  1. Authorities seem to have been able to discern the difference here. https://nltimes.nl/2024/09/12/authorities-seize-16500-illegal-fat-bikes-capable-reaching-higher-speeds I think we’re all in agreement that these e-motorbikes/e-mopeds need to be restricted & regulated (for a lot of reasons).
  2. “Everyone knows a fatbike is very different to an e-bike,” Everyone apart from Rockets?
  3. “Everyone knows a fatbike is very different to an e-bike,” she said. “The tyres are wider, the bikes are heavier and you don’t need to pedal to move forward, so they are more like a moped than a bike.” Selectively ignoring the words of the traffic police chief posted above. Again, sure, go ahead and argue with the police.
  4. Again, I don’t think you’ve been following this Mate. Upthread I paraphrased; ‘Some locals occasionally get frustrated with the number of tourists at peak times’ Which is true of any tourist hotspot, and is completely different from; ‘downtown Amsterdam where the frustration and anger towards cyclists is palpable‘ ‘anywhere inside Singelgracht is a nightmare for pedestrians‘ All the pedestrians in the cams seem unaware of this supposed district-wide chaos - and I reckon most of the cyclist are residents. People going to work, young people going to school, delivery riders on cargo bikes. But sure, go ahead, argue with a LiveCam.
  5. What did I experience then? What are all these central Amsterdam livecams showing? I can see pedestrians going about their day, people in vehicles, people on bikes, micro-mobility, cargo bikes, delivery vehicles, service vehicles, trams. Looks very harmonious to me. None of the chaos, the utter nightmare, over the entire district. Current evidence for cross-town nightmare-chaos is .....you, an anonymous poster, on a forum, hundreds of miles away - ? -------- I understand this is sport to you, and you're carrying on/will carry on despite all the clear evidence. I'd say this is the definition of a troll. ...which I'll keep saying, totally undermines any reasonable points in the discussion. Enjoy the cams, quite soothing!
  6. Maybe you've not been following, but I was there last week, and the live cam reflects my experience - as does Streetview. I said upthread that there will be vids/posts/whatever from some residents annoyed at peak times/tourist hotspots/whatever, and acknowledged that this happens at many tourist hotspots the world over - including issues with pedestrian congestion. I've also acknowledge that e-motorbike/e-scooters in public pedestrian parks needs to be addressed/restricted, but the statements; ‘downtown Amsterdam where the frustration and anger towards cyclists is palpable‘ ‘anywhere inside Singelgracht is a nightmare for pedestrians‘ and an 'utter nightmare' Is simply untrue.
  7. How about a live street cam in central? Plenty available, picked this at random; Shows exactly the same as Streetview - a harmonious city centre, with integration of all forms of transport. Motor vehicles, bikes, pedestrians, micromobility vehicles - I don't think you can see trams, but there is a line around the corner. I'd say it's the opposite of the entire central district being an 'utter nightmare' you assert.
  8. well, that's great news then if they have the authority to ban e-motorbikes/scooters from a green, public park - much like Dulwich Park does? The police chiefs definition of the fatbike is clear in their own quote - a e-motorbike/e-scooter - and you've maybe confused/conflated with an offroad cycle with 4"+ wide tyres for snow/sand. I think this is a very rational, pragmatic approach, as I said in my post above yours, so isn't true. Again, not sure why you have a problem with the suggestion of Streetview; this invitation was for forum readers, not you (clearly stated in my post), and is perfectly reasonable. Or does it not show an 'utter nightmare'? Your repeated challenging of 'streetview' is the definition of agitator and troll. You seem to want to continually argue with everything, even when demonstrably untrue. I'll get the thread back on track in next post ---------- Very sorry to read this Spark67, hope you are ok now. I had something similar relatively recently. Very visible, bright orange jacket, lights, bright street lights. I won't say too much because it's currently with CPS, but hit from behind by distracted driver which resulted in hospital and time off work. A deeply unpleasant experience.
  9. You missed the additional context (surprise surprise!) in the quote; “Everyone knows a fatbike is very different to an e-bike,” she said. “The tyres are wider, the bikes are heavier and you don’t need to pedal to move forward, so they are more like a moped than a bike.” So, electric mopeds then. And in this context, initially Vondelpark, an inner city green park …which I agree, seems fair enough to ban electric mopeds from largely pedestrian places. the quote you posted is from a traffic chief, not a politician. Why did you say this? https://www.dutchnews.nl/2025/11/amsterdam-looks-to-ban-fatbikes-from-busy-parts-of-the-city/ Finally, my Google Streetview suggestion; I invited forum readers to check it out for themselves, not you? You seem to know the place, but seem properly hungup on my post. Please, no need to respond. —— apologies for diverting from topic March, Mate but there needs to be fact-checking & context.
  10. Have I just won Rockets Bingo? The statements; ‘If you want to see the manifestation of how bad things can get go to downtown Amsterdam where the frustration and anger towards cyclists is palpable’ and a whole district being ‘an utter nightmare’ due to cyclists. Is completely different to occasional issues with tourist overcrowding ….tourists there because it’s such a nice place to visit, and not an utter nightmare. If you want to discuss this separate topic be my guest, but that’s not what I was correcting 🙂
  11. -in fact, anyone can wander these streets via the comfort of Google Streetview, and decide for themselves if it’s the nightmare Rockets asserts.
  12. ‘Some locals occasionally get frustrated with the number of tourists at peak times’. ….so like every tourist destination Rockets?…. keep scare-mongering all you like, but for the benefit of the forum, having seen it with my own eyes, central Amsterdam is not how you have presented it. —— You make out that ‘banning’ of cargo/large bikes from bike lanes is a bad thing. This is a sign of progress, that the reduction in private motorised vehicles and better infrastructure can allow this. Great document here on the strategy around reducing air pollution in Amsterdam, showing how far ahead things are - it all sounds very pleasant, and one which bikes/e-bikes/pedal power logistics/micro-mobility are a part of. https://assets.amsterdam.nl/publish/pages/867636/zero-emission_implementation_agenda_2023-2026.pdf -cue Rockets now picking this apart, finding fault, distracting, extrapolating a tiny detail, calling me a lobbyist, etc etc etc…
  13. your assertions that; ‘downtown Amsterdam where the frustration and anger towards cyclists is palpable‘ ‘anywhere inside Singelgracht is a nightmare for pedestrians‘ Is simply untrue Rockets. End of. As I’ve said before, the more you post these deliberate untruths, the more it undermines any decent discussion points, and outs you as an agitator and troll.
  14. Yes, I understood you Rockets - apologies I didn’t use the correct term, but it was clear what I meant (why do you have to argue with everything?). I ran around the area, both inside and out, and it seemed very civilised to me. Yes, there is a difference between sides of the canal, but no nightmares or ‘palpable anger’ that you claim is prevalent in the inner area. I’m sure you’ll reply with some tenuous blog/article/video of an annoyed person/local/tourist, but google doesn’t turn up much at all, so it’s clearly not the major problem you claim it to be. You seem actively mis-informed and/or willingly ignorant, yet again.
  15. Singelgracht area then. Whatever.
  16. ‘downtown Amsterdam where the frustration and anger towards cyclists is palpable‘ ‘anywhere inside Singelgracht is a nightmare for pedestrians‘ ??? Utter nonsense Rockets. I had a nice 30-minute run around the area yesterday morning, in ‘rush hour’. People going to work, young people going to school, deliveries being made to businesses, all forms of transport. It was all very pleasant, and I’m writing that as a pedestrian. Nothing could be further from what you have written. Why are you making this stuff up? Very possible that cargo bikes are being ‘banned’ from cycle lanes in Singelgracht because private car access is being phased out, leaving road space available for alternative delivery modes. edit; didn’t see Snowy’s reply while I was writing mine, appreciated @snowy
  17. Rockets; you couldn’t be more wrong. Amsterdam functions wonderfully with so many people cycling harmoniously alongside all other modes of transport, including walking, driving, micromobility, and trams. I say this because I’m typing this now from Amsterdam, and have been admiring how lovely the city is because of the integration of all transport.
  18. ‘Those trends’?
  19. ‘A clear pattern from…’?
  20. Why the change in a 3-month window ‘24 to ‘25 only? If there is direct correlation (as you suggest), surely there would have been a clear pattern from ….autumn 2020?
  21. This interest in lobbying is fascinating to watch. …..Yet no interest in the founder(s) of One Dulwich.
  22. Because the data set from the earlier report is over a much shorter time period, and covered fewer LTNs? Presumably that initial review then triggered a more extensive report, over a longer time period, for a clearer view.
  23. It is available through that link; you just need to pay for it, as with most peer-reviewed papers.
  24. Rockets, Seeing as I never said that, and don’t think that, I’d appreciate if you could edit your post to remove my name. Please stop making things up - keep the Rockets-version of events to yourself in future,
  25. I don’t believe that Rockets. You are making things up about me.
