  1. Brilliant tip Loz, there's a Metro bank right next to where I work, so I'll lug the pennies there instead and keep the 7%. Cheers all!
  2. The coin star webiste shows that there should be a machine inside the big Sainsburys on Dog Kennel Hill. Does anyone know if its still there? The website also shows that there's one in Acre Lane Tesco too, but Tesco removed it a couple of months ago and its not reflected in the website, so unsure if there will still be one in Sainsburys, and its a long way to carry my penny jars if not. Cheers.

Wrong, not a good start at all! People get squished by left turning vehicles because bike lanes linked to ASLs encourage them to "scoot" up the inside of stationary traffic, right past car doors waiting to be flung open, and stop under the wing mirrors or immediately infront of vehicles, right in the blindspots. ASL are good in theory, but death traps in practice to inexperienced/ignorant cyclists. Police video highlighting how little lorry drivers can actually see in their mirrors: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uPkbNFt5NuY&feature=player_embedded Council-subsidised on-road cycle training.
  5. I voted in DV at 6.30pm and it was fine, straight in, no queue. Such is life.
  6. Its worth pointing out on the second bawdy-nan route that there's no legal right turn from Half Moon Lane to Milkwood Road, you'd have to jump the lights and time a break in traffic to cross (or get off the bike and use two ped crossings).
  7. 'Busy' roads don't suit everyone, but in my experience of commuting almost that exact route everyday, they're much safer than constantly darting down side roads, dodging speeding rat run drivers and kids with footballs etc. A good number of the larger roads I use aren't even busy at peak times - Kennington Road for instance is fine in morning, I often have the bus lane to myself for over a mile. To echo the above though, the best thing that any new cyclist can do is get road training, it wouldn't be overstating it to say that it saves lives (be very aware of the current issue of filtering alongside heavy goods vehicles).
  8. It was Helen Lederer, who does indeed live in ED.
