  1. Did anyone submit comments on the application for 30 Hindmans ? None shown online http://planningonline.southwark.gov.uk/AcolNetCGI.exe?ACTION=UNWRAP&RIPNAME=Root.PgeDocs&TheSystemkey=9557120 Surprised .
  2. Oh be quiet - don't try and shift the reasons for your hasty and incorrect judgement . Why is the onus on the charity to hone it's on line presentation skills and not on the likes of you to be a bit more alert at the actual point of sale . Or even just not to be so quick to jump to conclusions .
  3. Terrific OP ,Loz and grace - there's some dodgy operations so lets just use that as justification for thinking that this is . Despite the 8 ft high board showing how much money raised so far for St Christopher's with the headed A4 letter notice attached to it and the jacket emblazoned St Christopher's Hospice worn by the lady serving .
  4. I bought a tree there on Monday and the lady was lovely ,insisted on holding trees up together for comparison . And we got a fantastic tree for a great price .
  5. Quite agree kiera . I didn't agree with dismissing the whole process of consultations by saying they didn't constitute a ballot . Was quoting to illustrate how shoddy ( not to mention hugely expensive ) consultations often are .
  6. Mmm ,as I've been memorably told " A consultation isn't the same thing as a rolling ballot ,you don't just vote for what you want ."
  7. Ed - as I understand it is the scale of the proposal to build a school on MOL that would require the application to be approved by the secretary of state and takes it out of Southwark's remit .
  8. I really don't know how many times I need to say this but the decision to build on MOL is not made by Southwark . They can apply ( as they have done in the past to extend school buildings on the Homestall site ) but it would clearly be silly to apply when the application will be so out of line with the national policy . http://planningguidance.planningportal.gov.uk/blog/guidance/open-space-sports-and-recreation-facilities-public-rights-of-way-and-local-green-space/local-green-space-designation/ As I said before James - please do share these many cases where schools have built on MOL . Applications to extend are permitted if there is sufficient space . But this is not the same as building an entire school . Especially since the Homestall MOL is a considerably smaller area than that of the MOL of some of the private schools in Southwark .
  9. Yes Southwark can apply - for example they had to apply for the temporary buildings currently housing thetemp classrooms and before that for extensions to the secondary school . But they can't grant permission . It's one thing to apply for a few temp classrooms or a Theatre or a Music room on MOL ,especially if like some of the private schools this is only going to take a small percentage of open land . It's another thing to apply for permission for a whole school on a space that has already been extended into .And where the head of the existing school is saying there isn't space . Should Southwark ignore the national policy ,go against the policy and waste money putting an application in ? So
  10. James 1 ITS NOT UP TO SOUTHWARK TO APPROVE BUILDING ON MOL 2 " Repeatedly " - do tell , I can only think of one instance and this involved one building ( not an entire school). As far as I understand it extensions can be approved provided sufficient open land remains. 3 In the past approval for extensions of school building on MOL at Homestall Rd have been put forward by Southwark and approved . So not one rule for state and another for private . 4 There is very limited land left at Homestall Rd to build without impacting on the "open space " requirement of MOL protection . 5 Approval for an extension for an educational building ( be it private or state ) is not the same thing as approval for a whole new school .
  11. Oh it hurts doesn't it ? Many sympathies .
  12. Link to consultation and feedback form here http://www.southwark.gov.uk/info/200308/current/3639/townley_road
  13. Goodness I'm sick of James endlessly repeating that Southwark are singlehandedly blocking a new primary school being built on Homestall Rd . Does he really think that if he says it often enough people will forget that national planning restrictions to protect greenbelt /MOL in London exist ? Is this the extent of his political spin ? Or maybe he thinks we're all stupid or too busy to do anything other than just swallow wholesale everything he says ? After all he's so brave and unselfish ,only being on this forum to help local residents with their problems . The London Plan says this about MOL 3D.10 Metropolitan Open Land The Mayor will and boroughs should maintain the protection of Metropolitan Open Land (MOL) from inappropriate development......Essential facilities for appropriate uses will only be acceptable where they do not have an adverse impact on the openness of MOL. which does rather give the thumbs down to putting buildings on it . Wikipedia explains "planning permission to carry it out cannot be granted by a London Borough acting alone, but requires the concurrence of the Mayor of London and the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government." which rather gives the lie to the idea that it's not just naughty old Southwark being intransigent .
  14. I have heard that warm olive oil is not recommended .When it cools it just adds a seal to the existing blockage . Doctor I think .Good luck with that !
  15. "I have suggested sites to both authorities and neither have followed them up. So we're stuck with two intransigent public bodies who both by their actions will make this happen. " I hope these sites don't include Metropolitan Open Land such as found at the East Dulwich Harris Girls site . But maybe James has moved on from suggesting Harris Girls and has found alternative sites ?
  16. Brown recycling bin ,minus any bags you may nave used to bag them up ? Or have you not got one of the large brown bins ?
  17. That's really helpful Penguin ,thanks .
  18. Tory/Lib Dem government policies ?
  19. As already said it's going to be a library + flats + shop Redevelopment of existing garden centre to provide a 4 storey building comprising basement storage and plant areas; ground floor Class A1 retail unit and D1 community (shown as library) unit; with 20 residential units (5 x 1 bed, 11 x 2 bed and 4 x 3 bed flats) on the first, second and third floors together with associated parking, amenity, landscaping, waste and cycle storage. http://planningonline.southwark.gov.uk/AcolNetCGI.exe?ACTION=UNWRAP&RIPNAME=Root.PgeResultDetail&TheSystemkey=9538657
  20. Just a question of comparison . Pavements off Rye Lane and Rye Lane itself are in worse shape than LL and environs .
  21. I quite agree first mate . And I can never understand why Lordship Lane pavements always seem to take priority over ,for example ,turnings off Rye Lane ,like Highshore . Or why Court Lane got fancy sinusodial speed humps .
  22. No worries .The vagaries of the internet !( speaking as someone who recently mistakenly italicised a whole EDF thread )!
  23. I think it's all down to experience . Someone had to point out to me that wheelchairs have 2 bars at the back ,between the wheels and parallel to the wheels, that you push down on with your foot to lever the chair up a curb .
  24. ooh Charles don't add to the confusion .Your link takes us to Hastings ?
  25. "Try it with a wheelchair mate. Not possible with high kerbs! Especially if the wheelchair pusher is infirm." That's an odd thing to assert ,I regularly push a wheelchair and can manage high curbs ,even after major surgery to my stomach . Negotiating the camber of some pavements that give access to front drive parking and hitting uneven pavestones - now that can be tricky .
