sainsbury local lordship lane incident
heartblock replied to jojobaby's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Yes the park run had a campaign and had donations to buy an AED, a really brilliant idea. I personally don?t think this forum is an ideal platform for a community AED finder resource, but I?m often wrong, so do feel free to add that to the lounge if you do think it is a goer. I would rather Southwark Council produced a list of community AEDs that could be sent to all businesses/organisations that have public interaction and updated every year. Maybe something one can ask our local councillors to consider? I will be contacting mine. -

If schools and other bodies register their private or public AEDs - they can be publicised on this site apparently. Unfortunately it seems that very few organisations have registered theirs in our area. https://www.heartsafe.org.uk/aed-locations I can find no information on the Southwark Council website of locations. -

No, not to my knowledge - and I think this would be useful. It's something that Southwark Council could maybe provide or investigate? Or the local St. John's? Or one of the traders groups on LL? I'll have a look on Southwark Councils website - maybe they have this info already? -

Also as I mentioned a list of where they all are - schools may have one (Alleyn's does I believe) but LL is a good place for local businesses to be aware where the nearest one is - cost of AED's not sure as have only purchased through the NHS, but I imagine around ?1000. Not sure these days as they do get cheaper with mass production. They are easy to use and some of the more expensive ones can even direct chest compressions between the shocks and tell you if you are doing them properly. I think Zoll sell quite a good one with the additional chest compression info. I'll have a look for info. I don't work for Zoll by the way and there are other manufacturers, it just that Zoll is a standard make in the NHS, named after the Cardiologist Paul Maurice Zoll, who was one of the first people to develop this life-saving technology. -
It isn't a win and this area has become a rather unpleasant place to live, partly due to idling traffic, but mainly because of the mud-slinging and unpleasant language. Elderly people insulted and Twitter accounts taking a moral high ground while victimising local businesses.

Yes ED Grove isn't the same across the whole road 35% increase in one area, 25% increase in another and 200% increase at a junction - so yes you are correct. It's bad, very bad and extremely bad. Pollution has also risen, but that is the pollution counters we the residents paid for...the council hasn't released their data yet...I wonder why? Of course all this increase was measured from different baselines for different streets, from 2017 - 2019, (I say baseline 'measured' but this old data seems half guesswork and half badly collected TFL data) and then the traffic drops......during school shut-down and home working. But of course the drop in traffic across all of London..must be due to ED and Dulwich LTNs in this period, even in London areas without LTNs (everywhere dropped in London during the lockdowns - except streets with displaced traffic from LTNs) And now - London traffic going back up and cycling going back down (again the rise in cycling - baseline Winter pre-Covid, measured against Summer during lockdowns and home working) Oh dear, wouldn't pass an undergraduate research dissertation let alone be the basis for 'proving' a failed experiment has worked.

https://johnstewartliveblog.wordpress.com/2021/10/19/the-weaknesses-of-low-traffic-neighbourhoods-as-a-policy-tool/ The main walking and cycling route in reality is ED Grove, I see far more pedestrians and cyclist on ED Grove than any of the LTNs in the morning, but in this discussion facts don't matter very much. There is no proof that LTNs in Dulwich have accelerated the increases in active travel that have been seen over the past 5 years and no evidence that pollution or traffic levels have dropped due to LTNs across the area. Of course closed roads will have less traffic. They just do not achieve that goal and distract from policy and investment in local public transport, decent walking environments and improved cycling lanes on all roads. They are a cheap distraction and if pollution levels were actively measured across all roads, it is likely that LTNs in Dulwich are contributing to an increase in idling traffic and consequently higher pollution levels.

Organic 'relating to or derived from living matter' well that's paper and cardboard, so they should be more specific.. -

I put shredded in my small hotbin, but not anything shiny as I believe that is a plastic coating? -
I haven't given money to One Dulwich as yet, as I don't agree with all of their ideas, but if they are going to legally challenge the consultation process and the oversight process and the lack of implementing policy to mitigate the EqIAs (that was poorly done and carried out after the 'temporary' measures were put in) I will certainly contribute from my rather meagre salary that hopefully keeps both myself and my partner with disabilities warm and fed this winter in our little flat on ED Grove. LTNs create HTNs in areas that can least afford traffic, noise and air pollution in terms of physical & mental health, financially , transport links and as carers of others.

Privatising an essential service such as clean water delivery was always a way to make very rich people richer, never about providing the service. It's time to nationalise and I don't mean the old way, a modern nationally owned company....and transport...and gas and electricity. But for now Thames water need to be told by Southwark to put down new pipes along the whole length of ED Grove.
-
All of ED Grove is patches of repairs, the tarmac is dreadful for cyclists with lots of dangerous small potholes, speed humps not marked or painted regularly (although painted after an event on ED Grove), the pavement uneven and very bad for my disabled neighbour. The water pipes near the Dutch Estate break regularly. There has been very little care or investment in ED Grove, even the community garden we were told would stay, was destroyed I see that some roads have new tarmac and new pavement ...guess which roads.

I saw on Twitter the noise abatement society is supporting the demo against LTNs in Dulwich as they cause more noise pollution to be funnelled into roads with higher residential densities. On another note, green local buses are one of the best forms of transport to reduce pollution as outlined in this report. What a shame Southwark has invested in a pollution making exercise for the less well off to make wealthy areas quieter and bus routes slower. https://www.uk100.org/publications/supporting-local-authorities-improve-local-bus-use-and-expand-zero-emission-bus

The LTN fundamentalists would call you car journey 'unnecessary' MCMC. The only necessary car journeys are undertaken by people living in 3 million pound houses in Calton Ave in a Range Rover or Ocado/ Flower Box Company delivering to their home via stinky 'ole ED Grove. I say keep the LTNs, but anyone living on Melbourne, Else, Court, Calton etc. is banned from driving on ED Grove and Croxted - a ?500 fee for setting a wheel on my road.
-
As much as I sometimes despair of politicians and feel annoyed when some abuse their position for personal gain, the fact that they expose themselves to so much in the process of public service can only be admired. I may fundamentally disagree with many policies implemented, but in the end at least these people did try to serve for the public good. Let's be kinder.
-
I think a pro-LTN march on Croxted or ED Grove during the school run would go down so well, but don?t get the bus here...you will be stuck in traffic flow quite a while. Also why not have a Tango lesson near the Health Centre or on the new sports area on ED Grove when all the kids are walking to school, breath in those particulates....

It wasn't an LTN thread until someone who is pro-LTNs made it one. It was alerting the forum of a nasty incident. You make a bed...then you lie in it..

I hope the person is doing ok, if resuscitated and taken to King's then they have a very good chance of making a good recovery and having tests to see if there is an underlying cause that can be treated to prevent or protect from another event, I wish them and their family well. It sounds as though someone from the public made some very good choices calling the emergency services and giving CPR and this might also be a good point in the thread for people to share or give a list where community defibrillators are accessible in the area. Almost all out of hospital arrests are a very fast unorganised heart rhythm that can be reset by the use of one of these defibrillators. So one person do CPR, one person call 999, so the paramedics can get there quickly and one go grab a community defibrillator. They are easy to use - slap on the sticky pads and it will talk to you - it can analyse the rhythm and automatically gives a reset shock, while you wait for the professionals to arrive. If there is not a shockable rhythm then it will not shock, but it will monitor the heart rhythm while you wait for the paramedics - (carry on CPR, but stand away if the defibrillates tells you to!) It would be great if the community or Southwark could fund one in an obvious place on LL - maybe one in the Library and one in EDT? Do encourage schools and other community groups to learn Basic Life Support skills - it is so important, it can keep someone going while waiting for the amazing paramedic team. -
Well a couple of things 1. Victim blaming - nope, please don?t 2. The LTNs aren?t the issue here, the issue is an aggressive and frightening attack, having a go at the original poster is not on, they are just alerting the forum of a very nasty event that happened to involve an LTN 3. I?ve seen a lot of mopeds go through Melbourne LTNs both sides, I?m not surprised scooters and mopeds ignore the rules, it?s unfortunately one of the ?attractions? of a two wheeled motorised vehicle, not condoning at all, but we all know it happens. I suppose the issue with the Village one is many families walk in the road, so it is very, very dangerous, so I think someone who is worried about safety isn?t being a busy body at all.

I live on ED Grove in a flat, so how does that fit in your picture DC.... where do you live?
-
I see where you are going goldilocks... but I think in this case I would say we don?t go there and just consider the victims of this crime.
-
Yes causality and confounding factors .... so what causes more cycling ...nice weather. Confounding factor, why less traffic....a pandemic and shutdown. Maybe Southwark didn?t have enough cash to invest in real research, so someone?s 5 year old child did it?
-
Hopefully someone managed to get the number plates. Threatening behaviour, intimidation and an attempt at damaging property. I hope the police go for a custodial sentence to be honest, a very nasty experience. The family and the cafe workers might also need to seek victims advice and help as it can cause anxiety after such a horrible encounter.
-
And also using percentages rather than actual numbers. A rise of one cyclist in Nov 2018 to 2 in June 2021 would be a 200% rise for example. I?m surprised the rises in June Summer 21 compared to winter baselines in 2017,18 and 19 were not higher in fact, I would expect far more cycling across the whole country.
