Did you spot him on Jonathan Ross last night? Sounding good and looking remarkably well preserved... going to be 50 this year, but (admittedly on my crappy TV) he would have passed for a 30 something. The only vocalist in recent years who really gave me that "hair standing end" feeling was Norah Jones on her first album, not quite so taken with the other two. I don't really like anything Simply Red have done in recent years, but I will confess that I saw them live over 20 years ago, and Mick Hucknell sang Holding back the years with just an acoustic guitar and it was definitely a hair standing on end moment. Current favourite vocalists would have to include James Morrison and Madeleine Peyroux.

I spent years at university drinking cider and then many years after not able to touch the stuff after one too many times tasting cider in reverse... Never thought I'd like it again but have found myself enjoying the odd glass of Magners, Bulmers or best of all the Kopparberg Pear. Guess pretty much everything comes back into fashion in the end.

Likewise, I had a time when I was travelling to Dorking regularly and got the train to Wimbledon to connect with the Dorking train and decided one day to try driving it.... took me ages, and the driving route did take me most of the way to Wimbledon, was just painfully slow. I found the Wimbledon train to be fairly reliable despite it's infrequency, just got to be a bit more organised to ensure don't miss one and have to wait another half hour. Fun part is getting home afterwards - they are pretty early in the evening from recollection, I was never off work early enough to get one.

First drinks I went to I just asked if someone who was going was willing to let me have their mobile number and then texted on the day to check they were there and how I would recognise them. Having a text description of who I was looking for and them the same of me and knowing when I was going to arrive meant we both recognised each other when I came in, he introduced me to a few folk and that was it, job done. I might have been a bit scared otherwise. -
surly black cab drivers ! (not taking fares to ED)
indiepanda replied to spark67's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I have to say I have never had a problem finding a cab to come south of the river. I do always state my destination before getting in but never found anyone objected. -

As for the music, I guess Blur have more slow reflective type ones than Oasis, the The Universal etc, but then Oasis have nothing to touch Song 2 for energy. To be honest, I like them both, just if forced to pick one over the other, I'd go for Blur for the variety.

I've seen both Oasis and Blur and Blur were MUCH more energetic than Oasis when I saw them. Few years since I saw Oasis though - was at the V festival in 2005.

I feel you are looking for something more erudite than "it just does"... best I can manage is it looks too small for it's chunkiness. A style that works on something larger doesn't necessarily work on something smaller.
-
Yes, that's the kind of half pint glass they use - looks really silly. It's like they want to punish you for only wanting a half pint.

Damon certainly didn't mention the Oasis gigs at the Blur gig last week (well, I can't speak for the Friday one, but he didn't on the Thursday).

Door to door scare-mongering (AVIVA health insurance)

Door to door scare-mongering (AVIVA health insurance)
indiepanda replied to Mrs TP's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
It's downright irresponsible to sell that way, apart from distasteful. Private Medical Insurance won't cover you for treatment at your GP or in the ED. You are pretty unlikely to end up in hospital with swine flu anyway - and if you do, chances of getting a private bed with no warning is remote anyway. PMI is really for stuff you can schedule not go in for an emergency. I'm surprised by them - I used to work for the company and I thought they got rid of the dodgy sales staff and only kept the professional ones. -

urgh... Federer nails it again. How disappointing.

the tension is killing me - both are playing so well, but I want Roddick to win it despite him knocking Murray out.

Help!! Where is there to go dancin' tonight in ED?
indiepanda replied to BQC's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Liquorish plays ok music but as you say, the dancefloor is tiny, and it gets hellishly hot inside. I wouldn't pick it for a venue to dance all night in - alright for a few songs near the end of the night. -

Doesn't sound that mixed... suggests she is up for a fling but no more. I don't think introducing your dogs is quite the same as introducing someone to your family!

Sweeping generalisations always miss a lot, and my comments were tongue in cheek about both sexes. I don't think I have ever known a friend of mine reject a guy for not being a good earner though I have known the odd or two who really do expect a guy to always pay on dates which seems a bit old fashioned to me.
-
Mick Mac Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Are women really attracted by money? Well, sweeping generalisation, but stereotypically men are thought to be more interested in what a woman looks like (young and fit = good mother), women more interested in how powerful / wealthy a man is (good provider for the family). I can't say I have ever gone out with guy for his money and I am sure there are plenty of other women who are not motivated by money... but I guess the stereotype might have some element of truth about it! I mean, look at the women who seem to be obsessed with what the WAGS lifestyle is like - famous only for spending their footballer husband's money in most cases!

I've given up booze and am bored out of my mind!
indiepanda replied to LegalEagle-ish's topic in The Lounge
I really should give up drinking... I sure as hell don't need the calories and it would be nice not waking up with a headache on Sunday morning.... but I really can't see it happening somehow. It's only fun if no one else is drinking too. The odd night out 3I've had on antibiotics with enforced sobrietry were kind of tedious. I have been known to drink G&Ts and slip in a straight tonic water when it's come to my round... but that's more to save myself from getting to the vomity stage than anything else. At least I can keep booze in the house without drinking it - chocolate is a different matter.... -

I would thought they should have been happy that they got the last laugh when they got to take over England without a fight when Elizabeth I died without a child of her own.
