  1. really interesting - I found this https://www.landcareresearch.co.nz/tools-and-resources/identification/what-is-this-bug/green-vegetable-bug-immature-nymph
  2. Maybe a humidifier, or bowl of water near her bed might help. Sometimes dry air can cause a sore throat
  3. No, just no. Zero tolerance does not mean we expect zero crime but that we do not accept a standard level as normal and unavoidable. For those who have suffered such “minor” crimes, myself included having had my house broken into, it is clear from the lack of action that they are considered “acceptable”’. Once small crimes become known to be ignored, it changes where and how we live.
  4. It seems we have to accept a certain level of crime as normal now… phone thefts, car thefts, parcels stolen from doorsteps…. they are just recorded as statistics. When it’s invasive ( numerous home invasions in my street recently), one reported on the forum recently, Evri delivery had his car stolen, the man attacked in PRP a couple of weeks ago, reports of violent and threatening youths also in PRP… it goes on and on. And now this poor woman brutally assaulted in daylight on a busy street. NONE of this is acceptable. There should be ZERO tolerance for such criminal acts. There is no denying the police have too much to deal with and not enough resources. It’s disgusting. It’s a misappropriation of public funds. More should be invested on our police force.
  5. Is there a go-fund-me page for her? I’d like to contribute, and show that I care about her. I can’t imagine how terrifying that must have been, and will no doubt affect her for the future. That could have been anyone of us.
  6. happy to buy, but would rather not buy a new one as only need it for a very short time (Hallowe'en). Please let me know if you have one in your cupboard that you don't use.
  7. Owners that weaponise their dogs need strong punishments. It’s not the dogs’ fault
  8. Isn’t it still October? I need to check my calendar. can you come back later?
  9. There are few gems left - will sorely miss this
  10. What's so dreaded about Homeschooling? I know a number of families who do this very happily and successfully.
  11. We like their food. The pies are good too
  12. Are Brixton and Catford hipster now? I can't even work out where this thread is going. Started off trying to see if anyone recognised the tagger, publicised by the police for racist graffiti. Then, resources of police and if they would attend that crime but not a home burglary, and why so many police attend the carnival but being very clear that there is no stereotypical cause of the violence and that it's proportional to violent crime in Dulwich, so all quite normal and expected. That doesn't make any sense. (waiting for the outraged comments as I've missed the point - in which case, summarise it)
  13. NHV were brilliant with cruciate ligament ops on the dog and so - until these recent experiences with the cats, I did trust them. I haven't had anything as serious need attention with MV and use them as they are closer (minor things like claws, checks). I was exploring NVH as have kittens that need vaccs etc and looking at their Pet Plans as they are supposed to be transferable. When you have had exceptionally good but also bad experiences, it's always worth looking into. I'm waiting for NHV to contact me. In the meantime, we're using MV and are very happy with them.
  14. we use Medivet on LL - haven't had an issue at all. Costs are reasonable. NHV on other hand always seems a little over keen to do anything that is going to cost a lot. They suggested medication for my cat that cost over £600 0 really they should have said she was end of life and not to put her through that. I let it go but they did exactly the same to my other old cat and put her through lots of tests totally unnecessary and quite cruelly. She was never going to live any longer - I took their advice as they should know. And then, trying to make an appointment yesterday morning, the receptionist didn't like me asking to continue an earlier conversation with the other receptionist and was incredibly rude, I just asked if I could speak to the person I had spoken to previously. I was told "there's no point", said I had an attitude, that they would hang up on me and he would not tolerate me shouting. None of which I did. I called back later, asked for the Admin manager to call me and they haven't.
  15. are you saying that crime is scalable and directly related to the number of people? and not the actual people making up the number? That would mean flat rate crime across the world. there are so many other factors - it's silly to not acknowledge these.
  16. All cats are legally required to be microchipped now, I'd be inclined to keep him in while you try and locate owner(although not sure how you'd prove that) and then, give a couple of days and then take him to the vet and get him chipped. There are lots of Lost Cat sites to check and try and find his humans.
  17. you seem personally offended that there may be a suggestion that there are too many cars on the roads and people are aware of that. Just fancy, the whole entire world having a car free day yet there is an issue in a little burb of london.
  18. There are lots of places to meet our friends - however, a street party - on the road where you live - is very different. People who wouldn't normally come out, do and being able to recognise your neighbours at the very least is a great thing. Lots of streets now are more social, with WhatsApp groups and it feels much more like a community, which is precious. Some of my neighbours wouldn't be able to walk as far as the park but are able to get to their front garden and have people to talk to. It is a lot to organise, but it's worth it. You go to the Park, Frist Mate - we'll be putting up bunting, making cakes, setting up music and story telling tents
  19. Such a great idea!! We do like a little get together and definitely welcome a car free day
  20. so, rather than actually being trouble makers from a diverse group, it's just being said to pacify allegations of inconsistency in how it's being handled?
  21. It says in the link that those arrested are "from all political and cultural backgrounds". I think we should be careful before generalising - which in itself causes problems.
