Checked out by Health Visitor
nylonmeals replied to nylonmeals's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Thank you so much all. Really appreciate all the advice and will do just that. I'd never heard of PALS (bad mum!)but that sounds like a good place to start. Thank you again! -
Would really value some Forum-ite advice: Back in November when my husband and I were out at work our youngest managed to burn his hands on the over. A nasty accident but no-one's fault. He ended up in A and E and bandages for a few weeks. I was phoned by the Health Visitors just before Xmas who said that it was extremely important for them to come and check that his hands were healing properly. They said that they wanted to come as soon as possible so came in the week between Xmas and New Year. When the HV arrived she said that the clinic was concerned about the health of our child as he had a severe nut allergy and was repeatedly going into hospital and at the last trip he had been put on an IV and had then burnt his hands on the oven and had had to come to A&E again. They were worried that he wasn't being properly cared for. I told her that our son didn't have a nut allergy , had never been on an IV or to A&E for that and asked to see the notes. The notes were about a girl and not our son. Basically they had mixed up our notes. But even after saying that they had made a mistake they stayed for an hour and a half asking quite intrusive questions about how involved my parents were with the up-brining of our children, where they lived, what nursery provision we had for our oldest chid, numbers of bedrooms. Which we of course answered. I know that they are only doing their jobs, but I am actually a bit cross that we were subjected to that on account of their patient note mix up. I am also worried that our children might be on some kind of "at risk" list for no reason. Is there anything that I should do - like writing to our doctors so that they have in writing that they made a mistake in their notes and to ensure that they confirm to us that they have rectified the notes. Or should I just leave it? Thoughts??

This was a life saver for us - its a Fisher Price projector http://www.amazon.co.uk/Fisher-Price-Wonders-Projector-Soother/dp/B0028K2RN8/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1357405320&sr=8-2 that plays soothing music or white noise. We sat it next to our little one's bed so that it projected the image onto the ceiling and that amazingly got him to sleep when he woke during the night at around the same age as yours. Really surprised us but it worked for us!

Can anyone recommend a good hairdresser?
nylonmeals replied to Lochie's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I am a big fan of all the team at Myla and Davies by the station in Herne Hill - http://www.mylaanddavis.co.uk/Myla_and_Davis/Home.html Sue in particular is great - very cool, but hugely approachable and does great cuts! (not that you want to bring your kids along to the appointment, but they do a Kid Friendly Monday with toys etc in the salon) -
My little ones were given beautiful antique compasses when they were born. I thought that this was a really thoughtful present - relating to guidance and direction for their lives. It's something that I know they will keep forever.

We've got lots of friends with kids there who seem hugely happy and un-pressure cooked.

These are brilliant - many thanks! And if anyone else has any suggestions would love to hear them

There's a children's fancy dress halloween party in the pedestrian area outside Herne Hill station on the 31st - apple bobbing, face painting, dancing to the Thriller (!) etc. The local posters actually make it sound quite sweet and its free. 5pm till 8pm

Needed some ED Forum help please: we have a childrens group reading rota at the church which we attend and I am meant to read the under 1-4s a story on Remembrance Sunday. And I need to find a childrens book around that theme. They are too young, I think to understand the concept of war, but any thoughts on books with a theme of remembrance in it, or maybe children who have a disagreement and then make up and the importance of forgiveness(feel like I am clutching at straws here a bit!) Any ideas would be hugely helpful! Thank you

French playgroup Cadet Rousselle celebrates Halloween
nylonmeals replied to Isauk's topic in The Family Room Discussion
This Monday session is a really lovely one - our son used to go and now attends the Cadet Rousselle "maternelle" nursery in Herne Hill. It's well worth a checking it out and West Norwood really not too far away from East Dulwich. -
@Monkey There is a very good French nursery in Herne Hill http://www.ecolecadetrousselle.co.uk/, if you wanted to immerse your little one with other bi-lingual children you could see if you could maybe do one or two mornings a week. French might suddenly become much more fun if all the other kids were talking it!

Best thing on TV at the moment. Just brilliant, each week I sit there totally captivated. Hope that you guys get commissioned to do another series! -
Had a quick question about Moshi Monsters as it seems to be my godson's current major obession (I have toddler and baby, so haven't really come across it yet) Do your kids play Moshi Monsters? What do you think that they like about it? What do you think of it? It looks pretty cool to be honest but would love to hear opinions of other parents! Thanks

Hi P&J, there is a toddler group on Mondays but there is also a nursery in Herne Hill (the website isn't very clear, but email them) My son starts there in September, it's on Poplar Walk just off Fawnbrake Avenue. They are all run by the same organiztion called Cadet Rouselle. The nursery runs from 2 - 4 years

There's a French bilingual nursery in Herne Hill very close to ED. http://www.cadetrousselle.co.uk/ There's Spanish one (in fact I think that there may be more than one, but this is the one that I know) on Clapham Manor Street. Again, not in ED but not too far away http://www.cylex-uk.co.uk/company/anglo-spanish-nursery-school-ltd-14206415.html Good luck!

Lucy, get yourself a stair gate on her door! Think that there were a few in the Classified section yesterday. Good luck! -
Cot to bed? Timings and How to go about it?
nylonmeals replied to benjaminty's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Our little one started climbing out of his cot bed soon after his little brother arrived, probably around 21 months too. We then got him a toddler bed and had issues like you so fitted a gate on his door. Once the gate was shut we didn't go back in. Sounds silly, but someone had given us a balloon so we tied the ballon to his bed, he had a duvet cover and pillow which pictures on that he loved and was surrounded by his favourite toys so we tried to make it into a special occassion, a "big boys bed" not a baby bed. Took a few days of gate rattling and crying but within a week (in fact less than a week) it was totally fine and after a month or so we just removed the stair gate and he has never once left his room. I know all kids are different and I feel for you, but I bet that it will be better so soon! Good luck. -
what time does your 2 yr old get to bed
nylonmeals replied to lucyA1308's topic in The Family Room Discussion
@LucyA1308, how old is your baby? Maybe the wanting to go to bed later is a reaction to that and a way of demonstrating to you that she is the older one? I know that our 2 year old went through/is going thru that. -
