Met consultation on Police Station front counters
Huguenot replied to joobjoob's topic in The Lounge
Pfft. 1) Telecoms didn't go down in 7/7, they were shut down. It didn't result in monkeys flocking to cop shops. If telecoms went down over a long period you'd have a complete breakdown of society, one fat bloke getting titted off on the front desk ain't going to ease that. 2) Don't be ridiculous. Police are there to address public order issues. That's all. Anything else goes through lawyers. They're not a social service for disenfranchised social groups. Old people are not cripples, if you're worried about them go and see them and be their friend - don't expect the police to take on your responsibilities. They'll call you before going to the cop shop. 3) The day I see a victim of harrassment going to the front desk of a cop shop I'll eat my hat. 4) Get a grip, it IS another government building. An expensive waste of time. We're not living in some sort of delirious Dixon of Dock Green society, we have a real one. -
I wish you guys could see the innocent joy it gave billions of people outside the UK. 68p? Bargain. If you didn't have that, you'd only have Cameron bleating your case. Is that really the way you want Britain to be perceived?

"He hald his vaccinations as a kitten but nothing after then and died of multiple cancers" Makes note, immunisation prevents multiple cancers... *scratch*

I think he was simply trying to illustrate how FPTP allows disastrous policies to be sustained in the face of a majority disapproval. FPTP was devised by old greedy men who wanted to remain in power, and is now being campaigned for by old greedy men who want to remain in power.

We have a family of geckos in the house to get the ants. The fish get the mozzies. Haven't found anything to get the roaches yet. Dog seems to be scared of them. Rubbish dog.

I do think you completely miss the point on 'world aid' vinceayre. The UK taxpayers spend 160 billion every year on the welfare state - the cash that's committed to reducing poverty at all levels. Additionally there's hundreds of billions more going on health and education. All of these are focused on alleviating child poverty amongst many other things. In contrast overseas aid budget is less than 8bn - less than 0.5% of the welfare budget. If you took all the money from overseas aid and spent it on the welfare state there would not be enough of a change to notice. That assumes you'd want to cut overseas aid anyway. It would be a daft idea. There are two ways to cut child poverty, one is to increase the welfare budget, the other way is to get their parents in a job. It's obvious to everyone that the preferred alternative is the second one. Britain generates over 400bn every year in exports - keeping millions of people in work. Our successful international commerce is supported by the necessary component of overseas aid: it's part of doing business. Additionally, the question 'how many of you have actually done something positive about poverty and inequality in Britain?' is pointless. Everyone who went out to work today did their bit about poverty and inequality in Britan.

Marmora Man, you are quite beyond belief. What would your wife say if you said 'calm down dear' in front of your mates in order to remind her that you are a man and she needs to know her place? *comprehensive non Labour MP disbelief* Looking for the men-stuck-in-1050 poster book.

I couldn't find a N Sears listed in E Dulwich. There was one off Park Lane, and another one in Crouch End. Doesn't mean he's not on the forum though. He should be embarrassed about his contribution to the nation's culture.

It's right wingers on this thread that are in the No corner. There are indeed left wingers in parliament in the No corner. They tend to be the political dinosaur, old-school jobs-for-life brigade. Can you show me how you calculated that 50m figure? Since I've found no-one that can make a sensible forecast of the cost differential I suspect it has absolutely no validity. If you can't see how appealing to 50% of the electorate requires more work than appealing to 35%, then I don't know how to help you. What on earth you are talking about re. expenses I have no idea, no-one has made that claim. This is the typical 'bullshit' to which I refer. You create fictitious arguments to refute. It's just a bald lie. Again.

No yoghourt.

That's simply not the case Silverfox. The vast majority of electoral costs are in publicising it and addressing legal obligations - the last one cost about 120m. The cost of the count itself is a fairly small proportion of that, and there's no reason to assume that AV would impact significantly upon it. 'Counters' are paid for time that already exceeds the duration of the count. In fact the fake claim by the 'No' bullshitters is that AV would require 100s of millions for electronic voting. This isn't necessary, and the issue of electronic voting is under consideration regardless of whether AV or FPTP is committed to. Just another lie (like the whole 'No' campaign). Regarding your view on cost of the referendum, it is a reflection of your extraordinary right wing prejudice that you believe democracy should be take from the nation on the basis that asking people their opinion costs a few quid. Nuts.

Frankly AnotherPaul, I've not mentioned either the BNP or racism. You did. I didn't mention white or black either. You did. I don't need to cover off the posters again either. They are not valid discussion. You stick up pictures of lynch mobs and put them in front any sane person and they won't say 'valid debate'. They'll say insensitive references to to racist attacks or witch hunts. They'll say that any moderately intelligent person would know that. They'll say that only a liar tries to pass this off as a joke. Like I said mate - if you want to bring up issues of black and white, that's entirely up to you. I don't have any public view on you or Moyles in this context. What I am saying is that trying to pass this poster off as a joke is what nasty little bullies playing psychological games do.

14A (Basement) Crystal Palace Rd noise nuisance
Huguenot replied to MrLoxley's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Tend to agree with the Medic. If they're playing loud music repeatedly in the wee hours they already know they're pissing people off, and they don't care. Show up at the door and you just identify yourself as a target. Keep a diary and keep contacting noise prevention squad. The only way you'll get the coppers round is if there's a breach of the peace. Best way to create a breach of the peace is have the noise prevention squad visit three times and then try and take their stereo. -
I think the schools money has all been spent on free meals for rich kids?
-
I'm starting to get the real picture now. A young capable ambitious head (who is not the old head) has been trying to create a young capable ambitious school. She has faced months of abuse, and eventually was the recipient of hate posters scattered around school by people who thought they could get away with calling it a joke. When that failed they went to the nastiest dirtiest most racist gutter press with a twisted story. When I say 'you dirty bastards' you know who I'm talking to right?

Sometimes I don't think people understand these things. The parking for local people isn't bad because of road restrictions, it's because numpties arrive at 7am, park the car, and don't come back until 7pm. They're not shopping or even browsing. They're ripping off the area. All hail the council ;-)

Have you read anything I've said Mick Mac? Really disappointed with your response.
-
Well whatever the provenance, I'm on the verge of quitting not in a huff, but just because this idiot has taken all the joy.
-
Do a Singapore (very similar to the MM proposition).

;-)

*chuckle* I haven't got time to locate all those quotes from MM where he says 'the British don't do sudden change' is a good thing. Now it's 'trickle change' is a bad thing. You can't have it both ways!! It is clear that politicians under AV will have to do far more to attract a broader base of voters under AV. What FPTP offers is a sudden change to a minority extremist position. According to MM's own views, that's a bad thing.

Royal Wedding Street Parties (Lounged)
Huguenot replied to Little Miss Epiphany's topic in The Lounge
There's already a thread on this here. I think on page 5 or 6 Councillor JB names the streets in ED that have organised parties. It should be noted that these aren't 'public' parties, but those organised by the street committees, so you wouldn't be able to just turn up and join in unless they invited you.
