  1. My experience of Micralite is that theyhave fab customer service - they upgraded parts of mine for free at the Baby Show years ago. I'd co tact them, explain what happened & fingers crossed they will be kind. I'm really sorry this happened to you, stuff like this can be really upsetting, especially when you are pregnant when things seem to play on your mind lot more. I agree with others, don't think you should pursue the woman who did it, though I wish you could.
  2. Just wondering if anyone has the latest on what is going on up there? Many thanks.
  3. The one I bought was about ?30. It's only little. As long as it has a thermostat I dont think it matters much. Actually mine was from B&Q model no NY10EN-5L 1000 watt Hope they helps.
  4. Yes, oil filled rad with a thermostat from Argos. Can be on a timer switch so only operational at night. That's how I kept my babies rooms at an ambient temp all night in winter.
  5. We kept a book for each child. Just bought a nice blank note book & then wrote in it during pregnancy, stuck scan pictures & bump pictures in along with a copy of birth notes. After they were born family, friends & midwives wrote little messages in & we try to record little funny moments, phrases etc - not all of them but those we can. We also try to remember to write in them each birthday. The 7 year olds is rarely written in now but still doing a lot for our nearly 3 year old. I love going back & reminding myself of stuff I've long forgotten from my first pregnancy & early motherhood. I read a passage to my 7 year old the other day & we were both laughing our heads off & then quite emotional over some bits. I'd say start one now, it's never too late.
  6. Agree with what others have said. If you can manage a holiday where you will have daily exposure to a pool for a couple of weeks this can be a great way to build confidence. Both my girls have made huge leaps forward thanks to spending hours each day in & out of the water on summer holidays. It's actually saved us a fortune in swimming lessons I have to say. Zoggs make some good swimming aids - the little discs (look like flying saucers) that you blow through the water are good - they encourage them to put their faces in the water & blow, the aim being to make the saucer flip over. I think I'd leave the lessons for now & just focus on swimming at least once a week with him just for fun - take toys - boats, ducks, an inflable ring, whatever & hopefully he will forget his fears in time. Good luck.
  7. Random post of the day award goes to Pamina. LOL. Saffron, I'm seriously relieved you replied as I thought I was going mad for a moment there.
  8. Agree - try a Motherease Wrap over the top. Make sure you get the right size for weight of your baby.
  9. BC Bikes - Goose Green. Xx
  10. Might be worth leaving a note at the cafe too??
  11. Sanity girl, I had a similar issue upstairs & used half Of a Babydan playpen opened up & with the gate as the centre panel. Would that work for you?
  12. Fancy dress, mad mums night out....oh yes. Snigger.
  13. Hi Kate Your best bet is a 3 wheeler with big wheels & good ground clearance. A fixed (or option to lock) the front wheel would help too as fixed is better on very rough ground. Your reference to a 'pod' suggests the Phil & Teds which would work better than some high street buggys, but with 2 children I hear it's very heavy & ground clearance would be dreadful. You'd better off with new baby in a sling I think, then older child walking when baby gets too heavy to carry - but that depends on age gap of course, & how good a walker your oldest is. We walk a lot & from 2.5 I find they can be pretty good but speed is frustrating, plus they have to be in the mood for it. From about 4 on it's better & my eldest at 6 managed brilliantly up in Derbyshire, it was a joy. There are a lot of 3 wheel sports type buggys on eBay, search all terrain or jogging buggy. They go for quite reasonable prices as a rule so I'd take a look on there - I like ones that have a bicycle type brake on the handle, handy on hills though not essential. I like the look of the Jeep Overland buggy in yellow, but plenty of other options, oh & some have solid tyres that can't get punctures - a good plan if off roading a lot. Check out Mountain Buggys too, solid & well made but not cheap. Good suspension on the true off road versions which makes for a smooth ride, nice not to see baby's head getting thrown in all directions!
  14. She's always like it WOD, but worse when it's hot of course. Even in winter she will be over hot in my view but it's clearly fairly common. Can't help re the vinegar pillows, I guess it's just a strange sweaty smell?
  15. My Dad used to wedge a flame gun (attached to a gas canister) in the bottom of the parkray stove to get it going - for an hour or so while he went down the field to milk the goats. Found out years later he didn't believe in home insurance & no one had smoke alarms back then. I'd sit there watching TV with the thing roaring away a few feet away. Then, down the previously mentioned field there was the remains of a huge old barn made of corrugated iron panels which were leant against a fence - my friends & I used to slide down them to my parents cry of "do be careful of the sharp rusty edges darlings".... And, blimey just remembered riding back home perched on top of 50 odd hay bales stacked on top of a trailer pulled by a tractor.... 20 minutes down country lanes & an A road. Jeez it's a wonder I made it to adulthood really now I think about it!
  16. Yep, it's Slipping through my fingers for me too - cannot listen to it, or watch the film Mamma Mia without blubbing. My 7 year old now puts it on jus to watch my reaction, she giggles but then throws her arms around me & says she's never going to leave me - waaahhhhh! I'm pretty soppy at the best of times but that song definitely gets me worst of all.
  17. My eldest is always boiling - wet with sweat at night. She has the lightest weight duvet - 1 tog & I've just shaken it down so she's really just under a sheet. Do others have experience of this - do they grow out of it? She is 7 now & has been this way for as long as I remember. Surely it can't be good to sleep so hot?
  18. Of course they (companies like amber pumpkin) recommend not to leave them on overnight, because they have to cover themselves. It is up to every parent what they choose to do. After lots of consideration, and seeing my daughter wear the necklace for several weeks, AND knowing others left theirs on all the time, AND looking for any reference on line for a child ever having had a problem wearing one overnight, AND knowing that I myself wear a much finer type of chain every single night and have never, ever woken up to find it tight/twisted around my neck, I chose to leave it on all the time. Im this day and age of media hype you can bet your bottom dollar there would be plenty of press coverage of these necklaces being dangerous if a child had worn one at night with adverse effects. The necklace is quite short, and made in such a way that it does not easy get twisted. The screw thread clasp breaks easily if pressure is put upon it as a safety measure (my older child wore one that was pulled off and broken by another child whilst they were playing), and each bead is individually knotted, so if the actual thread broke only one tiny bead would be loose. So, my decision, not made lightly, or because I'm intrinsically a bad parent (or hippy dippy/whatever). Quite honestly I think there are plenty of things around that are potentially way more dangerous to a baby or toddler, that we expose them to all the time - hot drinks, door hinges (google statistics for finger amputations on children caused by doors every year in the UK), chemicals in the home, smoke from cigarette, traffic.... we all deal with these dangers in our own way as best we can, what we can't do is wrap our children in cotton wool (though I sometimes wish I could).
  19. Birth pool in a box for us was great, but it is the only one I have tried so can't comment on others. You buy anew sterile liner for them so worth picking the pool up second hand, or even borrow one if you can!
  20. Hmmm, I think there are some things in life that are beyond logic or scientific explanation & given these necklaces cost so little I'm very happy to 'go with it'. Plenty to gain & nothing to loose - at worse as snowboarder says - you end up with a nice necklace. My first didn't wear one & cutting her molars was agony, my 2nd cut almost all her teeth without any real problems at all.
  21. Good luck latestarter, plenty of us on here will be rooting for you. Xx
  22. Sillywoman....shame on you....you know very well that the people of Nunhead are exceptionally nice. ;-) PeckhamRose, I am delighted you enjoyed your expedition to my neck of the woods....well almost...sounds like you didn't venture out of the gates on the Limesford Rd side, we are even friendlier here! Tea anyone? Xxx
  23. Jenny, My youngest wore hers from about 8 weeks old to now (3 next month) - I'm so used to her wearing it she looks odd without it! I used to take it off at first for naps but then forgot a few times so from around 3 months onwards she wore it 24/7. If you know where she is cutting teeth (probably not now but you will later with molars etc) I'd recommend Anbesol liquid too - it is a non systemic, topical anaesthetic, you just get a dab on your finger & rub it on the gum & it gives instant relief. When things get really bad you can use it with Calprofen etc safely too. I once had a chemist refuse to sell it to me for use on a baby, but the ins ructions actually refer to how to use on infants & a doctor confirmed to me it's fine, so don't be afraid to use it. I think the Amber helps, especially with the ongoing ? Are they teething or not times? Which seem to go on & on as I recall..... but cutting teeth is PAINFUL, so I wholeheartedly believe in using the medication that is available to us when they really need it. Molly X
  24. Snigger. Snowboarder you always make me feel so much better about my obsessions! Xxx
