  1. Hello all, Following on from our 2018 book, "Today South London, Tomorrow South London", we are planning a new book with Unbound (mainly to get back on the literary festival gravy train of free wine and canapes). Many on here were kind enough to contribute to the funder for that book and reserve an advance copy. And we are now back, cap in hand, to suggest you might support us again, so we don't have to get proper jobs. You can read all about our new book here: https://unbound.com/books/desertertwo/ Entitled, "Shirk, Rest and Play" it is a valuable self-help guide for coping with the modern world. And if you are minded to pledge for a copy, it would be greatly appreciated. You would help make the book a reality and also live forever, in a way, since your name would appear in the book. Probably better than actually living forever, to be honest. Love and pints, Raider PS "Today South London, Tomorrow South London" is still in print and makes an excellent Christmas present for the South Londoner in your life. Order from your local bookshop! ;)
  2. Apologies if anyone has had trouble getting their hands on a copy - incredibly, the first print run disappeared in days and then Amazon hoovered up all of the second. At this rate I'll be making my offer to buy Dulwich College sooner than expected. I plan to turn it into a massive pub with dancing, water slides and everything. The third print run is in shops now (and available online - read some reviews here: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Today-South-London-Tomorrow/dp/1912618745/ref=tmm_pap_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=&sr=). 4. TODAY SOUTH LONDON, TOMORROW SOUTH LONDON Hello everyone, Some of you may know me from my occasional posts on here pointing to local-interest pieces I have contributed to Deserter. Well, I'm happy to announce that we now have a book out featuring some of these tales, plus lots of new material that our publisher absolutely insisted we write. Described by one Amazon reviewer as "Fear and Loathing meets The Good Beer Guide", it is a celebration of the glorious South and its inhabitants. Part guide, part travelogue, part never-ending pub crawl, it has been chosen as one of the Evening Standard's Best Comedy Books of 2018: https://www.standard.co.uk/shopping/esbest/books-dvds/best-comedy-books-and-dvds-of-2018-a4010706.html?fbclid=IwAR1GxXp3VwbCei5UFYR58BUwygM7H-LZDp2ExsYv-mqkZ9Ux_RJKQ0ieruQ Dare I suggest it would make an ideal Christmas present for the slacking booze-hound in your life? We all know one. And it's usually us. More information on TODAY SOUTH LONDON, TOMORROW SOUTH LONDON here: https://deserter.co.uk/2018/11/today-south-london-tomorrow-south-london/ Thanks for reading, TDR PS: If you do decide to treat yourself or a loved one to a copy, please consider supporting your local bookshop by buying or ordering through them.
  5. The FA Trophy game on December 15th is now confirmed as an away fixture so it is confirmed... The first DHFC game back at Champion Hill will be on Boxing Day, 3pm. Look forward to seeing old friends and new. TDR
  6. Hello all, I thought you might be interested in my latest piece of public service reportage for Deserter. At vast physical expense to myself, I visited every Spoons with an SE postcode and lived to tell the tale. As you will see, my favourites are not too far from East Dulwich. Are they yours too? https://deserter.co.uk/2018/10/all-se-londons-wetherspoons-ranked/ Best, TDR
  7. Well! We have hit 60% of our funding target for the book. A massive thank you to everyone who has pledged so far. And there's still room for a few more ;) As an added bonus, I have penned a few words on my writing process, which you can find here: https://unbound.com/books/deserter/updates/how-i-write Barman! 8. Greetings all, You may know me from my occasional posts regarding the louche and booze-sodden stories of South London, as featured on https://deserter.co.uk/ Now a publisher, Unbound, has agreed to publish a book by us, "Today South London, Tomorrow South London". You can read all about it here: https://unbound.com/books/deserter/ Plus, if you're feeling flush, you can pledge and be part of slacker literary history. Seize the day after tomorrow! TDR

  14. That's great, edhistory! Thanks for posting. Looks a sturdy building - apparently the bomb landed 100 yards away from it and still demolished it, so it must have been some bomb. TDR
  15. Thanks Rendel and Alan. No pics of the original Alleyns Head but I did find this page about V1 and v2 bombs in the area and a photo of the damage where Park Hall Road and Croxted Road meet (now the 'new' shopping parade) http://www.flyingbombsandrockets.com/V1_summary_dulwich.html TDR
  16. Hi all, Here's a little thing I wrote for Deserter about a lost afternoon in West Dulwich. http://deserter.co.uk/2016/11/love-and-death-in-west-dulwich/ (There are some swears) One thing I couldn't unearth was a photo of the original Alleyns Head. If anyone has one, I'd love to see it. TDR

  18. Hi all, I wrote up a recent local record shop crawl for Deserter, with some reminiscences about Bowie, Kate Bush, The House of Love and the death of a rock star: http://deserter.co.uk/2016/10/vinyl-frontier/ (Some swearing!) TDR
  19. The Pitchero site is working for me: http://www.pitchero.com/clubs/dulwichhamlet/teams/56196/fixtures-results But if that's the one you're having trouble with, the fixtures are also here: http://int.soccerway.com/teams/england/dulwich-hamlet-fc/4889/ TDR
  20. Should probably have posted this link in here instead of starting a new Lounge thread, but I'm an idiot: 21 Reasons to Vote Leave http://deserter.co.uk/2016/06/eu-referendump-20-reasons-to-vote-leave/ (some swearing) TDR

  22. Did you know that south London once had S postcodes as well as SE and SW? I went on a pub crawl to find out more... http://deserter.co.uk/2016/04/looking-for-south-london/ TDR
