Earlier this evening whilst visiting friends in the road I used to the live, Overhill Road, the water main burst. Stones flying out of the ground and an arc of water threatening to flood one of the houses on the other side of the road. Very quickly lots of people were outside trying to divert the flow and also find out who the owner of a car was that was being pelted by the water, windows smashed and filling up fast. Everyone that pitched in was soaked to their skin from their efforts to stop the flooding, piling up sand and erecting tarpaulins and after the fire brigade turned up we all helped to bail out the neighbours front garden to stop the water entering the house. I think that's pretty neighbourly! Thames water were nowhere to be seen...

Hi ianr, I mainly like to be kept logged in because it shows posts with new comments. Additionally it's because I haven't reset the password provided and I can never remember it so have to go into my emails to find it. Having to do that every time means it's a bit of a bus! Lazy, I know! It seems to have rectified itself and I'm happy finding myself logged in when I hit the Eda button on my home screen. Thanks for taking the the time to explain.

Why do I have to log in every time I visit the forum now? Previously, whenever I visited, I remained logged in. Small problem but a tad annoying!

Things you thought you could do when you were a kid

When I was about four I remember running up to my mum and telling her that I could see the air! I think I'd been staring into the middle distance and the moisture on my eyes was swirling around... -

I was told by the builders in the summer that they were going to be be selling for ?800k each! They're so small it's insulting. Greedy developers.

You should have a certificate of structural adequacy if you made a claim and works were done to fix the problems. We're selling at the moment and had work done for subsidence about 6yrs ago. We supplied the certificate to our solicitors and there has been no problem getting through the sale. Hope that helps!

Louisa, you could apply your "look at me" opinion to yourself on this forum. Really, I am so bored of your bile and miserable outlook, is there nothing that you can't just let be? There are probably 100 more cheeses to choose from at the cheese block - a local, independent shop, than there are at a supermarket and for some that live around here supporting the local economy is much more important than spending it all in shit supermarkets. There would have been hour-long queues to get out of the car park at sainsburys, chugging out pollution and you're moaning about community minded people queuing for cheese for half an hour! But you get what you want, don't you? Loook at you, look at Louisa, ooh, look at what Louisa said... If you're always so in need of an audience why don't you get out of your house and on to your soapbox? That way you can say what you think directly to the people you're seemingly and continually so appalled by, straight to their faces, see what kind of an audience you get then. -
Well be selling our 2 bed flat soon. We're on Overhill Rd with a fantastic view of London... Pm me

I was there after the girl was taken away, very distressing. The place got more and more crowded and frantic and yet only two lifeguards... I really hope that girl is ok. You'd think after that incident and with so many people there would be at least four lifeguards on duty.

These are from a fog seven years ago. The droplets one was taken with a crappy phone camera I think, and the flash went off and captured the droplets, I really wasn't expecting that result! The second one is one of the stairways of Dawson's Heights.

I'm so happy, I've just passed my test! I'd like to thank and recommend Sarah - a great, patient teacher. You can reach her on 07956 563129 and [email protected]

For any work undertaken to correct cracking and subsidence there should be guarantee docs. If work has been done, move in! The work on our house was a 2.5yrs process. Underpinning is not always needed if trees have been removed and the ground has resettled before repairs have taken place.

The words I've heard are that the flats will be renovated and let with nothing happening just yet to the old laundry space. Also, that the lady that runs French cafe is taking the building next to the barbers and turning it into a french restaurant.

former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?
joom replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Thanks James, the work currently going on is between Belvoir and Underhill Road, though it certainly hasn't reached Underhill yet. The condition of the road itself is so bad, all along the sides there are great big gaps between the surface and the kerb which makes parking a nightmare. There's a pothole on the last hump at the underhill road end that has caused us a puncture in the past. If you could point me in the right direction as to who to contact if be more than happy to get in touch. If you could visit yourself that would also be great. -

Hi James, A while back I asked about the works going on on Overhill Road. Conway have been replacing the old Tarmac paths with new paved ones. Work seems to have stopped though barriers and a Conway container are still in place. Are the paths due for replacement on the whole street? And why the delay? Additionally, are there plans to relay the road itself? The state of it at the moment is atrocious. When you have time, it would be good to know. Thanks. -
I've been told that the idea behind the borough-wide 20mph speed limit where there is no monitoring is to encourage drivers to stay below 30mph, as people will undoubtedly drive over 20mph but if the limit was 30mph then people would go over that and speeds approaching 40mph are obviously more dangerous.
