Well, Alleyn's acknowledge that they have a problem with transport- hence the proposed 35 different initiatives to reduce car travel - its just I have doubts about their intention to follow through on those initiatives. They are also worried about air quality enough to commission a study - its just I have serious doubts about the conclusions of that study
  2. I have just added further comments to the planning application https://planning.southwark.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=makeComment&keyVal=PYNGQHKBIKR00 It is worth noting that Alleyns are clearly trying to get "technical" here - the recent air quality report and transport plan are there to "scientifically" show how (a) there isn't really a problem (b) increased problems due to expansion will be insignificant/ below acceptable limits and © theyre doing lots to mitigate I don't believe any of that and their air quality report is fundamentally flawed - but theyre playing a legal game around planning laws and using scaring looking reports to show that there is no case to answer. I therefore think that they will use this to try and discount "general" objections around air quality/traffic. I encourage others to look at their new information in detail My comments on planning portal: I would like to add further comments after the publishing of the documents "Air Quality Assessment" (3/1/20) and "Travel Plan" (7/1/20) The air quality assessment has clearly been produced to create a case that the potential increased pollution is insignificant. Its data and method are fundamentally flawed and can not be used to draw the conclusions that the report makes. The use of AURN sites, which (with the exception of SD10) that are on streets that are likely to have zero traffic related to this school or its expansion , to form a baseline, is flawed. The increased pollution would be heavily localised and can only be modelled through use of monitoring sites on roads likely to be affected. This report is scientifically unfit for purpose and should be discounted. It is also worth noting that Southwark is currently (and separately) consulting on other measures to deal with traffic pollution in this area. Results from that consultation show "Air quality profiles shows that pollution concentration is worse in around 7:00-10am and 15:00-19:00 " It also states: "is an extremely high volume of pedestrian traffic at Dulwich Village and at the junction of East Dulwich Grove with Townley Road" I find it ironic that Southwark council see the problem as bad enough to warrant a major, area wide, consultation but this report declares effectively that air pollution is within acceptable limits - when viewed from the context of one of the organisations contributing most to that traffic Travel Plan The travel plan outlines a set of objectives & initiatives to reduce car/taxi journeys by the school- which should be welcomed. However, it is worth noting that any significant reductions from these initiatives are expected to take 5 years. It is also with noting that, out of the 35 initiatives listed to meet these objectives, 32 have their completion date listed as either "ongoing or TBC". This leads me to believe that these initiatives are simply pipe dreams or lip service to the planning authority The local traffic chaos is happening now and will be made worse by these expansion plans. Local residents should not have to wait 5 years for mitigating initiatives to take effect. Any planning permission for expansion of this school, should be only given on the explicit condition that most of these initiatives are in effect BEFORE that expansion happens )
  3. ok, so I've started to get drawn into looking at this in more detail. It looks like they have got Hoare Lea to do an air quality assessment. To paraphrase: theyre saying that the air quality standards in the area aren't above acceptable limits and that the delta from Alleyns expansion isn't significant. Without even reading it in detail, I've already spotted that theyre basing their assessment on data from a range of monitoring sites that are nowhere near the school. I would say that its likely that nobody going to this school passes any of the sites they reference - they may as well used monitoring points in Sunderland. And, from that, they extrapolate that the air quality is fine around Alleyns As I say, this is only from a first pass - my guess is that there is plenty of other twisting of data and false extrapolations going on. Interested to see what others think/find
  4. I have received an email from Southwark planning to say that there is updated information from the applicant for this. I don't time to look in detail this week but, from a first-pass, I *think* that they've got some smart consultants in to say that there's no problem whatsoever with pollution or congestion created by their school Would be interested to read anybodys views who has time to properly understand what theyre doing here https://planning.southwark.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=documents&keyVal=PYNGQHKBIKR00
  5. parking (excuse the pun) the merits and problems of a CPZ for the moment, does anybody know what happens next and when ? i.e. when will be see new lines being painted and permits issued/enforced ? I read somewhere about a formal consultation period - is that whats currently happening ?
  6. yes, I was the first there -poor Flo was so scared - I am so relieved that she is OK, have not been able to stop thinking about her. wishing her a speedy recovery
  7. thanks @yourmomma . If that is the case, then any idea why there isn't even a sign to say so ?
  8. The estate at the end of Thorncombe/ Trossachs Road has a small access road with a dozen or so parking spaces (I am talking about the estate that constitutes Arnhem Way, Velde Way, etc) On Google maps, this road is shown as an extension of Thorncombe Road. The road has an entrance barrier but I have never seen that closed in c.20 years. And there is no sign to say private parking Does anybody know the official status of these parking spaces ? ? are they public road/spaces or are they, in some way, reserved for residents of the estate? I think they are mainly used by estate residents but, I do see people who live in nearby roads (like me) parking there sometimes ?I think many people assume that it is private parking for the estate and don?t use them. The reason I?m interested in this is that I?ve just looked at the plans for the new CPZ. All surrounding roads are to be controlled, but that piece is not covered. If it is actually public parking, Southwark Council may well have dropped a clanger
  9. yesterday (30 December) I saw a terrible accident where a dog was hit by a car just outside the gates of Peckham Rye (near Herne Tavern) She was a greyhound (called Lola I think) If anybody knows the owner, I'd really love to find out how she's doing and to send my best.
  10. I chatted to one of the founders of Char.gy recently (they do some of the lamppost points in Southwark - not the ones on Townley) Informally, he told me that the business model is that they ask councils to jointly fund the installation and then they make their money on the metered electricity. Councils have all got targets around installing more EV charging points, so this model seems to be a reasonable cooperation. In an ideal world, this would be provided directly by the council without a private company putting on their margin, but I don't think councils have got a pot to pee in at the moment. Putting in the infrastructure costs money - that has to be paid for from somewhere The Source chargers are very expensive, much more expensive than the lampposts - I would assume that is because the charging company have to make a larger contribution because the infrastructure is much more significant. By way of reference, it costs me ?2 to charge my PHEV at home, ?4 on a lamppost and ?10 on Townley Road And finally, my POV: more EV charging points are essential - we have to incentivise EV use over petrol/diesel. In a city where most of us dont have driveways, only these type of chargers becoming ubiquitous is going to seriously increase the % of EVs in this city (just go to Amsterdam if you want to see how it should be done). Its a chicken and egg thing - people wont buy EVs unless they know they can charge them. I think its good to see these points going in as it will encourage more people to go electric (I didn't feel I could go fully electric specifically because there weren't enough chargers) And people HAVE to be able to park next to them. People moaning that this means a few parking spaces lost have probably never had that awful feeling of running out of charge in a City with poor EV infrastructure
  11. IMO these are actually some of the BEST streets to live in the area (we've lived Trossachs since 2004) Heres why: - mid way between Lordship Lane and Dulwich Village - sit in the catchment area for DVIS, Dulwich Hamlet and Charter schools (yes, there's lots of other amazing schools in the area now, but these 3 have always been excellent) - quiet streets (yes, bit of a parking problem - being fixed soon) - the houses are deceptively big Maybe because of the schools thing, the streets have always attracted young families and there's been a strong sense of community - we know literally everybody on the street Street parties for both Royal and non royal events Halloween is amazing around here
  12. I do this a lot Even with luggage/family - I find the train easier than sitting in a taxi crawling through south london I usually train from ED > East Croydon> LGW. 45-60 minutes Coming back, I get train to East Croydon then an Uber to pick me up from East Croydon. - 45 mins total The trick is to get Uber to pick you up from back entrance of East Croydon (Dingwall Road) - its much easier for them to get to. You have to use the platform bridge furthest away from the station to find this exit
  13. I walk past Bessemer Grange and have been wondering what the yellow barriers were I think this is a fantastic initiative
  14. just to close this off (and thanks for the advice here) We found all of the documents dumped in hedges, pavement, etc - mainly on Hillsboro Road - with the exception of our 4 passports. We reported them stolen to police and HMPO immediately and are currently going through the joyous & expensive experience of renewing our passports
  15. Woke this morning to find car broken into (Trossachs Road) - stupidly had left a wallet with out 4 x passports and travel docs in the car as we got back late last night from hols We've found most of the documents (EHIC's, travel insurance, etc) scattered along Hillsboro Road with the help of one very kind person found a few pieces The thief must have been walking from Trossachs, along Hillboro discarding things that didn't take his/her interest Still missing are: 4 x passports 2 x EHIC cards If anybody sees any of these lying in a hedge, under a car, etc - please DM me I'm about to report to police, etc - dos anybody know how I can get in touch with the local police people?
  16. OK, if you're still in favour of the, increasingly likely, car crash that is Brexit then no action required here ? I?m not going to try and convince you to change your mind, so lets not open a leave/remain debate. However, if like me you have genuine concerns for the state of this country over the next few years. Or if you are finally starting to realise that this wasn't as simple as you'd been promised. Or the penny has finally dropped that, all things considered, the EU is actually a good thing - then read on. Personally, as a remain voter, I currently feel pretty powerless. Both main political parties seem dedicated to doing something that delivers the ?will of the people? ? at any cost. So, I?m going to the PEOPLES VOTE MARCH on 20th October https://www.peoples-vote.uk/march We'll be going as a family Get along, bring your family, bring some friends and tell others who may also feel the same way as you. Do not sit on the couch and expect it all to be OK. Will a march change anything? Maybe, maybe not ? but at least I will know that I I *tried* to do the right thing. I?ve also put my name down to volunteer to deliver leaflets to encourage others to attend the march. If anybody feels as strongly as me, I?d encourage you also to do the same. Details here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfSJ4zhdcgWNB7hTmakxsHB7_m3444IsIY4HlOnVZ638MbcDQ/viewform If anybody wants to co-ordinate leaflet delivery, please DM me
  17. I can't recommend Trossachs Rd enough - great community spirit, equi-distance from ED and DV, houses slightly bigger than average (terraced) in area, and school catchment Guess the same applies to Tarbart/Glengarry

Anybody going along on the 23rd June ? https://www.open-britain.co.uk/biggest_ever_pro_european_march_to_be_held_on_23rd_june_for_a_people_s_vote
  20. revisited C&G last week - hadn't been in a year and had heard that its got much better No, it hasn't Understaffed clueless staff uncleared tables
  21. Yes - I saw it land after circling over Dulwich for 5 mins - I also was like a 45 year old schoolboy - I now have neckache
  22. Great to see this happening - come on East Dulwich, lets make sure we turn out for this. Dulwich Hamlet is something very special for this area, lets do what we can to help keep it so
  23. "The suggestion that CPZ reduce parking spaces is yet another tired myth in the long list of hyperbole deployed by opponents of the schemes." It isn't. The overall number of available parking spaces will drop. This was certainly the case southwark consulted around ED station a few years ago. The consultation took a count of cars daily in the area (the exercise was done to try and show the number of commuter cars). I cant remember the figures, but there was a significant drop in available parking spaces with the proposed scheme Having said that, of course one of the objectives of a CPZ is to stop "outsiders" parking, which of course may outstrip the overall drop in spaces for the residents
  24. personally, I'm quite enjoying being able to walk to Lordship Lane along a nice ,quiet pedestrian highway Although I'm not enjoying the dozens of cars trying to unsuccessfully cut through Glengarry/Tarbet/Trosschs Roads
  25. 15:30 today, my 14 yr old walking towards ED Man in hoodie and ski mask (approx. 16 years old, 5' 10", black) followed him down EDG and approached him Very subtle MO: tried to engage him by offering him some weed. Then asked to borrow his phone to make a call. 14YO refused to hand it over, man "almost grabbed" (as in he didn't rip it from his hands) it from him and then immediately set about trying to reset it. As 14YO was trying to get it back, man opened his bag to show him 3 x screwdrivers and took one out of the bag 14YO grabbed phone and ran off I know some here will say it could have been someone genuinely wanting to make a call - but I see a very clever MO here: 14YO didn't actually realise to start what was happening, perp then tried to reset phone before he realised and he didn't actually make any direct threats. If it had worked, it would have been down to 14YO to try and grab a phone back that he wouldn't even know the code for and would struggle to prove that its his. And no violence used Its been reported to police, but main reason for posting here is to make people aware that not all muggers are obvious muggers. It made me realise in all the advice we've given to our kids (basically, if theyre threatening you, give them what they want and get away) that we haven't actually talked through this scenario
