  1. Hello! Just wanted to leave details of a happy experience I had with Jack who I found here on the forum. The back wall of my house was in pretty bad shape and needed to be re-rendered. I got a couple of quotes but went with Jack - who gave me a really happy quote and was totally accommodating with my need for a quick turn around. Things that are brilliant about Jack and his team.. Great quote, with no surprises at the end. He also did his best to keep the cost down for me where scaffolding was concerned. Accommodating wherever possible Very friendly and lovely Efficient, thorough and tidy Left me with a brilliant back wall And honestly, went above and beyond in my opinion. I haven't posted on the forum for a while as we moved over to West Norwood but I do still use it for finding trades people. And on this occasion I'm glad I did. I'm happy to show anybody his work if anyone wants more info. His number is 07877 805665. Beth :)
  2. Thank you all so much for your excellent suggestions!! And thank you for pointing out that it's actually Somerset, not Wiltshire! I have already sent a message to the research team at the Radstock Museum, so I have my fingers crossed for that! I have also already done a google search for photos of Fortescue Road, one does come up from the 60's but unfortunately it's a shot looking down the road so it's not clear what the shops signs say. Going to the local library is a brilliant idea but unfortunately I only have 3 weeks to put this together and no opportunity to get down there. I love the idea of leaving a message on a local-to-Radstock forum to see if anyone has any suggestions so I will definitely do that! My friend suggested I contact the shop that is there now, as they might know what came before. I'm going to try all the suggestions above so hopefully one of them will turn something up! Thank you so much for all your help and thoughts, all massively appreciated!! Beth x
  3. Hello! I'm trying to put together a memory book for my husband's nan for her 90th birthday. I have a fair amount of information and some great photos but I have a few gaps.. This is nothing to do with East Dulwich I just hoped that someone who may have done this sort of thing before might be able to help me! The main gap I'm trying to fill is this. In the 70's she ran a shop in Radstock, Wiltshire. It was a haberdashers and school uniform shop. I have the address (10 Fortescue Road, Radstock) and have looked on google maps to find that it is now called Cottle's. My question is this: Does anyone know how I would go about finding out what the shop was called in the 70's when she ran it? I've been googling furiously for a while but to no great avail. I know the sorts of places I think I should probably be looking.. Wiltshire Council website I guess.. But what is it I'm actually looking for? I feel like I'm not really googling the right things because I'm not getting very far in my search! I'm also sure I'll have to pay to obtain the information but don't want to do it if it's too pricey as really this little piece of information is a small part of her memory book.. I just thought it would be nice and I thought I'd at least try! Any pointers would be very gratefully received! But I appreciate it's a bit of an odd request.. I have my fingers crossed though! Beth x Edited to add.. I have just found out via Ancestry.co.uk that she was at this address in 1985.. so more like the 80's than the 70's.. The search continues!! x

  7. Hello!! I recently used Elly Allen.. http://www.ellyallen.com/gallery/cushions-curtains/ I needed exactly what you're after - floor length blackout bay window curtains :) She's local and great! Highly recommend! Beth
  8. Hello!! I needed a pair of floor-length curtains for a bay window. I got a few quotes and even considered doing them myself / having a friend do them for me. But in the end I asked Elly Allen to make them for me - and I'm so glad I did!! I am absolutely delighted with my curtains! The whole experience was great and totally stress-free. I highly recommend Elly - a lovely person and a brilliant curtain maker!! Thank you Elly! Beth x
  9. Hello! I would just like to say that I thoroughly recommend Liam. He takes beautiful photographs and is a really lovely person as well, which I think is really important with this kind of thing! You gotta feel relaxed! Brilliant :) Beth
  10. Another recommendation for Nerris here! Great price, great job, punctual and a quick worker! Thanks Nerris.
  11. Hello! We recently moved to West Norwood from Herne Hill as we have recently had a baby (now 14 months) and could buy for our money. It definitely doesn't quite have the same feel to it as East Dulwich but I really really feel it's going in the right direction. Last month saw the first West Norwood Feast which was just lovely. Website below and photo link below (not my photos I hasten to add, but all for public viewing!). It's on the first Sunday of every month :) http://westnorwood.spacemakers.org.uk/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/heygwells/sets/72157626418469534/ The high street isn't as 'independent' as ED but the area as a whole is coming along quite nicely. There isn't the same amount of cafe shops and family friendly pubs as there are in ED but who knows, maybe they'll come along soon. I'm on a road parallel to St Julians Farm Road where apparently there is a good school (we haven't quite got to the stage of looking yet but it's good to know!). It's so quiet on our road, which I really wasn't expecting to the same degree as we had on Burbage Road in Herne Hill. Really peaceful :) I guess like with anywhere there are nice and not so nice parts, so I'd have a good look around before you make a decision. But we are really happy here, have some lovely neighbours, and still head to East Dulwich and Herne Hill when I want and need, it's not far!!! Hope this helps :)
  12. Wonderful! Thank you for all your advice! I shall go cellophane-shopping today!! Beth x
  13. .. in East Dulwich? I'm making chocolate truffles as little stocking fillers and was hoping to get some sheets of cellophane to use with ribbon to create little bags. I've left it quite late to be worrying about cellophane, especially as I have very little free time between now and Christmas! But if anyone knows of anywhere in East Dulwich that stocks it, I would be very grateful if they could let me know!! Many thanks in advance and anticipation! Beth :)
  14. I just have to say that I still think that this is a great forum. I never post in the Lounge but I do use the forum for everything else it was intended for: information of what's on in the area.. finding a recommended local business.. passing on items.. picking up unwanted items.. as a new mum, getting advice from the family section.. and as a local business, picking up new clients when my existing clients recommend me. Admittedly I read a lot more than I post. But I think to say that the forum sucks is a little unfair. This post sucks. And perhaps regular lounge-posters feel the forum has changed / that it sucks / that it isn't what it used to be.. But for me, and I think many many more, the forum is still brilliant for many many things. I don't think Admin should feel sad or bad for that. xx
  15. Hello! First of all, thanks Echo for the recommendation!! Secondly, just a quick low-down on my situation.. I'll be training clients til mid-January and then will be stopping to have my baby (due 2nd February!). I'll then take a little time off but will start back with day-time post-natal (or baby friendly!) clients. I will start back full time with all clients later on in the year. If anyone has any questions or wonderings about training now or in the future then do let me know! My website is www.bee-healthy.co.uk and my email is [email protected]. Healthy regards, Beth :)
  16. Mockney Piers.. Gross Point Blank?
  17. Hello! I think it's definitely worth contesting if there were no clear signs! I recently got a ticket in Westminster where I thought I had parked legally. Part of the road was permit only, and the other part was pay and display. The white line dividing the two areas had worn away and so wasn't visible. I thought I was parking in the pay and display area but when I returned to my car there was a parking fine on my windscreen. The fine stated that I'd parked in a permit only bay. I was quite ready to pay immediately - assuming that I was in the wrong and deserved the fine. My boyfriend however thought we should dispute it as the bays were really not clearly marked. So against my will, I let him do it. He took photos of the unclearly marked bay and the signs and sent an email to the council with the photos attached. The fine was overturned and an apology letter was sent to us. Definitely worth it on that occasion and it sounds like it'd be worth it for you too! Good luck! :)
  18. Absolutely! I'm just glad there aren't too many possibilities otherwise I'd be spending the afternoon running up Lordship Lane checking all potential coffee shops!!! Thanks again :)
  19. Thanks Heidi! She definitely said Lordship Lane so I'm going to go for the Cafe Nero.. fingers crossed!!
  20. I agree with 'thank goodness'! And thank you very much, I will head to Cafe Nero!
  21. Hello :) I'm supposed to be meeting someone in Costa Coffee on Lordship Lane this afternoon but I've just checked the Costa website to see which end of Lordship Lane it is and it's not coming up with any results! Which leads me to assume there isn't one!! Annoyingly, I only have an email contact for the person I'm meeting.. I've of course emailed them but not entirely sure they'll get my message before we're supposed to meet! So.. I know there's a Cafe Nero at the bottom of Lordship Lane.. Could anyone please tell me if there are any other chain coffee shops on the Lane..? If not I think I'm going to hedge my bets and go to Cafe Nero.. Unless there's a Starbucks I don't know about! Any help / opinions would be gratefully received! Thanks, Beth :)
  22. Hello :) I'm wondering if any of you know of, or are involved in a Charity that might benefit a good sized television (screen is 26") in perfect working order. We have recently purchased a new one and would like the old one to go to a good home.. I was thinking maybe if there's a kids youth club.. or a home for the elderly.. or a homeless drop-in centre.. or something similar where there might be a common room in need of a tv...... then this would be a good place for my old telly to set up a new home! I'm quite new to Dulwich so not yet aware of what there is in this area! I'm not sure if I've posted this on the right board.. apologies if I have not! Many thanks and I look forward to hearing any ideas! Kind regards, Beth :)
