Jeremy, I agree about the EDT. Got tipsy there last night ? decent beer, friendly atmosphere, good mix of people. The Flying Pig's OK too, but I'm not fond of the overloud club music on weekend nights. I only visit The Actress when a friend from out of town is around and staying with his SE22 brother nearby. And I've only been to The Great Exhibition a few times and had poor service or beer each time. Three strikes and you're out is my rule. I never go to The Plough, which is characterless, and I haven't been to The Castle since getting pissed with the kids' nursery assistants post-parents' evening about fifteen years ago. I hear it's unchanged...

If the rents have been hiked, I'd love to see how long a lamb and halloumi wrap business lasts in this location. Actually, even if they haven't been hiked. -

Which is why a trial would be wrong. Clear;ly some people don't care for evidence and 'just want something done'. If the evidence says that this junction isn't as dangerous as others, then who are you to contradict it? > And, yes, there are many other dangerous junctions > and road layouts.

Gabe Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > fazer71 -- it's a horrible junction that is an > accident waiting to happen, so yeah, it needs > fixing The figures show there are other more dangerous junctions in ED and they are not benefiting from over ?200,000. Fix those and don't just throw money at a botched 'solution' because you fear an accident might happen.

Wrong type of weeds in brown bin - now blacklisted

So when you said, "I [put] them in a heavy duty plastic bag", you meant you tipped the weeds from that bag into the bin but didn't put the bag in? -
No it's not. To clarify the OP, the film "Last Orders" (which is excellent) features some scenes filmed in Bellenden Road back in 2000. Here are some stills: http://www.reelstreets.com/index.php/component/films/?task=view&id=1225&film_ref=last_orders

ED Picturehouse - When will it open?

It's social media. Social media marketing is done by people under the age of 25. They believe that everyone else in the world is under the age of 25 too ? except for their parents and a few dribbling old people who watch "Countryfile". Even my bank talks like an excitable teenager on Facebook. -
As others have suggested, we should be very suspicious of 'trials' and 'pilots'. We had exactly the same thing with the proposed CPZ. When the council realised the degree of reiststance, their last throw of the dice was proposing a CPZ for a trial period. I asked them the simple question: what are the criteria for the trial, how will it be measured and what would constitute success or failure? They had no answer, which showed that they were simply relying on apathy once the CPZ had been in place for a period of time. They clearly had no intention of allowing the trial to 'fail'. Same with these proposals.

You questioned "we will always need cars/vans/lorries on our roads.." and I disagreed with you. As I mentioned before, cycle routes will always, at some points (possibly many), throw nervous cuclists into regular traffic. I'm questioning whether or not that's a wise approach. -

On the council website, it gives a start date of Jan 15th and an end date of Jan 20th for resurfacing Trossachs Road. That's an impressively long time for a road that's about 120m long. Still, before Christmas, it took them a week to put down about three metres of tarmac on the pavement. Conway give such a great service, don't you think? -

nunhead_man Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Need? For an able bodied person, why not cycle to > the shops and not drive? Heavy shopping? And, when it comes to the local private schools, the perpetual round of builders and scaffolders? To suggest that London can do without vans, lorries and other essential vehicles is nonsense. And does it follow that more people using bikes rather than cars makes the roads safer? There's clearly much more to it than that, as there were far more pedestrian deaths and injuries back in the 70s and 80s when there were fewer cars on the road. FWIW I rarely use the car and use public tranpsort nearly all the time. And what's more, we didn't drive our children around either apart from when they were very small. -

It's not ridiculous. Giving only partial 'safe' routes and 'bays' for nervous cyclists is not sensible. At some point, they'll come out into 'normal' traffic. What do you propose then? Nervous cyclists need help, experience and, if necessary training. What they don't need are dangerously partial, unthought out 'solutions'. -

Many thanks. -
Not sparrows - they mostly stay very near where they were born, though winter food foraging can take them further afield.
