked to this "If you have a comment or a complaint about a GP, dentist, pharmacy or optician contact the London office of NHS England at [email protected]. You can also contact NHS England on 0300 311 22 33. There is more information available at http://www.england.nhs.uk/contact-us/complaint." -
Ha - fourth time lucky ! "Southwark Labour introduced new rules that all new dropped kerbs must have 2 metres (6?6″) of double yellow lines both sides of them. That means that the dropped kerb reduces on street parking by one car length and 2 x 2m = by another car length of parknig removed with each dropped kerb. Ouch! Last night at the Dulwich Community Council we had 4 such dropped kerbs to approve. I persuaded the committee that this Southwark Labour Council rule is silly. That if we must have double yellow lines they should be abslutely minimised. I?m grateful that all three parties agreed we should recommend 0.5m of double yellow lines OR the decision comes back to the committee to be looked at again with an officer to explain the minutae of these rules. Fingers crossed this is the first step to getting more sensible dropped kerb and double yellow lines policies in place." Great news that dropped kerb applications are being considered at Community Councils . Do you know whether applications will be treated like other planning applications and neighbours consulted ?

people knocking at doors

I always think how desperate for work they must be to take on such a frankly difficult unrewarding job . And why don't the charities make it easier to give a one off card donation as opposed to it's sign up for monthly contributions ( which of course I understand the preference for ) or nothing . And yes I know it's possible to sign up for monthly donations and then cancel after one . -

Frozen-themed week at nursery.
intexasatthe moment replied to Bellenden Belle's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I understood BB that you weren't expressing a wish for your child to be hot housed . My point - poorly expressed ,sorry , was experienced /well educated staff would know better than to hot house .Child not being hot housed ,ergo staff = experienced /well educated . But of course lack of experience and education doesn't mean that someone isn't highly intelligent . Hope the Frozen week goes well for all those involved .It's stressful holding down a job and bringing children up ,themed weeks could tip one over the edge . -

As a postgraduate who has worked in a number of preschools my judgement is that this sector is not peopled by inexperienced or uneducated staff . The sentence "I'm not convinced they are experienced or particularly well educated." seems to imply a belief that they are . But I apologise if that's not what was meant and I've misunderstood . -

" I'm not convinced they are experienced or particularly well educated. And most of the time that doesn't bother me - I don't need my child hot-housed aged three" just to say that experienced and well educated staff might possibly be aware that hot housing is not an appropriate or recommended form of education .For any age . -

"It may be that the staff are not very well educated and therefore have to resort to this type of thing." what a patronising ,offensive and unintelligent comment .
