  1. Climbing at JAGS has been a popular option for mine - they do different age groups so its pretty sociable and the courses run for a term at a time. You don't need to be a member of the sports club to sign up. If he plays an instrument there is a new band that has recently been set up meeting at the Baptist Church on Amott Road for age 12+ Its called 'Beehive Big Band'. My son hasn't been as the timing hasn't worked out this year but it sounds like it could be good.
  2. Not normal at all - the traffic has been standing the past 2 days and it isn't usually. The temporary lights outside JAGS for roadworks have led to tailbacks westbound from lordship lane right along to JAGS where the road is narrowed to a single carriageway. I'm not sure what the works are for, but hoping they finish soon.
  3. Hilarious. Proper gotcha. Are you a teenage boy? Anyway - no! you claimed there would be a problem with the 'legitimate use of the highway', not me - and given the only legitimate use now is by emergency services it seems you aren't being prevented from doing anything at all.
  4. There was detailed traffic flow data available at the start of the OHS project - it may well have been recorded since then. Rockets suggested that the traffic doesn't come from Dulwich Village to Turney so perhaps he has insight? Also - @Abe, do try to move away from the 'othering' - its tedious. "Lycra warriors" - or alternatively 'people who ride a bike who are parents, children, teachers, doctors, people who work in offices, people who work in shops, you know, other human beings!
  5. Are you an emergency service vehicle driver - if not then it is not the events that are 'limiting your use of the highway'
  6. I'm not going to deal with the conjecture in your post as I, like you, have absolutely no knowledge on that. I would imagine the proposal was to reduce overall volumes. You say 'the traffic doesn't come from there does it' in relation to the DV/ Turney junction. Again - I don't know as i haven't seen detailed traffic flow data. Maybe all the Westbound Turney traffic comes from Burbage but in reality I'd imagine that at least some of it also comes from DV and therefore closing off that arm of the junction would reduce volumes overall at least in part. My preference - if I had any influence whatsoever, (which given I'm writing this on the EDF rather than as policy for the council, its clear I don't) would be to filter Turney at Croxted Road under the bridge. This would massively reduce traffic along Turney but also remove one of the 'turning arms' at Croxted and thus reducing congestion.
  7. I'm not clear based on the document shared that there is any suggestion that the events in Dulwich Square would be ticketed / private in the same way the Gala event is. Previous years events in that space have involved live music in the most part but been open to everyone rather than being a 'private event'
  8. @Rockets obviously don't know which way you'd be happy to let your children cycle on Turney Road - but during peak times the issues are more pronounced in the section between Burbage and Croxted where the amount of parked cars combined with the amount and type of traffic means that cycling doesn't feel safe, and not somewhere i'd be happy for children to cycle independently.
  9. Their Instagram says they’re closed due to illness and they’re hoping to be back soon!
  10. I explained quite clearly that there are visible from the street piles of wood in many of the doorways. So on that basis people in those houses are burning wood. Unless it’s a weird style statement ‘pile of wood in the porch gives your house a rustic feel’ that i was previously unaware of!
  11. Still trying I see Rockets…. Replace activists with ‘members’ would that make you feel better? It is undoubtedly the case that a number of One Dulwich mailing list sign ups are not Helen’s constituents. One Dulwich do like to hold themselves out as representing x number of residents and always with an inference that everyone is from the local area which isn’t the case and it’s not inconceivable that this is the line they’ve been taking in discussions with her. It’s fair for her to want to understand how many are her constituents in terms of representation. Nothing to do with which party they support or anything else you’re trying to shoehorn in but purely in terms of understanding whether the obviously increasing demands on her time that are being made by One Dulwich do in fact represent interests of anything close to a significant number of her constituents. Also I’ve had a look and for a group wanting such political legitimacy they’re surprisingly opaque. There have been spokespeople occasionally but otherwise there seems to be no governance structure / AGM etc - instead they’re essentially a few spokespeople with a mailing list. There is a place for this but it’s doesn’t give them the credibility / stakeholder status they seem to expect.
  12. Penguin- you are correct that they are not legally prohibited, but protocol is that they don’t act for non constituent unless some unusual fact pattern. Helen Hayes standard auto reply asks for name and address details so asking for details as to who One Dulwich represents on this basis is wholly consistent and efforts to make it seem not are disingenuous
  13. The number of houses on Trossachs road with a stack of wood outside the front door would seem to indicate that it’s nearly every house on Trossachs on both sides. It’s not an outlier but the wider porches clearly leave storage - also lots of houses done up on there at totally the wrong time in terms of the wood burner delusion!
  14. Or as already pointed out- it’s a standard part of acting as an MP- they can only engage on issues with their constituents! You know this, One Dulwich know this but the more desperate attempts at characterising it as something problematic show just how grasping their / your whole campaign has become! Really, the best time to have stopped with this ridiculous line of outrage in terms of a non event would have been before you posted it, the second best is now!
  15. Come on Rockets, this was a pitiful attempt at spin even given One Dulwich’s history to date, but let’s give up with the fake ‘wow, isn’t this dreadful’ from you. One Dulwich key people - like Richard Aldwinkle (Dulwich square is like the Berlin Wall deleted tweet dude) know full well that whenever you email your MP they ask for your name and full address. ANYONE emailing Helen Hayes gets an auto reply with a request to send this if they haven’t already. Attempts to make this seem like some anti democratic mandate are weasel-y spin - MPs can only act for their constituents and this is well known.
  16. Probably depends where you’re coming from in Ed but I tend to go up Greendale and over Herne Hill, through Ruskin park and out under the railway bridge and cut through until myatts field through new dev and then over Clapham road (lots of options this way depending on how much you’d prefer to be on more peaceful routes). Cross Clapham road and go into the oval LTN and then onto the cycle lane round the oval and over Vauxhall bridge. Main weird bit is the right turn onto the embankment coming off the north end of Vauxhall bridge. You have to cross the embankment at the lights and turn right- you can’t use the section that looks like a 2 way cycle path on the south side but goes no where!
  17. @rockets - no I don’t agree with cyclists dismount for all the reasons exdulwicher has outlined above. It’s interesting to see how often all those against the measures claim to have been ‘nearly’ hit by bikes too. Nearly hit or ‘I saw a bike once’? If not maybe some of you are just spectacularly unlucky. The square is shared space. Everyone needs to be careful. I regularly stop for small kids wandering out unsupervised but way more often for adults looking at phones rather than where they’re going, however because I am going slowly it’s fine. Most people do this. There are some people who are idiots on bikes, there are also idiots in all modes of transport, the advantage of having the idiots on bikes rather than driving an SUV is the amount of damage they can do I guess. One final point you made was about the noise road bikes make and equating that with speed. I do think that the successful othering of cyclists has equated that noise with speeding bikes but all road bikes and even my Brompton makes it- people tend to hear it and assume speed but pootling along has the same effect and noise!
  18. @Rockets ‘the biggest danger at the DV junction is speeding cyclists’ really? Do we need to talk about the relative danger of cars vs bikes and how having vehicles driving through what is supposed to be a car free area is dangerous. Secondly ‘I read there was an accident between a child and a cyclist’ - really? Did you read this anywhere other than the ‘clean air for all dulwich’ twitter account because it’s not exactly got form for telling the truth. More realistically it has form for lying to generate support and outrage. See todays comments on people being trapped in their homes for an example (just in case anyone is concerned, of course it’s not true and not even they believe it, it just suits them to instil panic!)
  19. @Rockets —as long as I can remember there have been issues with the foundation schools coaches parking illegally and idling on Townley road. The schools always claim to be working towards a solution but nothing changes other than it seems to get worse. The situation as it stands is really dangerous, do you genuinely think that having coaches parked on double yellows and zebra zig zags is ok? Cars driving on the wrong side of traffic islands because they can’t pass on the right side? Would you be happy letting your child cycle home along Townley Road as it is today?
  20. Whilst it is always quieter when private schools are off, last week Dulwich Hamlet and Infants and both Charters were also off
  21. Does this mean there is a perm business moving in? I had thought the mama hood was a pop up so would just be there until let teddyboy23 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Another business closing end of the month the > mammahood down by edt
  22. Oh fair enough - I thought it was above wood vale so lewisham, but clearly confusing boundaries around there. I don?t think Southwark should be looking to keep it open though- it?s uneconomic to run a 1 form entry school and there are places elsewhere.
  23. Confusing as isn?t the school in Lewisham?
  24. I saw that sadly lilas on Lordship lane is closing down. I?ve copied the below from East Dulwich Mums group: From Lila?s ?Over the last 8 years, Lila's small but passionate team has been a companion for thousands of SE London residents in their jewellery adventures. We started mainly as a vintage and antique jewellery boutique with an award winning shop design and great professionals and we developed our range of products and services constantly since our early days. We brought together incredible pieces from the late 18th century with amazing new designs created in-house with a focus on sustainability. We've repaired thousands of pieces, we re-modeled and re-set incredible stones from family heirloom jewellery, thus becoming a part in your joy of keeping the loved ones close to heart. We issued hundreds of valuation reports to help with your insurance or legal requirements. We were there for so many of you creating pieces for your special moments: engagement, wedding, new babies or losing somebody special. Thank you to all of you entrusting us with your most precious possessions. It's not easy to say "Good bye!" to all of this, especially when we started reaping the fruits of all the hard work put into it with great growth on all of our services. However, personal events happening lately have shifted my perspective on work and life balance and I decided it's best to move on. Lila's will close its door on 30th June 2022, so we're giving it a final push for the last couple of months and we hope to see as many of you in the meantime. I want to stress it's not financial hardship, but personal reasons leading to this decision and I wish with all my heart our team members will be able to take over and carry on Lila's legacy. If you have pieces with us already, such as repairs or bespoke projects, don't worry, everything will be completed in time and handed over just as before.?
  25. It would make sense for Charter to use them but they don?t- they walk all the way over to the Griffin. Meanwhile DKH don?t use it any more and I?d be surprised if SKSC did either. Sounds like it?s pretty much unused most of the time which is just ridiculous (as is budding the kids from St Olaves to it)
