Why do contestants go on General Knowledge Quiz shows, with no General Knowledge whatsoever, I find it a bit annoying ... does anyone else think OMG when watching? I don't know a lot so therefore I wouldn't bother applying, but I know a bit more than some contestants .... Where on the body are Molars found: On the feet? In 1855 who launched package tours: Richard Branson? In 1955 what did Roger Banister do in four mins: Orbit the earth? Oh dear !!

Lets join hands ... is anybody there? Nope, didn't think so.

Sorry I honestly say I haven't shopped in Rye Lane for many years. All my family used to shop there. There was Boots, Marks and Spencer, Woolworths, Sainsburys, C&A, British Home Stores, the large "Grace Brothers" that was Jones and Higgins Department Store. You could go to Rye Lane and get all your Christmas Shopping. It was called "The Golden Mile" in my parents day. Rye Lane may be some peoples cup of tea, but not mine. Mostly smelly chicken shops and afro-carribean hair shops. I have tried to shop there, on a veg stall, I queued, I was continually ignored in favour of other customers, not speaking English in hijabs and gave up. Where in Rye Lane can you now buy A nice outfit for a wedding by Jaegar or similar? A set of crystal glasses or other wedding gift, doulton crockery? A petticoat for your nan? A childrens sit down meal of fish fingers, chips and beans, and a pot of jelly desert? Some ballet shoes? Whatever you could want, you get in Rye Lane, now you can't.

Sorry, my kitchen plan didn't translate well into typing. I spaced it out so it was a square floor plan, but when I posted my message the gaps closed !!! Tidy wires DF !! My understairs is bookshelves.
-
I don't know the ins and out of this closure, I am not very interested really. However on the news there were protests against the closure. Some had a painted banner declaring ... "Kids Company is ARE family, not just a company" .... I presumed they meant "Our", but of the all the adults on the march, helping with preparations for the march, wanting to get their message out there .... no-one saw that it was wrong or bothered to correct it ???? English lessons not part of the activities there ???? Kings College Hospital A&E posters now removed "Are you Vitamin D sufficient? If you are sufficient it can cause problems such as Rickets, you can get free supplements from pharmacies if you are sufficient" These had been typed, printed in colour, laminated and posted around the A&E, even in the toilets ... why did it take a patient (my good self :-)) to explain to several members of staff, the difference between a deficiency and a sufficiency ????? and that it wasn't corrected earlier ??

A friend had an outbreak of moths. Sadly they also collect ancient textiles !! They had to get pest control in to fumigate. There were sticky pads around to collect any left, and monitor. They had to get what textiles they could frozen to kill the pests.

I am sure it will look lovely when finished. The patio (I get the offset thing) will weather and look less stark. It would be good,if you would be so kind, as to keep us updated of the progress, of this garden, its rare to see a garden develop from nothing to haven unless you are next-door and nosey !! Thank you.

Nope, Ive put loads of other stuff under the stairs. A fridge you can just plug in ... but a washing machine needs plumbing in and waste outlet etc, depending on where the nearest water and waste is it could be quite expensive to plumb. Even in my tiniest galley kitchen, I fitted in a under counter fridge, under counter freezer, washing machine and dishwasher. The under counter stuff made better use of the the space than a fridge freezer, there was a lovely big work top etc ... ------- double cupboard hood double cupboard ------------ shelves drawers hob drainer sink worktop cupboard drawers fridge FLOOR kitchen window freezer cupboard ------ kitchen door dishwasher washing machine shelves 2 double cupboards ?????

I think it looks fine too !! I agree with what the other people have said, when they have said it looks fine, and why the builder did it that way. Now about that bare brick wall ???? whats going there ??

"Of course people will come out of the woodwork, he's not around to contradict anything." It was that statement that rattled me a bit. Thanks.

Victims were not listened to at the time and there was lots of cover-ups, whether celebrities, politicians ... if they are alive, prosecute them, if they are dead, name and shame them. When children are abused and neglected either by strangers or family, they are damaged for life. In many circumstances they are too frightened to say anything to anyone, they are often beaten and told they are worthless, no-one cares, no one will believe them and they'll end up in a home (if not in one already) .. and they are explained away as trouble makers and problem kids. They only problems they have are made by abusers. In adult life, they can be promiscuous, not maintain relationships, be unable to commit, trust people, or have their own children etc. Many suffer life long depression, many commit suicide. Many years later, it only takes one other victim to come forward, the victim may feel justified in coming forward because it is not just them on their own, just their word against someone they have always perceived as untouchable. Its CLOSURE for these victims and they need it to move on and know that it was NEVER THEIR FAULT, they have been let down by society. Thank you.

I haven't been on buses for years. So much planning just to get a on bus now. Where to get your ticket? Do you get a travel card at the sweet shop (how long for? what zones? I don't know what ZONE my destination is, and what if I get sent from a hospital in one zone to somewhere in another?), or try and pay at the machine, some buses don't take money or give change. Its very difficult to get a bus, unless you are a regular public transport user and all clued up. My friends and I would only venture upstairs because we could smoke (fags, not crack!) there !! The best little bus journey I had recently was on a C10 to St Thomas's visiting someone. It was a very small bus. Nice people would say hello to driver and because you had to exit the same doors at the front, I said Thank you to the driver on leaving, as did other people. It was a more pleasant journey. The driver was treated with more respect than they usually are on double decker,. AND THERE WASN'T A GREAT BIG UNECONOMIC BIG BUS with empty seats clogging up the roads. More hopper buses would be great I think.

The greengrocer in Nunhead has good suppliers. I don''t think he goes to the wholesale market anymore. Its better when you can supply your own shop and go round tasting a tomato or satsuma before you buy boxes of them for sale. The best tasting tomatoes I EVER tasted were from borough market when it was a wholesale fruit and veg market. They were ENGLISH and branded Dinky"s Minnies, Tillies and Dixies or some other mousey names with mousey pictures on the box. The weirdest bag of potatoes came from HORSES BONES FARM of Romney Marsh, on the sack was their trademark a horrible horse skeleton. They were very good muddy spuds, and when we opened a the sack a toad popped out. There is a fruit and veg shop on Lordship Lane, everytime I see there display, I want to rearrange it for them so its colourful, they stick all green things together, they could break it up a bit with a red onion or some carrots etc !!!! It annoys me .. no effort !!

My first curry was not long after I had left school and started work in a large company. They had a staff restaurant. There was a nice variety of food, the curry was a mild one with sultanas in it. They must have got lots of sultanas ... they were in the grated carrots and in the beansprouts too! The subsidised bar was great too, although before spellchecker .... Deer Sir, Furher ot our telephone converstation ....

It's sad that Cilla passed away, she was a star and a proper lady, I never heard anything horrible or scandalous about her. My condolences to anyone who is in mourning. My cat died, dropped dead aged 2 and a half ... sudden death syndrome. I still miss my cat every day, more than I miss some people. Thank you.

Mr Ben reminded me of a brilliant radio 4 play. Client was a widowed councillor with a boring old faithful cleaner of many years. Sacked her in favour of a nudey nasty druggie cleaner. Nudey cleaner didn't do any cleaning and started blackmailing him. Client got in a tizzy and old faithful cleaner found out, by accident they killed nudey cleaner and she helped dispose of nudey. Order was restored. Councillor had clean shirts, polished silver and a pot roast etc !!!
