But I have to say your role-playing posts have really made me chuckle.

Chaos on public transport (from East Dulwich)
indiepanda replied to Timster's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
According to the radio there were problems on the trains due to ice on the rails, they were recommending not travelling before 9. Don't know what went wrong with the buses. Rather glad I had already planned to work from home today and saved myself the hassle - sounds like we go via the same route and I would have been delayed too. -

Thanks, yes I can picture it now you describe it - must have driven past on way home to parents before. How will I recognize everyone? Anyone who is definitely going willing to PM me their mobile so I can find you in the pub? -
Good post KalamityKel I have to say compared to one other forum I post on this one is generally less cliquey and more serious, so I probably don't find some of the recent threads quite as out of line as some people here. I think most forums have their own character and a bit of lurking to work out what the general tone is before joining in full pelt often feels like a wise investment, just like trying to join a group of established friends when you join a new job. I am always a bit cautious at first. I would say even in my short time posting (since last summer) I have noticed a bit of a change in the threads, and I have felt a bit less inspired to post of late, I do like a good serious debate. If I am honest my main motivation in posting was to meet people to hang out with in person rather than spend many hours on line - I spend too many hours in front of a computer at work, and even if the EDF wasn't a monitored site at work I am usually rushed off my feet so couldn't find the time to post during the day. The forum certainly offers plenty of opportunites to meet people, and if I haven't met people often enough to get to the stage of hanging out outside of official forum events, it's basically my fault - well, I could blame the job and it's partly true, but it's also my poor ability to refuse work which is only increased by not wanting to be the one that says "no" during a recession!

Melbourne Grove Medical Centre

That sounds dreadful - he ought to be struck off for behaviour like that. Good luck with finding a better doctor - I had a spell of feeling very low over a year ago brought on by significant stress at work (I don't like to label it as depression but given I was feeling suicidal on a daily basis it's hard to pretend it wasn't!) and my GP was pretty good, though not much use to you as an alternative because I was living in SW London at the time. I wouldn't recommend relying on GPs alone to help with depression though - my mum has suffered on and off for 40+ years and I feel they could have been much quicker to refer her onto a therapist. Pills are important to help get symptoms under control at first, but I do think it is good to get some form of therapy to help get to the root of the problem. At the end of the day GPs have to know a bit about everything and will never be able to compare to a specialist in the subject, and the typical GP appointment slot is too short to deal with any mental health issues properly (I think on more than one occasion my GP must have been late for her next appointment after seeing me). -

I'm going to try to come too, well once I have worked out where the Plough is of course... :-$ -
Well, it may have been an honest mistake with the fireworks, but it wasn't just the bangs though, the music was blaring out loud enough to have woken people without any bangs. Or did the head not have the ability to get that turned down either??
-
I saw the fireworks, very good they were too - but I have to say it was the loudness of the music that alerted my attention to them - and I live on Crystal Palace Road. I was trying to get to sleep, having to be up at 5.30am. It did seem a bit late for a display - it's not like it's summer and they needed to leave it that late to be after dark after all.

Good point - it's like those "Baby on Board" signs people put in the back window of their car. The kind of inconsiderate oaf who is going to drive like they want to get right into your boot isn't likely to suddenly become considerate because you have a child in the car.

Being an Essex girl, I don't suppose I could comment on "culture" of any description ;-)
-
Am I alone in not thinking of myself as "British"? I find most Scots or Welsh people seem to call themselves scottish or welsh, so it feels a bit odd describing myself as British... tend to think of myself as English, even though I'd be hard pressed to say what I think the difference between the two is in cultural terms. (I should say before anyone challenges me on it given how some people love to try to read racism into every comment, I don't think being English is any better than being Welsh/Scottish/any other nationality!)

I would be interested in coming aLlong. No strong feelings on date, but prefer Saturday night or maybe Friday to weekdays cos I often end up working late during the week. -

Duppytown? Which part of Dulwich is this?
indiepanda replied to macroban's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Yes, I don't suppose the Celts who lived here centuries ago would recognise the English language as we speak it now - it's hard enough for us to read the likes of Chaucer now. Language isn't fixed, it evolves, and one of the key influences is other cultures / languages of people who come to live here. -
The price of the first pint (drink)I ever bought was..?

No, but I went to one built around the same time - Bath. Much smaller uni than Warwick - just had the one bar in those days (it's pushing 15 years and I know the uni has expanded since I left, so might be quite different now) -

Can't quite recall the first, but when I was at university it was ?1.30 for a pint of strongbow in the bar. For some reason ours wasn't union ran so it wasn't that much cheaper than going to town. I think we only ever drank there because town was a bus ride away so no use for a quick one near closing time - it had all the charm & atmosphere of an airport terminal lounge. -
I think people are being a bit tough on jaybee. If a girl has posted that a bloke had turned up for their date completely plastered, would people have been so quick to condemn her for not making sure the bloke got home? When all is said and done, a drunk guy is probably as vulnerable, if not rather more so, to getting into trouble - just more likely to be violence than rape. I wouldn't dream of turning up for a date already smashed, it's really bad manners. I like a drink, but I think I've only twice in my life got myself into a state where friends needed to see me home and never to the point of being out with sick dribbling down my face - that's just disgusting. Maybe it wasn't the most "gentlemanly" thing to do - but then turning up in that state isn't exactly ladylike!

I went to see Keane at the O2 last night. I am sure it's not meant to be "cool" to like them, but I really enjoyed it anyway :-). Realized it was the first time in about 18 years I've been to an arena gig rather than a smaller venue, atmosphere was better than I expected, though I wouldn't much have fancied being in a seated part of the arena, couldn't believe how many people stayed sitting down for most of the gig!
-
Right now mine is brimming over, but going to a good gig always does that for me. And it's only one more day to the weekend too so I am a happy bunny. Bet it won't feel quite so good when the alarm goes off in the morning though!

I didn't even know they did dresses, thought of them as a bra place. Am definately going to have to investigate because I am definitely more than a bit curvy! My favourite dress ever was one my mum made me when I was a student. I still have it tucked away in a suitcase though I never expect to be slim enough to wear it again, and it would probably look rather dated now. It was a shot taffeta ballgown, but instead of being shot with black it was blue and green so it was this shimmery peacock blue colour which was quite unusual among all the black dresses most others were wearing. (I can't wear black anyway, it makes me look ill) And it was a perfect fit - mum did a great job with the boned bodice. I used to get loads of complements on it, was a real pleasure to wear.

After reading that amazing list of dresses I feel like by comparision I only have my boring cars too. And given I drive a Ford Focus that is saying something.

Argh.... what makes companies think it is a good idea to have a celebratory meal to mark the end of a project on a Tuesday night? :( Am feeling decidedly fuzzy headed this morning. Hard to keep track of what you are drinking when the waiters keep refilling your glass when you are lost in conversation. Still I shouldn't complain too much, it was free.

Mot the best way of meeting single girls perhaps, though I know not all share my complete lack of interest in the game.
