  1. I've just had an extension built in Worcestershire where I moved to from East Dulwich. My building quote was also for 1 metre. When they dug out the hole for the foundations they found that the house foundations went down 1.8 metres. Building control insisted that the builders match the depth of the house foundations. The builder said that the fear is that the extension "pushes" on the house foundations if the depths don't match. You therefore won't know until the foundations are dug. Best of luck.
  2. I've always thought that legalising cannabis was an obvious step to reducing crime especially when the police don't respond to any crimes anyway. Legal, controlled quality and taxed. Skunk as you say would never be legalised due to it's strength but maybe, just maybe, it would stop some progression to illegal mixes if a legal one were available. I was forced into seriously rethinking this approach though when I was reading an article recently (don't ask me where because I have no idea) where they interviewed some street gangs peddling dope. When asked what they would do if cannabis were legalised they said they would have to start mugging people instead. Somewhat dystopian when the illegal selling of recreational drugs is actually the recreation that is stopping even more violent crime.
  3. I believe the small canisters are used to hold nitrous oxide (also known as laughing gas) for their high rather than carbon dioxide which is used to carbonate water into soda water in a soda syphon. I don't think they would get much of a high from that.
  4. I sold with "No Flies" in April. Completed within 6 weeks. It won't be the same for everyone of course but Brendan and Tony are great to deal with and did a good and painless job for me. Best of luck with your sale.
  5. I agree with Applespider. I have always taken a bus to Vauxhall or Brixton and then caught the Victoria line to Tottenham Hale to pick up the train from there. It's only about 20 minutes from Vauxhall to Tottenham Hale whereas I have found the so called Stansted Express is very slow into Liverpool Street from there. There is little walking but some stairs whereas the 40 turns off before Liverpool Street at, I believe, Leadenhall street leaving about 600 yards to walk to the station.
  6. I commissioned "No Flies" in mid April. Sale complete and moved out before the end of May. Use the right people and ask a fair price and there doesn't seem to be a problem.
  7. When I posted in November about the Southwark spine I calculated 43 just between The Great exhibition and the Castle. Depends on whether you count only the ones on the road itself or those on all the corners affected. "I looked at the Southwark spine maps for the cycle route from Peckham to the Plough. The yellow lines at the junctions on Crystal Palace Road and the side roads just between the Great Exhibition and the Castle will result in the loss of 43 (yes 43) parking spaces. Now that will really upset the parking balance!"
  8. The Half Moon has won the best pub in London award at the National Pub & Bar Awards 2018. Quite a change from when it was slated on the forum not so long ago! A college estate pub the best in London. Well well. Read more: https://metro.co.uk/2018/05/25/local-named-one-britains-best-pubs-7576908/?ito=cbshare
  9. Thank you James for your hard work over the past few years. Despite a difference of opinion you were the only councillor I ever thought was worthy of the position. Even though I am not a Lib Dem supporter you got my vote. I can't believe the good citizens of Southwark have given an even bigger mandate to the Tooley street looniea after the fiasco they have made of everything they touch. I hooe you enjoy more time with your family and come back fighting in the future. Best wishes.
  10. I don't know MarkT. I would assume CPZ's are more rigorously enforced during the hours of operation by wardens employed for that purpose rather than the general infringements which occur at all hours and have to be enforced at all times.

This is simply a CPZ without a yearly charge. I suspect it would not be enforced because there would be no money to pay the wardens.
  12. I have lost all of the Com 7 channels despite retuning. According to the Freeview website "Retuning your Freeview TV or box should restore your channels in most cases. However, in some cases you may need a new aerial to continue watching all available services. For more information or help with this call the Freeview Advice Line on freephone 0808 100 0288. Support may be available where a new aerial is required." Read more at https://www.freeview.co.uk/tvchanges#Gyi3lQoAt6Gs2sXp.99 I believe from that that they may sort out and possibly pay for any changes required to your aerial. It does say that the problem may affect older rooftop aerial in particular.
  13. Hi ZT, I have tried retuning several times and still can't get the BBC HD news. I have read that the aerial may need changing but there was never a problem before and my aerial is a high gain roof mounted one so not sure what they would want it changing to..
  14. Please tell me James that "your lot", as you say, will repeal this absurd 7.5 metre blanket rule. If so you have my vote in May. Other motorists please remember this and the Townley Road junction farce, and the ongoing Dulwich Village fiasco and the removal of bulky waste service when you cast your vote in the local election.
  15. I couldn't agree more Kwayz. It has turned what was a difficult parking condition into an impossible one. The length of the corner lines in a 20 mph speed zone on residential side streets are ridiculously long. I think that the only ones that need to be of any length are the ones actually on Lordship Lane when a van parked on a corner is very dangerous. I would have fully supported lines of a suitable length to keep the pavement access clear but a house and a half or more in each direction is absurd. There is certainly no reason for that length on the side roads without right of way at all and as you say encourages cars cutting corners without slowing down. The 10 metres in the highway code is advisory and not law and would bring London commerce to a halt if applied everywhere. The only accidents I have seen on my road over many years has been when the council has allowed the right of way markings to disappear and cars both think they don't have to stop. The car haters out there will no doubt rejoice with a lot of schadenfreude but as a pensioner and a sole carer for a 95 year old I need a car as close as possible for emergencies. If I were not leaving London this year after having spent all of my life in East Dulwich I would have to apply for a disabled bay. I suspect many others will also do so exacerbating the problem even more. It is forcing us to accept that a CPZ may be the only way out for us. Their aim all along I suspect. I hope our local political masters are happy with the way that they are making our lives miserable and that the drivers of Southwark remember them for their consideration in the local elections in May. It makes absolutely no difference at all but venting does have a certain cathartic effect.
  16. No idea where Bloomberg gets it's info on London to suggest a 21% drop in Southwark house prices. Same place as Trump I expect. According to Zoopla " The average price for property in Southwark stood at ?744,750 in January 2018. This is a rise of 1.05% in the last three months (since October 2017) and rise of 0.91% since 12 months ago. In terms of property types, flats in Southwark sold for an average of ?736,184 and terraced houses for ?833,392. Which one do you trust more?
  17. If you check National Rail they are running a bus every 15 minutes from Liverpool Street to Stansted Airport. Taking 75 minutes it's not much longer than the train from memory. 7:30 arrives at 8:45 and 7:45 arriving at 9:00am. I always used to get the Victoria line to Tottenham Hale from Vauxhall to cut out the slow section into Liverpool street. A 40 bus turns off a few hundred yards from Liverpool Street station and should be quite quick early on a Sunday morning if your luggage is not too heavy. Otherwise an Uber to Liverpool Street should be cheaper than a cab all the way.
  18. I wasn't really commenting on the scheme per se although I do dislike the blanket approach to yellow lines on residential roads. I was merely pointing out that the 3 taxis in the title of this thread will seem like small change in terms of lost parking spaces when this is complete.
  19. HI KK, There is a thread about the Southwark Spine open now about two threads below this one. It directs you to https://consultations.southwark.gov.uk/environment-leisure/eastdulwichtopeckham/. Scroll right down to the bottom and click on the consulation plan.PDF link to download detailed maps about the entire route including the details about the number of parking spaces lost at each junction. It's 15Mb so most probably too big for this forum. Apologies I'm not more conversant with how to add links on the EDF.
  20. If you look at the results of the "consultation" on the Denmark Hill CPZ it states that 49% of respondees were in favour but that only 15% replied. That is actually then less that 8% in favour but the council, like the London Mayor in his surveys, will state that a majority were in approval. I know that some people will say that if you were worried then you should have replied but I think this is simply a cynical hijacking of the democratic system to just get the results that they want.
  21. I looked at the Southwark spine maps for the cycle route from Peckham to the Plough. The yellow lines at the junctions on Crystal Palace Road and the side roads just between the Great Exhibition and the Castle will result in the loss of 43 (yes 43) parking spaces. 22. A few weeks ago I was returning from a trip to Herefordshire. After a journey of several hours it is always a relief to turn into Townley Road. It signifies to me no more traffic lights to get home a few hundred yards away across Lordship Lane. Having passed the entrance to Alleyn's I found myself stuck in a line of traffic. Getting out I could see that all the coach spaces were full and yet another coach had got itself jammed across the Dovercourt junction with a van and the coach in gridlock unable to move. With traffic behind me there was nowhere to go. The other coach drivers showed no concern to help sort out the problem even though it meant they could also go nowhere. It took half an hour before the traffic behind me eventually got so fed up that one by one they backed up to East Dulwich Grove until I could also back up to get down Calton Avenue and into the joy at the bottom of that road. As much as I hate yellow lines I am convinced that they need to remove the parking on the other side of the road to the coach parking bays and rigorously enforce the no parking of any coach outside of those bays. Maybe only between 8-10am and 3-4:30pm.
  23. spelt or spelled are both acceptable in English unless you are from USA (enough said)
  24. Landcroft Road has also seen a very large increase in recent times. Maybe the school is having a much larger impact than the council said it would when they planned it. What a surprise!
  25. Hi Johnie, CPC sell the same kind of crystal for 70P each but only have them up to 50MHz. If there is a similar crystal in the receiver you may be able to pair them up by changing the one in the receiver as well to make them work together, http://cpc.farnell.com/ael-crystals/x50m000000l001/crystal-50mhz-hc49u/dp/SC08184
