  1. Is there a ‘hotline’ 🤣 so I can dob in the house in Melbourne Grove when it burns smelly smokey wood this Winter?
  2. Ooh I must try there.. not much for vegan partner, so I will go with a fishy friend 🐟
  3. Better to go hungry until lunchtime than give money to Gail’s.
  4. It’s good we are having this discussion. My point of view is that we are definitely witnessing an attempt at genocide in Palestine, the right wing of the Israeli government have some awful views, some of the language representing the worse of humanity. Jewishness should not be conflated with Israel or Zionism, I see that has been the case for some of the comments in this thread. Conflating the actions of a Zionist Israeli Government with Jewish people is actually considered antisemitism and is a very dangerous way of thinking, leading to Jewish people in the UK feeling unsafe. Support peace and march today, I have been many times and met some lovely people. It’s a long read, but if any of you are interested in how early Israeli settlers from Europe viewed Arab-Jews and the consequences do have a read. https://www.vox.com/world-politics/24122304/israel-hamas-war-gaza-palestine-arab-jews-mizrahi-solidarity
  5. Most women are killed by someone they know, not a stranger. However I think all women moderate their behaviour when on their own, walking at night especially as they fear danger. Two interesting articles https://www.statista.com/statistics/288298/female-victims-of-homicide-england-and-wales-by-relationship-to-offender/?srsltid=AfmBOoqZ9-CIEJWe9kesKy2G_KWxjXPh-tXMRsLvKim0M6mS00dksiKH https://www.theguardian.com/education/2025/sep/23/majority-of-girls-and-young-women-in-uk-alter-behaviour-to-feel-safe-study-finds?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other Other crimes https://crimerate.co.uk/london personally I always go for the most crowded train carriage late evening and I carry my keys in my hand when walking from the train station…. It’s that fear of violence that is scary …
  6. The Labour Party is a poor advert for the Labour Party. I think this council just reflects the national picture.
  7. Absolutely agree.
  8. I like foxes, survivors, full of character and I don’t mind cleaning up a bit of poo 💩. Double gloves, tie up poo in outer layer of glove and dispose of appropriately. Bleach area. Wash hands. Garden holes… I don’t know. Maybe make a sandpit for fox use 🤣 I have never seen any one feeding them, however stupid people who leave food waste on streets and have overflowing bins maybe should be the target of annoyance, not the resilient fox. 🦊
  9. The letters against the opening of Londis complain about successful small independents- Drop, Norbert’s and the lovely coffee shop. I’m glad I don’t live in this sad, ‘gated’ community. If they could - they would add a gate and a private security presence to throw out any unwanted individuals.
  10. Yea! The students will love somewhere to buy fags, booze and take out chicken, it will be a hot spot for socialising late into the night. I’m sure the house prices will reflect the new late night social zone.
  11. Buy two packs of tinnies rather than one…. Job done 🤪
  12. Yup.. but it is amusing 😂
  13. Yes keep it open late, a nice parklet and seating for those who need a few tinnies late at night or first thing in the morning and then a nice quiet lie down un-disturbed from annoying traffic.
  14. Noise team are excellent, they encouraged my neighbours to not have dogs (basically left in the small garden for days in the Winter). I think that RSPCA requests the council first and then they call the RSPCA if they think it’s an issue for them. Neighbours were not cruel, just not capable and too busy with 4 children and sick relatives to give appropriate care.
  15. Full fibre has not been rolled out for many areas in ED and there are currently no plans to extend ☹️
  16. Ha ha …no I don’t get into any debate now, I stopped when Southwark Council stopped measuring pollutant levels on my road - so I don’t know what the current levels are on East Dulwich Grove? I imagine when the new nursery, new JAGs building and the Harris School alternative entrance on EDG open then traffic will increase. I also became fed up of being characterised as some sort of pro-car, Reform voting, vaccination denier - instead of the Green Party member, senior academic in health and someone who has actively campaigned for cleaner air for the past 40 years. So yes I’m out of this convo.
  17. Yes tell the police..give them a description… what is the case for describing here, it’s irrelevant information. What’s the percentage of people in ED fitting that description. I’m sure the Daily Mail thinks all the irrelevant information about ‘migrants’ , ‘single mothers’ ‘etc etc is ‘fine’. Once on social media it instantly affects what people think and that’s the issue. It matters. https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025/jun/27/black-children-arrested-london-more-likely-criminalised-than-white-children
  18. Were they short, tall, skinny, had a limp, hat? No hat? So narrowed down to ‘black’. What are we supposed to do with that information and why give it. Some self reflection is required.
  19. I think where the buses pass it’s too narrow and removing street parking (that residents pay for) in an area with no private parking for 70% of the road, would not be something that the council would approve one thinks, however they could have been creative using the back of the Dutch Estate and maybe widening the pavement for parts of the road to make a cycle path on one side. People cycle on the pavement anyway, so having a designated cycle ‘lane’ would make it safer. The pavement and the road surface have not been improved for over 15 years, unlike many of the side streets off EDG that have had huge amounts of money thrown at them. It would be nice to see the council to show it a bit of love….as a major route for school kids, patients and residents - I don’t think there is any political will though.
  20. Many people live on ‘main roads’, it is cheaper accommodation, than side roads, so less wealthy people live on them. Also usually more densely populated. Granted in ED “cheap” is 400k - 600k, however my neighbours are cheaper in rentals and some ‘council’ housing stock. I’m sure the young lungs of my neighbours are just as affected by pollution as young lungs on side roads. Anyway… it’s important that traffic is reduced, I can’t think of any reason apart from physical or psychological impairment for anyone to drive locally. ED is a great place to walk or cycle in. It’s the non-local traffic from private school children parents&guardians and ‘staff’ that mess up my road.
  21. I have lived in the same place for 35ish years. The tailbacks were created when the crossing traffic lights on the near Alleyn’s 4 -way was redesigned by the ‘planner’ who messed up IMO about 20 years ago. Then it was bad…but then became worse after more recent events. I would love EDG to be buses, bikes, registered taxis, emergency vehicles and residents only up to the health-centre and small shopping parade - from the Lordship Lane end, with some drop off and trade parking places - it is a school road after all. Encourage active travel and reduce pollution, which is at its height when kids are walking to school… also, if the person who keeps burning stinky wood on their wood burning stove in Melbourne Grove could stop this Winter I would be most grateful, it exacerbates my asthma.
  22. The private schools are the main issue, so JAGs and Alleyns due to wide catchment. Kids coming to and from Harris EDG seems to be on foot, bike, scooter, bus and train. However I have witnessed a car parking (in a resident zone) and two kids pile out to go to JAGs … and cycle about 10 metres. I imagine when they fill in the ‘how did you here today’ questionnaire they put down - by bike. Just as an observation, ED Grove feels and smells like the old days during Private School holidays and a nightmare for pollution at school run during the term. It’s not ‘local’ traffic.
