  1. Thanks Ianr. Sue, am I right in understanding that you play gigs at DHFC and presumably some of the venues owned by the fella who owns the Victoria Inn and Actress? Strange that you are often defending/promoting them... Not to jump into yours and DJKQ's row but you did suggest it was too hot in the summer to have the windows closed at gigs on the noise pollution thread where Nick argued that black was white for a while. DHFC are hopeless neighbours and supporting them as a community club only applies if they act like members of the community. A *charitable* explanation is that they didn't understand their licence when it came to the hours they could serve alcohol. Confusion over minors' access to alcohol and understanding what a closed shutter looks like are harder to explain away.
  2. Thanks James, appreciate it, the junction is really dangerous (and busy). I'll look up the boundaries and email the right councillors too. Couldn't you could get the traffic light sequencing through a FoI request?
  3. I'm sorry I haven't checked the ward boundaries (or read back through this thread, I can't believe it hasn't been mentioned before) but is the junction of East Dulwich Road and Peckham Rye on your patch? When driving along East Dulwich Road (towards Nunhead) and turning right onto Peckham Rye the traffic lights are seriously badly sequenced. (You will recall there was a pedestrian fatality there a while ago there.) The amount of time allowed for cars to turn right is often not long enough for even one car to get through. As a result one almost always has to turn right as the light turns red or very quickly before the traffic starts to come from the other direction. This is really unsafe for the driver and pedestrians crossing by the Rye. Any info appreciated...thanks.
  4. "This shop will just be good en people wanting to grab a couple of beers on their way home at gone 2 in the morning." That's some pretty quick and dirty market research you've done. The only customers after 2am will be people who want to buy a couple of beers on their way home? Are you talking about the entire customer base or perhaps how you would use the shop? Because there are also people who drink in their homes, people who drink before 2am, people who want a special brew or 2 to warm up or because they're alcoholics, the clientele wandering leathered out of The Vale, the people in the chicken shop across the road who might decide they want some more booze and get in a fight about a spilt kebab and lots of other potential customers. "Fair play to them for applying for the license, most places just do it." Do you believe that most places (which serve alcohol?) work outside of their licence or in the absence of one? The penalty for that is up to 6 months in prison and a ?20,000 fine.
  5. Oh great - *nimby statement coming up* - this would move the asbo crowd away from the illegal drinking den that is Kebab and Wine and closer to my house.
  6. That's a shame, he's a nice man but he wasn't enough to keep me at Melbourne Grove Medical Centre. Having vowed never to venture into the awful, patient-hating place again, I went with a friend who was unwell 3 weeks ago to sit in reception. There was a woman pleading politely with the nasty receptionist ("I've been trying to register for a fortnight, I've really been messed around...") and the response was like a Little Britain sketch. I moved to DMC, not perfect and a little further away for me but it's much, much better.
  7. The Manager of the store has offered to meet with me to discuss their plans for the park and the park's problems (the rats living in the dense hedges, the non-opening of gates on a Sunday, I could go on) after my complaints to Sainsbury's HQ. I haven't arranged the date yet but if you want to join me please PM me andI'll try to arrange. I know from my complaint that Veronica Ward and Stephen Govier (the 2 local councillors) have separately met with the Manager and have been in discussion with the Sainsbury's CEO too. I want to keep the pressure on them as I think the rodent thing is getting worse - now my elderly neighbour is frightened to walk up Abbotswood Rd as she's scared of them!
  8. We were given this one from Fisher Price (http://www.fisher-price.com/fp.aspx?st=132001&e=detail&selcat=bgb&pid=53161). It was without a doubt the best thing we got for Baby Candp and well worth the ?40 my sister paid for it. When she was smaller (used from birth) we took the toy bar off and she used to fall asleep in it. Now she loves to rock it and grab the toys months later. It's less easy on the eye than the Baby Bjorn one but I wouldn't swap it for any other.
  9. His photo is still on a poster outside the station which bills him as Manager.
  10. Louisiana that is a genius idea. We can call SLP & head to Sainsbury's Rat Park with a sign and people dressed in rat costumes. We can offer up for interview a few photogenic children in their bugaboos, shaking with fear at the thought of contracting rat-bite fever, accompanied by their parents who will vow to only use Ocado (or Tesco Express if desperate) from here on in... Sue, I think we expect different standards from our public spaces so will have to agree to disagree. Whilst I'm not hoping for a Britain in Bloom entry, in answer to your question 'who is going to pay for the planting and maintenance' - I understand that Sainsbury's are responsible for the park and that store looks pretty profitable to me. I'm sure many people on this forum spend hundreds, if not thousands, of pounds a year there. I know I definitely spend thousands as I now have enough nectar points to buy a punnet of grapes and a small twix.
  11. Sue - the park in front of Sainsbury's with the rats, the mugging, the litter and where the lighting is non-existent and which generally engenders (in me and some of my non-wimpy friends) a sense of foreboding when walking along Abbotswood Road listening to the yoofs who have hopped the gates at night or across the park at any time when it is quiet. I grant you that the grass is cut and the trees pruned if that counts as care but it could be significantly improved.
  12. Can't wait for the Sainsbury's rat park fete - perhaps we can also play catch the asbo. In answer to your question sophiesofa, I emailed Sainsbury's head office (in case they are unaware of the situation) and the store about the state of this park, which I think is a disgrace and a dereliction of their responsibilities, at [email protected] & [email protected]. In cc I included Veronica Ward and Harriet Harman as the local councillor and MP for the store - as this is an ongoing issue - and [email protected] as the Director responsible for community relations. If anyone would like to see a copy of what I sent please pm me.
  13. V interesting DJKQ, thanks. I think the cctv they're required to have would make interesting viewing for a licensing officer. Perhaps they've found some way round the rules with the drink tokens (clearly ancillary to any meal) but god knows where they found that invisible doorman.
  14. Keef and Sean, is this true? Well then Sean, perhaps you're right and I'd rather someone looked at Kebab & Wine's adherence to the law and licensing rules. But the drinkers were directly outside the shop and popping (well more sort of staggering) in and out of it, rather than just standing somewhere nearby. If they'd been drinking directly outside Black Cherry or Adventure and behaved as aggressively I think the bouncers would have moved them on.
  15. Does anyone know if a kebab shop could be made to get security as part of their licence? I was stood near Kebab & Wine (the kebab shop next to Black Cherry), chatting to a couple of friends a few Saturdays ago, minding our own business after a night out. Now admittedly this was around 3am. But whatever the time was, we did not deserve to have full cans of G&T (posh larger louts in SE22!) thrown at us, nor be on the receiving end of a barrage of unwarranted and really nasty and misogynistic name-calling. There were at least 20 drinkers stood on Lordship Lane outside the kebab shop and, although I don't know if they were buying their booze in the kebab shop or across the road at the Payless corner shop, they were clearly settling-in for a drink there instead of buying their burgers, having a quick fight or vomit and moving on.
  16. - Your youthful body can survive on super noodles and booze for weeks but take a vitamin supplement just to help it along.
  17. Let me find an example, right, you made a political point here: "Seems to have slipped by a month since the May elections. Releived (sic) that project so far progressed that this flagship Lib Dem project will be finished." Then when it is observed you have made a political point you stand back and say "Moi? Political? I just want to serve the community", as is exquisitely demonstrated in the post above. Whilst I admire your presence on the EDF and you undertaking casework here, let's not pretend that you aren't out to get votes and to occasionally - shock horror - undermine your opponents. I do like the implication in your "at best unkind" comment, you are subtle but good in your innuendos. Be assured that if I had been unkind you'd have known about it. Now back to the pool, September it is. I'll be pleased when I finally get in there.
  18. Cllr Barber presided over a significant delay in the baths refurbishment, a portion of the delay was only revealed to him via a receptionist's comments in this thread!! But now he has no responsibility he is making political points over it, which I can't bee bothered with I just want to go swimming. He has obviously been reading his Effective Opposition Lib Dem handbook (http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/blog/2009/feb/03/lib-dems-elections). Now, when exactly are these baths reopening??
  19. Today I got an email from Orange that is enough to send me into the arms of AN Other mobile provider. If it wasn't for that pesky 87 year contract (well, ok, 18 months then). They confirm they're doing maintenance but not when it'll finish. I'm still having problems with my reception but I guess I'll wait till 17 July before asking again about their work around East Dulwich. Grr. Thank you for your email regarding coverage in the SE22 area. We are currently experiencing a large number of queries that have caused a back log of emails, making it very difficult for us to respond to you in a timely manner. Please accept my apologies for the lack of response and the delay you have experienced. I am also sorry to learn you have been experiencing coverage problems. Please accept my apologies for any inconvenience caused. I can confirm that maintenance work is being carried out and trust that normal service will be restored as quickly as possible. I can advise the network and services may from time to time require upgrading, modification, maintenance or other works. This may result in some or all of the services becoming temporarily unavailable. In such cases, we will do everything we can to keep the period of non-availability to a minimum. However, some interruption may be inevitable. Orange are committed to improving the network, with numerous sites planned to be installed across the UK. You may if you wish visit the Orange website at www.orange.co.uk and view under coverage.
  20. Thanks Sally81 - that's annoying news but v helpful and interesting to know. I've disabled 3G and the signal has come back intermittently. I called Orange today but after listening to "Because of the success of the IPhone 4 there might be a slight delay in answering your call" for 7 minutes I gave up & emailed them - doubt I'll get a response but in my frustration I felt better. If you want to complain link is here: http://help.orange.co.uk/orangeuk/support/personal/contacting_us/paym
  21. I've had almost no signal on Orange (have an older iphone) since yesterday evening. I went up to Kings earlier and a lot of messages came through then but back home (near Sainsbury's) and still getting the no service message. Deeply annoying!
  22. Me too; I'm just impatient! July 1 or July 31? 2010 or 2011?
  23. Lovely. Very quiet, good neighbours, very close to the station (perhaps 5 minutes for me) and pretty handy for Sainsbury's.
