BrandNewGuy replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Do you have a link for that? -

That was from the Twitter feed without a source. Couldn't find it on TFL or the Standard's website yet. -
Bakerloo line extension consultation open
BrandNewGuy replied to craigyboy71's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
According to the Evening Standard transport correspondent on Twitter: "Bakerloo line extension via Camberwell and Peckham Rye more popular (64%) than Old Kent Rd (49%) - TfL consultation". For what it's worth. -

If you say so, but Harris have not formally withdrawn their interest in the site as far as I know. Yes? -
Petition re Dulwich Hospital site

Maybe, but it was big enough for a 6FE secondary and 2FE primary. James Barber came up with the figures. Undesirable it might have been, but under current guidelines it was possible. I'm just saying that Charter are progressing with expansion as if it's a done deal. I don't think it is yet. -
Hear, hear. "Won't anyone think of the children?" And I made it clear in my reply to the consultation that having crossing wardens is *not* a sign that there's a big problem that can be engineered out. It's a sign that there are hundreds of kids trying to cross a number of roads at the busiest time of day. Crossing wardens are an essential part of that. I'm sure the schools have deep enough pockets to pay for them. If they get rid of the crossing wardens, that will create more risk than any engineered solution.

Petition re Dulwich Hospital site
BrandNewGuy replied to samstopit's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
From the Family Room discussion section, in case you didn't see it: "More pupil places for the new school! Following our discussions with the DfE this week, it has been confirmed that the new school?s intake will be an 8 form entry for each Year. This represents an increase of 60 places per year, meaning that more families will have children who will now be able to benefit from the Charter School East Dulwich experience. Our bid was based on a 6 Form entry secondary school, however, the DfE recognised the great need for additional secondary school places locally, as well as the high levels of demand shown by parents and supporters over recent months. They believe that the availability of space on the Dulwich Community Hospital site allows for such an increase. The Charter School Educational Trust has therefore been given the opportunity and responsibility to serve even more families in our local community. We now look forward to creating even greater success for parents. As previously communicated, we will be working to open the school with its first intake of Year 7s in September 2016. One last Push! With a larger secondary school comes the need for more space. We therefore need to ensure that The Charter School East Dulwich does not have to share the Hospital site with the proposed Harris Nunhead Primary school. The site will have the new medical centre and The Charter School East Dulwich - but it would be an extremely tight (indeed impossible?) squeeze if another primary school was added to the site." http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?29,1442312,page=4 Hmmm, so Charter are cracking on with expanding the school's size as if Harris pulling out is a foregone conclusion? But is it? -
It will end in tears ? lots of them.

The going home for the weekend song thread...come on you groovey foookers

With all the 'Yay Kanye!' 'Boo Kanye!' nonsense going on, here's a timely reminder of what Glastonbury should be all about. But isn't. Warning: contains graphic scenes of people under the influence of prodigious quantities of drugs. -
Indeed. The local police say there is no 'surge' and I believe them. It's not getting worse, so please don't be terrified.

Tiny Little Things That Cause You Irrational Rage

John Smith's. It's a bit like real beer, but pissier and more horrible. -
He also approached me tonight - clearly just after he'd been on Glengarry Rd. I was walking up Hillsboro Rd at 6.50 and when he started on his spiel I said, 'No,' and he started f'ing and blinding. He then headed off round the corner and onto Townley Rd towards Lordship Lane. I called 101 and reported it and they said they'd probably send a car to cruise round loking for him. I was tempted to call 999 as I suspect he might get more agitated and aggressive.

No rifles ? use nets, then bury them for a few weeks before eating. Like Bjork does with her puffins.

Gabe Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > This is a prime example: "the council seem only to > be interested in a solution that guarantees them > the ?200K+ cycling cash". Right. I'm sure that's > the case. Absolutely. If you'd read the thread, you'd know that the ?200K+ comes out of TFL's (underspent) fund to promote cycling. Further, Southwark themselves say, "Time is absolutely critical now for the proposed changes to Townley Road Junction. This is our very last chance. Any work must be carried out this summer, as funding will expire in the next financial year." So yes, without the cycling money, it wouldn't be happening.
-
I don't think anyone on this thread has been selfish. Mostly, they've looked carefully at the options given and decided what might be best not only for the junction but for the streets around. And if you've read the detail, you'd know that the council seem only to be interested in a solution that guarantees them the ?200K+ cycling cash. Which means that they are the ones who aren't interested in "more or less any proposal". And when you say it's a 'horrible' junction, you mean it's one with little or no accident history compared to others in the area. And are you happy for coaches, buses and lorries to use Townley Road? Or is it just Calton Avenue? I suspect the sharp elbows of a local resident...

Boozy art walk: Dulwich, Camberwell and Peckham...
BrandNewGuy replied to The Dulwich Raider's topic in The Lounge
Another good 'un. Just a clarification, though. I believe the Picture Gallery's plan involves taking people off zero hours contracts and paying the London Living Wage. Overall numbers and shift patterns is what's at issue.
