  1. Back to the thoughts on the restaurant.... Went there for dinner on Saturday I've eaten at its Covent Garden sister a lot (opposite my office) and love it. The penny didn't drop that its the same people until I saw things on the menu that I recognised (the same name wasn't obvious enough for me) I was a little underwhelmed. Prices and menu the same as the west end one, but just didn't seem to be prepared with the same love. I also think that the portions were smaller - could be wrong. Service & atmosphere lovely. Small plates format. We had 6-7 between 4 All in all - a nice place to have a drink and a board of charcuterie- wont rush back for a full dinner.

  3. Jeees - that was loud yesterday. Couldn't sit in the garden (Trossachs/Thorncombe Road) I didn't go over and see what was happening yesterday, but I saw them setting up for something similar the previous week (10 Sept) when I was out walking the dog on Greendale fields. However, it was bucketing down with rain so I guess it was cancelled then. Seriously - whoever at DHFC thought this was a good idea ?
  4. update on my marks for the crown and greyhound Engagement 8/10 - good to see Greg engaging and doing some staff training. In fact, I even got a call from the pub manager last week (although he didn't call back when I told him I couldn't talk at that point). Still, good signs End result 3/10 - popped in last night for a cheeky pint when out walking the dog. Pub very quiet, couple of people at the bar. I gave up after waiting 10 minutes to be served and went home
  5. There are good chains and there are bad chains Equally, there are good independents and bad independents The Half Moon - a really well run pub is a fullers pub. It has its problems but, overall, is a good experience The Victoria in Peckham is run by the Met Pub Company (ultimately part of Green Kings empire) - again, a really nice pub across the board As I said in my orginal post, I visited both of these in their opening weeks and found REALLY well trained staff, a warm welcome and, ultimately, a good experience I love the idea of any independent businesses - and will support them where I can - but chain doesn't necessarily mean its going to be bad
  6. Greg - thanks for engaging here - its a really positive sign I wish you the best of luck in turning the pub around Would love to go back to using it regularly - will give it another few months to let you work your magic first
  7. Have been a couple of times since relaunch. My comments are the same as many others here: very poor service, badly trained staff - just a poorly run pub My attempt to give some feedback (which defiantly wasn't a rant) on twitter wasn't greeted with the usual "thanks for feedback, sorry about poor experience we're working on it" that id expect - they simply blocked my twitter account. This is the thing that really worries me. If that's their response to some criticism and reading comments here and on tripadvisor about the managements lack of accommodating any negative feedback. That greatly worries me as that is a mindset and nothing to do with "bedding in" or teething problems
  8. Generally, East Dulwich is great - a fantastic place to bring up a family EDG - nothing wrong with it, but it is a busy main road. A new 2ndary school is being built on the hospital site, which would be great for you in a few years time, but may cause some disruption in the short-term
  9. That sounds horrible LBsmith73 - I do hope your dog is recovering I find it completely bizarre that a human could be prosecuted for hurting a dog and an owner can be prosecuted if their dog hurts a human, but the police aren't interested if an irresponsible owner lets their dog attack another dog. From what she's said ("I'm having trouble with it") , clearly this woman knows that her dog poses a risk. I see it 100% therefore as her responsibility to ensure her dog cant get into situations like this. If that means a lead & muzzle, so be it dogs are still animals and, to that extent, can be unpredictable. I'm sure there are cases of normally calm dogs getting into fights. But this sounds different. If she knows that something like this may happen and still gets into these situations - to me she is negligent (possibly criminally so)
  10. half on/half off the road, next to a crossing point, outside a school.......
  11. What a nightmare. I suppose, as a private company, RM have no obligation to keep services like this running. Also, my guess is it looks pretty attractive to cut costs like this when there is another pickup point only a couple of miles away (which would be fine in a rural area) Heres an idea: theyre a private company, bothered about their sales & competition. So threaten to boycott them and use alternatives. At work, RM is our last choice for parcels anyway - they are the most unreliable and often the most expensive - theres lots of alternatives for parcels and I often have them collected/delivered SE22 or sent to a collection point (*corner shop). FedEx, Globalexpress,UPS will all either collect or allow you to drop off at corner shops I think, with a little bit of co-ordination here, an entire area threatening to boycott them & use (often unknown competition) would be a great story for, at a minimum, London news. A few stories like that and theyd quickly change their minds
  12. I'll let the pictures do the talking whilst I understand that clamping is a useful tool for untaxed cars, whatever sort of c**kwomble thought it would be a good idea to clamp this car in its current position? Its been there for a couple of weeks I've logged an abandoned vehicle report with Southwark, just waiting for them to come back and tell me that they cant do anything because its been clamped Assuming that is the case. Any suggestions ?
  13. I hope those affected here are all OK Whilst I do understand the polices reluctance to chase people on mopeds, I think the time has come that they changed this policy. My feeling is that this policy is actually driving street criminals towards using a moped - knowing that they wont get chased The police need to stop thinking about this as some form of specialist crime - its not - its criminals using tactics that they know will give them more chance of success Hopefully the double de-incentive of actually getting caught along with potential nasty head injuries would see this behaviour changed overnight
  14. to be fair, I think he's held a mirror up to this area and this forum quite well Broadly speaking I agree with his views on La Bonne Bouffe Would probably still like to punch him though
  15. Went to La Bonne Bouffe for the first time on Saturday. It was chaos as they'd had a problem with their booking system and taken far too many bookings. However, they dealt with it pretty well and placated the ED masses with free bubbly The room is lovely and their formula seems like a really smart idea: simple French bistro dishes, done well. However, IMO, theyre not done anywhere near well enough. If you're going to do the simple (yet pricey) thing, that simple has to be really good - and it was, OK ish. OK terrine, just ok mussels, celeriac remulade (sic?) with nothing else on plate (just too simple for ?7 IMO) Chicken main course just needed to be cooked a few minutes less and they forgot the tarragon - think you get the idea - nearly there - but with nowhere to hide when its this simple I will go back, because I think they're just starting out and the chaos of this weekend probably was reflected in the food. Plus they do seem to pretty passionate. A bit more thought on the food and I think this could become a firm favorite (in a comfy slippers sort of way) , however if they cant deliver on the food it will be one of those places that ED eventually realises they could eat better at home for a lot less fine margins
  16. Full credit to those people who are trying to get some improvements here and I wont criticise anybody for taking the initiative to raise some money to help a really good cause, but............ it makes my blood boil to see this *having* to happen. Really, FFS, has it got to the stage with southwark council where their own residents are having to go out, raise money, in order to come up with a sensible traffic scheme. I hear the word "consultation" thrown around a lot by Southwark - surely, if they were in any way serious about consulting, they should be hearing and acting on issues like this
  17. out of interest @ed_pete - did the council come and remove that stuff ?

Do the lasers do rabbits as well as hairs ? If so, please PM me - I'm interested in finding out more
  19. Wow - you were so impressed that you decided to come and register on this forum to specifically post a message so we could all share in your experiences - that must have been some experience you had.
  20. I agree - this is disgusting To keep it in perspective, I think that theres a very small number of irresponsible dog owners who let this happen. 1 dog = 2 x piles a day (and likely to be on the same route/road) We had this issue on Trossachs Road a couple of years ago. Every morning a fresh mound, somewhere on the street. We worked out it was one person letting it happen. We went the vigilante route of putting up some homemade posters on lampposts, saying it was disgusting, illegal, kids stepped in it,etc and pointing out, if we saw it happening that we would report to the police. It stopped immediately. We could have inadvertently moved it somewhere else, but I'd like to think that we managed to get through to the idiot concerned. Suggest others give this a go

  22. sorry to hear about the incident Yes- that junction is a nighmare. It needs completely simplifying
  23. haven't been yet but my Mrs went yesterday and managed to spend ?25 on some ham, bread rolls, fruit, coleslaw and percey pigs she wasn't happy when I pointed out, with the exception of percey, she could have got that all in co-op, cheaper and wouldn't have walked so far However, she did seem to think that it all tasted better. I disagreed I've always missed the "thing" about M&S food. If one doenst buy ready meals, then to me they seem to offer nothing better than any other small supermarkets. I'm please that so many people are excited about it and have no objection to them being on LL - I just don't get all the fuss
  24. just seen that Alleyns have built porta-cabins on their car park. A neighbour told me its because they're rebuilding some of their buildings Does anybody know where they plan to park their c.30 cars every day whilst this is happening ? [pure, straight forward NIMBY post - I live next to the school]
  25. Hi James Do you know what Southwarks position is in repsect to providing residents (with no off street parking) the facility to charge an electric vehicle close to their home ? I need a new car and REALLY want to go electric. Without a convenient charging point, that's going to be difficult I see a few years ago Southwark proudly claimed it was "leading the way" with charging points [1], but since then has managed a total of 8 [yes, eight] places to charge an electric vehicle across the entire borough [2] Hardly leading the way I also understand that there is a government grant scheme, aimed specifically at dealing with this [3], funded by the office for low emission vehicles - have Southwark signed up to that ? if not, why ? Apprecite that you cant speak for the whole council, but as transport seems to be a big issue for you, I thought you may be interested in this situation.
