  1. Thanks! I hadnt really thought about medication too much as I wasnt sure what there was out there. At the moment she is very much in the prolongued teething category without much clear progress. Feel so sorry for her! She has nelsons teething powders and bonjela and calpol if really bad but that doesnt seem to make a vast difference really. I have already noticed a reduction in the dribbling and ear pulling but she is still obviously sore and chewing on everything so fingers crossed it helps! Thanks Jennyx
  2. Thanks everyone, I have just received one ordered from Amber Pumkin or something like that. i went for Honey colour in the end and round beads, quite cute actually not that that is the point! Does anyone leave it on for sleeptime or perhaps put on the ankle? What would you all suggest? She wakes chomping on her fingers frequently so anything that might help! Will report back on effectiveness!
  3. Hi Just a quick one from anyone who knows about the gag reflex...my 7 month old is still struggling gagging on any lumpy food, we have been trying on and off for a couple of months. Occasionally she gags and then just swallows the food or spits it out but the vast majority of the time (at least 80%!!) she will vomit badly. Yesterday she gagged on a piece of rusk, there was no coughing or choking noises, rather she just continually vomited until her entire stomach contents were up (sorry TMI!). She finds it quite shocking and a upsetting and then of course I have to deal with a baby who realises she has a very empty tummy at some point in the night! I suppose I am just wondering if it is possible to have a very sensitive gag reflex or if there could be something else that might cause this reaction? Anyone got experience with the same thing? Just interested in why this might be as most other babies I know will gag but rarely does it result in such a dramatic outcome! I am not worrying as I am confident she will move onto lumpier food eventually and I refuse to get woud up about her weaning at the moment because she is such a tricky eater! Jenny
  4. Hi I want to get one of these for my 7 month old. I know that some websites don't recommend them for such a young age but I know many who have tried them so i am keen to give it a shot. Just wondering if anyone has bought one for a younger baby and can recommend the website to me? Thanks Jenny
  5. Thanks everyone! She has picked up a little and is having a bit more milk so perhaps it's just a combination of becomming fussier generally, and her cold and the teething. I will try those things though bcoz it can't hurt like you say. She does have a good amount of water I think but in the past I think citrus gave her a bit of a rash so I've been avoiding it but I will try again! Thanks!!
  6. Hi My daughter is really off her milk and has been for a couple of days. She had a bad cold for a while and its been hanging around in mild stages for the last week or so. She is also teething so is generally very fussy. I am wondering whether she might be a bit constipated and therefore already full to bursting so seems to have very little hunger/appetite. I know that constipation is not an issue in babies but I am exploring the possible reasons for her lack of interest in feedig. I am certain it will pass so I am not concerned but anyone got any tips on how to make it easier for her to poo!!? Thanks jenny
  7. I saw a sign saying whippersnappers outside that little house on the edge of dulwich park. The entrance by the gallery. Could be the same...
  8. oh there is a playroom in the Victoria on Bellenden road, not sure what theyve got but I think I saw some soft mats, books, toys etc. If you fancy a pub!
  9. Hey I have a weird combo of bits and it works fine. The only thing I think you have to be wary of is the much older chairs that have a high rounded back, they have their own cushions but you prob wouldnt be able to get those now anyway. I have the standard tripp trapp chair plus a plastic babyset back with a wooden bar that slots into the frame of the chair rather than attaches to the plastic seat back, if that makes sense. I think all bits should work fine but I am also new to the tripp trapp market so perhaps someone more qualified can help! Jenny
  10. Thanks everyone again. Im interested in the choking info, didn't know all of that so thank you. She had a good day today and ate masses of puree so I guess every day is different! Still quite poorly so it was nice to see her have a bit of appetite. Im definitely going to relax a bit more and just see how it goes, no pressure on her or me!
  11. Following on from the poor weaning thread and teething issues, my daughter had a really bad night and seems full of cold and a cough :( Can anyone kindly loan me a humidifier or plug in vapour thingy to see if it helps her tonight. I have raised her cot quite a lot already and she is covered in olbas oil but anything that helps!!! Thank you Jenny
  12. She does gag but then brings the food to the front and either spits it out or has another gum. She def chokes though too as she goes a shade of reddy/purple, can't take a breath and gasps. This is usually when she brings everything up or I offer her water to swallow down the food. She finds the vomiting in this way quite shocking and upsetting :( I imagine it's when something has hit the back of her throat and she can't move it forward. It's just very scary and whilst I'm not one to completely dismiss stuff, I think I need to listen to her, as everyone has wisely said! I'll stick with the squishy and slimy things and leave the carbs!
  13. Thank you everyone! I was getting a bit stressed because I wasnt sure whether or not she needed the nutrition so obviously I want her to have what she needs! You are all very supportive! I think that she is definitely struggling with teething and this cold, she just woke up coughing and when I picked her up she brought up huge lumps of mucusy jelly all over me and was hacking away uncontrollably. She has a really rattly throat so perhaps this all has something to do with it too. I will endeavour to relax more and if she isnt feeling it then I wont worry, hopefully that way it will make her realise it is a nice time when she wants it. I also think I might just stick to spoon feeding for a while as I think perhaps she gets confused and wants to feed herself as she knows that sometimes if she holds out for a while she might get something more interesting! At the moment I am just shoving spoons, finger food, anything under her nose and the poor girl has no idea what she is supposed to do! And yes good tip about the pouches. I have been using them as she is so changeable but have just bought all the food to do the meal planners for annabel karmel but I guess I will just eat it myself until she is ready! Take a step back, breathe, and start again!
  14. Hi Sorry for the common (and long) thread but I have had such a frustrating day and need to vent to anyone willing to listen! My daughter is 6.5 months (29 weeks) and I weaned her early (around 21 weeks) on small amounts of fruit and veg puree. We went to 3 meals a day about 3 weeks ago but I dont feel she has taken to weaning fully yet and recently has pretty much stopped completely. She has rejected pretty much everything for the past few days and I am confused about the reasons why. I want eating to be a nice experience for her but she just clamps shut at all the things she previously liked and makes whining noises and as a result I get frustrated so she is more reluctant! Today I managed to give her 1 spoon of fruit for breakfast, nothing at lunch and then a couple of spoonfuls at tea plus a chew on a strawberry and a small piece of mozzarella. I am wondering if this is a phase because she is teething at the moment and seems to also have a mild cold but it has been like this for at least a week and I don't know whether it is because we are just struggling with solids generally. I have to say that I have never felt that she has eaten particularly well but I know it is early days still and she is learning about taste etc and technique. She never finishes food and really rejects most after a couple of spoonfuls so I move onto something else! Ironically when I started weaning her early she was really up for it and had the eating skills nailed despite being little, it does feel as if she's gone backwards. I always offer her finger foods too(both things she can hold like toast and things I put in her mouth in pieces like scrambled egg or bits of fruit). She has definitely improved at moving things around her mouth and now mushes bits of rusk up but she still chokes pretty much every feed and is quite violently sick about 75% of the time. I find it very hard to see her choking and gagging and it seems too severe to be worth it! i thought that this wasnt supposed to happen often, am I the only one always cleaning up a tummy's worth of milky mush for the sake of a teeny piece of bread? Have other people's babies had periods of being off food and does the teething thing sound familiar? any tips on things to try to get her used to eating again after this spell?? She is also slap bang in the middle of a developmental peak and I wonder if the distraction has anything to do with it. She has learnt lots of new noises, refuses to nap out in the pushchair, will stay wired for hours and hours rather than drop off, will wake in the night just to chat to herself and play for an hour here and there (which quickly turns to shrieking and crying if left!). Amidst all this interest in her surroundings I wonder if she cant be bothered to eat! Anyway, just a rant really as its been a few difficult days and Im finding it all a bit exhausting and being a bit over the top!!! Im sure as soon as I finish writing this it will all change again and we'll put it down to one of the many 'phases'. Thanks in advance! Jenny
  15. Poor you, horrid. Thanks for posting. I often think I dont pay enough attention, always pushing a laden pram with one hand whilst holding my phone with the other. Will be more careful!
  16. Thank you! I'll def speak to her as it gets closer. I think it is just a nerve-wracking time! She has now decided 6am is def her get up time so is quite sleepy in the morning now. She's adjusting every week to something different yet I still try to predict it, I should have learnt to give up! Maybe for baby 2 I will! Sure it will work out as these things always do, I'm just trying to prevent her being totally overtired and screechy at bedtime and sadly she is far too interested in what's going on to nap in the day without considerable encouragement and direction!! :)
  17. We went to baby premier in Harley street, wasn't overly expensive as I went for extra scans for peace of mind so happy to pay. They are very nice, lovely clinic and easy to get ab appointment.
  18. Another vote for primark button up night shirt in a size up which I kept on throughout. Prob more a result of chance rather than wanting to cover up though. Also don't know is just me but it didn't get ruined so after a good wash on 60 it is good as new!!! But haven't put it on as it's both too big and full of slightly disturbing memories! I'll keep it for next time.
  19. Hi My 6 month old usually sleeps around 12 hours at night with a few wakings that don't usually cause too much drama. She wakes up full of beans and plays very well for a couple of hours, when it comes to her morning nap she is usually completely knocked out and is upset when I wake her. Because she is so tired, I usually let her have a maximum of 1.5 hours in the morning. She often wakes before this time but there are many times when she is upset at being woken up and is clearly in a very deep sleep. She then has an alright nap at lunchtime providing she is put down in the cot, anywhere between 45-90 mins (much less in the pushchair) and another shorter nap in the afternoon. My worry is that she will go to a childminder in 2 months where she won't be able to have that really long nap in the morning but she is really moody if she doesn't get it! I know that if I reduced her morning nap she would eventually have make her lunchtime nap the main one which I know is preferred but she seems to need this extra shut-eye and gets very grizzly and lathargic if she doesn't get it. I know all babies are different but my childminder has a way of doing things and I know that she wouldnt be happy to fit in around her mammoth morning sleep when she has other children who are up and about! Anyone got any thoughts? I cant really get her to sleep longer in the morning because when I go back to work she will have to be up at 7 anyway. I am not sure that her morning tiredness has anything to do with her night-time sleep because she is sleepy whether she has had a disturbed night or not! Part of me thinks that she is sleepier at the moment as she is reaching lots of milestones and learning loads of new things like sitting up etc, plus she is teething. I know there is a developmental leap around now so maybe that has something to do with it but at the same time she has been like this for a long time! Can I expect any real change by the time she is 8 months or should I be trying to change her bodyclock a bit??
  20. My 6 month old takes stupidly small amounts of milk during the day but then fills up at bedtime and dreamfeed. i used to have to change her in the night as well because of leaking nappy, and the clothes, and the sleeping bag and the sheet! Talk about disrupting the night. I now put her in larger pampers baby dry nappies and a tots bots or motherease wrap done up pretty tight! usually does the trick. I understand what you say about not wanting to do night feeds again but my girl takes so little in the morning that I have no option but to start reducing the dreamfeed and we'll see what happens! Good luck!
  21. Hi Given that these look very similar and the concept is the same, does anyone have experience of both of these and can advise on the differences and pros/cons? Jenny
  22. Afraid not but if you search the forum there are loads of threads on nurseries so you should get an idea of the situation in the area, best to prob give them all a ring. I understand that the best nurseries can have 12 month waiting lists but I think that all nurseries will have a waiting list of some sort. Whilst there is lots of choice there are a lot of families looking for places. I know that the nurseries are always reviewing their waiting lists as I got a call yesterday to ask if i still needed a place so I guess it changes frequently. Good luck!
  23. From what I remember there is only 1 room with a pool, out of around 12 rooms in total...but then I could be making that up. Luck of the draw I guess, when I had my daughter in feb I was lucky to get a delivery room as they had me on another 4-bay ward for the first 5 hours due to demand! Didn't fancy giving birth in a room with 4 full bays to be honest! :)
  24. Just a quick one, not really adding to the post but bit bored. I took my newborn in her pushchair to the park and a boisterous staffie bounded up to us and launched headfirst into the pushchair, front paws up on the edge and head lunging into the hood. Now I really like dogs and wish I had space for one but that is another story. In my new mum haze it didn't really bother me what had happened but then when I think back it could have been pretty horrendous with grizzly teeth so close to her head. Parks are public places and everyone has a right to use them but I suppose if you have a particularly energetic dog (even if it is just friendly and enthusiastic) it might be an idea to be cautious around young children, granted that is hard in Dulwich as they are everywhere you turn. i want to encourage my daughter to had a good relationship with all animals so will not be keeping her away but I would be upset if the same thing happened again. I also blame Bugaboo for making the bee such a stupidly low lying pushchair, perfect dog head height!
