  1. Drink taken. Better. Back on topic.. Point is, the passenger on the 40 this morning did complain politely. And it ended in tears. Or at least broken windows. Actually, that?s not the point. Nero is right. It is about values. And I do think we need to tackle the mindless macho driving that is making getting around, by any means, downright unpleasant and dangerous.
  2. Dunno about that. If you take class to mean ?relationship to the means of production? and what else could it mean, then that?s an issue wherever. Even on the 40 bus (and that probably won?t save us form the lounge) . Off for a drink now?
  3. "The history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles." The Communist Manifesto (1848) And if that doesn't get us sent to the lounge...
  4. On toast - with honey....
  5. Yup, but creative industries don?t usually involve pissed-up arrogant a-holes who don?t want to pay. Although, actually, thinking about my time as an account handler a long, long time ago....?.

Yup. Agree with all of that.
  7. (I will calm down now and not smash any windows. ):-$

No. Think it was the driver. From what I heard he lost his rag because the passenger said he was going to complain. Not going to say anything with certainty because I suspect this may end up in court. Except, it was, I think, the driver who smashed the window. It was certainly the driver who was being aggressive. And I don?t think aggression, whatever the cause, and driving a bus full of people is a good combination.
  10. No. Think it was the driver. From what I heard he lost his rag because the passenger said he was going to complain. Not going to say anything with certainty because I suspect this may end up in court.
  11. I was on the 40 bus this morning. While we travelled down Lordship Lane, someone was expressing his unhappiness with the driver. Seems the driver sped off from the stop sending the passenger?s small child flying. Anyway ? by the time we reached East D station, the bus had stopped, voices were raised and, eventually, windows smashed and police called. Think I?ll start cycling again. But seriously, it worries me that drivers are so stressed / aggressive when they have people?s well-being in their hands.
  12. Yes, can watch one thing and record another. Can also record two different things at the same time. That is, if you can find two things you want to record.... Think it has three tunners.
  13. I?ve got a Virgin Plus. Had to fight with them about not wanting to pay extra because I don?t want a second box elsewhere in flat. But won after emailing various senior execs (An old trick ? usually works ? start with marketing) Easy to use, much the same as old Sky Plus Box. Agree with CWLD and Lady re output. Its all rubbish, and I both resent and hate all things Murdock ? but need, and I do mean need, Sky sports. That?s what addiction is like. Also, the catch up TV and films on demand are good.
  14. Ha! I will never be able to look at it again without thinking that...
  15. Awwww, Snorks, not anti you at all. You?re one of the reasons I read this site!
  16. Yup, Lidle cola and paprike crisps never did Snorks any harm, apparently? Any thoughts re diversions for a bored 13 year old boy appreciated.

    Food

Yup, try to avoid supermarkets but sometimes fail, go to Sainsbury?s and feel cross with myself.. Much happier foraging in Lordships Lane. Have heard too many stories about what goes into prepared foods to fancy eating one. Grow veg, mainly ?cos its fun. And really fresh picked sweet corn tastes like nothing else. And agree about sitting at a table. Except for home made popcorn which has to be eaten watching a film or Ugly Betty and spilt down the back of a sofa.
  18. Cycling down Crystal Palace Road this morning I saw a small fleet of DVLC vehicles clamping some cars and lifting others away, presumably because they had no tax disks. Suspect someone out there may be wondering where his or her pride and joy is tonight?.
  19. I?m not taking this lightly. I?m no spring chicken and did once end up in hospital after a particularly unpleasant person set about me with a Stanley knife. That was, however, some 30 years ago. It made me nervous about going out at night for a while but that wore off in time. That was in North London. The only other time I?ve had someone take a swing at me was in a Fish and Chip shop in Winchester, for F sake. So that?s twice in getting on for fifty years of going where I want, when I want and probably not taking all the sensible precautions I ought to*. I think my point is, its not that common and it is too easy to start people panicking, and that makes things worse. So, I?m the balding, knackered looking, bloke cycling through the park and will continue to do so. I will take care and, if something feels wrong I?ll be the balding ,knackered looking, bloke cycling in the other direction. Obey your gut instincts but lets not panic. *Actually, I suspect my parents kept me under so sort of control for a few years. Make that four decades.
  20. This thread works! I used to walk past Val's. Went in today. Good quality veg, very friendly, and Nisha promised to start stocking Masala Tea for me. Thanks to everyone who recommended it. I will now be in two or three times a week. Honorable mention to Plough DIY as well. Most tolerant and knowledgeable DIY shop I?ve ever known.
  21. Excellent thread. Thanks to Bawdy for starting it. I also use the old canal path on my way to London Bridge. All sympathies to Pierre re the assault, but that is no reason for people to stop using the route. In fact it is an argument for more people to use it more often. Busy streets are safe streets. If we start accepting no go areas we will end up in cities full of bland middle class ghettos behind locked gates surrounded by wastelands where the rest of us live.
  22. I remember reading elsewhere on the forum that there may be plans to stop allocating schools according to catchment area and use a ballot instead. Wonder if anyone has considered the car use / parking implications of this. Have never met someone who lives in a CPZ who is happy with it. Disaster prone in terms of rules not being properly applied and displacing the problem to elsewhere.
  23. Yes, and moving. We caught it under a glass. But this was six months ago, they were apologetic, if not quiet as apoplectic I was would have liked, and did pay for our wine. Hope it has been sorted. Would appreciate any reassurance from recent dinners.
  24. Used to really like Franklins, especially sitting at the bar with a beer and a plate of potted shrimps. But back in November I went there for a full meal to celebrate a birthday and found a cockroach on the table. They apologised, paid for the wine and promised the cockroach problem would be sorted. Have never really fancied going back.
