  1. During pregnancy with all my 3 I've had either hightlights or permanent hair dyes - it didn't cause me any problems.
  2. I was in Poland for the weekend with my eldest who is 6 and on the way to hotel was sick in the bus, then we got to the hotel and he was sick and wouldn't do anything except lie on the bed......I thought typical we have come all this way for my brothers wedding for me to spend the weekend in a hotel room. Anyway my cousin whose hubbie is a doctor, said to give him a little bit of coke( as in drink!) he was really ill and didn't want to drink any as he hates fizzy drinks but I gave him a few tiny mouthfulls, and it was like a miracle, within about 10 minutes he was up and about and stopped been sick. Whatever is in it seems to be good for stopping sickness, ideally flat coke is best. I would never have thought of that but it worked for us, thankfully and i didn't spend the weekend in a hotel room!
  3. I know when my son was in the nursery at heber the kids call the teachers by their first name but that changed as soon as they went into reception, and now son is in year 1 he has to call his teacher miss...... I wouldn't like it if he had to use his teachers first name, it just seems wrong!
  4. I'd suggest bringing some Diralite (prob spelt that wrong!) good to have for babies of adults in case of upset belly, blackcurrent flavour seems to be most popular with my kids! Also if it's somewhere very warm, one of those small handy fan's can be helpfull - When my eldest was a baby we were coming back from st lucia and in the airport it was like an oven and he was very hot and grumpy until a lady let us borrow her little fan!
  5. I do remember with my first baby who was formula fed been quite strict in terms of feeding him every 3 or 4 hours, would try and make him last as long as possible till his next feed - in hindsight all this done was to cause me a lot of stress with a crying baby, who was probably hungry but I wanted to get a "routine" set up. Now with baby no 3 it's all been a lot more relaxed, when he was tiny if he was hungry i'd feed him, he was a big baby to start with 9lb 4oz so thinking how tiny their stomachs are he did need a lot of feeding on 2-3 hour basis. At 3 weeks old they are tiny still so I would try and do what ever keeps baby happy and if that means feeding him a bit more perhaps thats the best way, until he's a little older. A happy baby means a happy mum! They grow so quickly so try and enjoy the new born baby phase for as long as possible.
  6. I haven't been but I think there is a baby/toddler group at the plough on fridays 12-3, going to something like that would be perfect for little babies, as they dont crawl or run off and you can sit and actually have (and possibly finish!) a conversation with someone! i used to meet up with some mums when my eldest was a little baby in the pub and it was great we could have a catch up and a cheeky glass of wine!
  7. When my boys have been ill and not taking milk (when babies) I offered them water with a tiny teeny bit of apple juice/ribena in , as I think it's best for baby to get some fluid even if that means putting a bit of something sweet in it to get them to drink it. Also with toddlers if they aren't wanting to drink, ice lollies are always good to have, again i think it's better when they are ill to get some sort of fluid rather than none....... I know myself when I have a sore throat I always treat myself to some ice cream to help sooth it! Hope baby gets better soon.
  8. I know what you are going through!!! My husband has always snored, even on his side and it's worse if he's very tired or had a drink. If I get asleep before him it's normally ok but sometimes during the night if baby wakes up who is next to me in cot I find it hard getting back to sleep and end up giving him a kick or dig in the ribs to stop snoring! Obv this doesn't work and I guess for him it's not very nice getting a kick in the legs while asleep but it's SOOOOOOO annoying! If it's really bad I tell him to go and sleep downstairs on the next level, we have like a sofa bed thing which he goes on or he will get into one of the other kid's beds. Weirdly they don't seem to wake up from his snoring which is a good thing. If he ends up sleeping downstairs halfway through the night we all get a better sleep which works well. I wouldn't like to go down the route of seperate beds etc I think as long as you start off together in the same bed at night and then if one moves it's not the end of the world and hopefully everyone will get some sleep. I'm dreading when the boys get older.....3 son's and a husband snoring....yikes!
  9. I've got 3 little un's and the last place I want to go with them is a supermarket.... thus internet shopping! Saves all the hassel about where to park, what to do if it rains, finding the right type of trolly etc. For the cost of delivery which is ?3.00 tue/wed/thur or free if spend over ?100 on them days I find it's a god send and one less chore for me to have to do.
  10. It drives me mad on melbourne grove between chesterfield and ashborune grove there is ALWAYS dog pooh, I have seen a big golden labrador type dog on its own a couple of times in the morning when i take my son to nursery,so I'm guessing it lives along there somewhere and its allowed to go out and do it's business.
  11. I'll try and get along too as Sam will need some entertaining soon while big brother at nursery! x
  12. I've got a 3 month old too, and I would love to be able to sit and play with him more but don't have the time as I've also got 2 other children. He spends a lot of his time on his playmat or in his little chair and dare I say it he likes the tv, as my 2 year old is fixated on the polar express and Toy Story!! As he is my 3rd I feel a bit more relaxed about the amount of time I actually play with him, he gets stimulation from watching me and the other kids. During the evening when the older 2 are in bed i give him lots of cuddles. I do remember with my first i felt I should be keeping him happy all the time and while he's awake give him my 100% attention. Sounds like you are doing loads to keep him happy so I wouldn't worry too much. I feel guilty now for not doing as much with my little un!
  13. Looking forward to hear when he arrives, hope you are getting some rest this week x
  14. Oh my god thats terrible! If ever anything like that happens you should always tell the parent or carer because it's one thing kids throwing the balls around in there, which can be a bit annoying but doesn't generally hurt that much if hit by one but to be picking up the bigger items to squash your little boy, thats awful. If you don't get any reaction or response from the parent/carer you should speak to the guy who works there and normally stands by the door in there (I haven't been for a while, he used to stand there and keep an eye on kids. Also if another kid does something dangerous like that make sure you tell them that in a firm voice, so they understand it's wrong. Dont be put off going there because of one bad experience, I used to go there a lot and my little un loved it. I always found the best session's which weren't as manic with big kids were the first one which starts at 9.30.
  15. One o clock club is great, but I can't handle it when it's raining like this it normally becomes really manic and busy, I guess like anything indoors for kids when weather is like this.
  16. I know the feeling my 2 year old hates the rain cover so got very wet on way to school this morning with his big brother! Now we are watching his fave film of the moment..... Flash Gordon!! It is on in our house at least once a day, I feel like I know the film back to front, it's a strange film but very colourful and lots of music (and fighting -which is his fave bit!!) I guess it makes a change from Cbeebies! Hopefully rain eases off and will attempt the park to run off some energy, the joy of winter!
  17. Just been reading the messages and wanted to wish everyone who is due soon good luck and hope the births go ok. Seems like ages ago since I had Sam (now 8 weeks old) Will try and get along to coffee meetup next time cant do today as have school pickup to do.
  18. I sent husband down to sign my eldest up, and he got there just before 9am and he had to wait just over 2 hours to get to the front of the que! He said it was typically manic and that the staff didn't seem to have been trained very well in the computer system (which also crashed for a while.) I'm hoping the temp of the pool is warmer after what i've been reading on hear, otherwise I will have a job getting my son into the pool!
  19. Well done Sanity Girl, great to hear he is sleeping well so far, fingers crossed he continues! Good luck to anyone else who is due around now or very soon, even though it's only been 10 days since I had Sam every time I see a pregnant lady with a big bump I think, poor thing, I feel about 20 stone lighter since having him and what a joy it is to be able to walk.... and not waddle!
  20. He's my 3rd baby so perhaps thats why he came so speedy! The other 2 labours were normal, so if i went for no 4 god knows how quick that would be ha ha!
  21. I had a baby boy on tuesday hooray! he was 5 days late, and it all happened within the space of 30 minutes!!! Waters broke 3.40, called hubby to come home with eldest son from swimming, had no contractions but a slight bit of pain in pelvis area, midwife said she would come and have a look as my waters appeared to be pale green, hubby home couple minutes before 4pm then midwife, baby born 7 minutes later at 4.07pm! So if I had of attempted getting upto kings I reckon I would have been one of those giving birth in a car stories too!
  22. I've been meaning to add my name to the list for autumn babies was due on 2nd September and not sure what i'm having (though have a feeling will be another boy as have 2 boys already!)
  23. my 5 year old get's ?2 a week on a saturday and he never forgets! I am pleased we started with the pocket money thing because he has saved up for various toys, which I wouldn't normally let him get because I think they are a waste of money or that we have got something similar already, but if he saves his money it's his choice what to spend it on.
  24. Not sure why people are so against using dummies, I've used them for both my boys, and 2 year old still has for sleeping, my 5 year old was easy enough to wean off with the bribe of a big boy toy (i think he was nearly 3) and like many people mention above a dummy can be removed, a thumb or finger cant! I found them a godsend when they were little tiny babies and wanted some comfort! Also when babies are that young I find it hard to understand why people are so hard on themselves for not doing doing certain things - before i had kids i had lots of plans of what i was/wasn't going to let them have........ how things change! Good luck!
