No, I didn't say they were as good as it gets. And saying you can go to Lidl or Aldi in Peckham, well, you'll still be able to go to Iceland in Peckham. The point is it's on our high street.
  2. No reason why their milk, butter, onions, potatoes, carrots, tinned beans, etc are worse than other retailers. They're exactly the same, just cheaper. All you have to do is hold your nose while you walk past the beef and gravy pizza freezer...

  4. It wasn't - it was personal details about the owner.

Yes, you mentioned this before without any evidence. Even if it were true, a car or at most two per phase not getting through cannot possibly account for huge queues on EDG. You seem not to accept that the signal timings have clearly changed.
  6. AM, they're farmed exotic creatures. I'm a veggie too, but I'm no more outraged by farmed crocodiles than I am by farmed pigs.
  7. Robbin, that's correct. The Belgians are much more civilised in this regard. Most kids' playgrounds in parks are plonked right next to a bar, so the adults can have a beer while keeping an eye on their offspring. And no howls of outrage...

Louisa's favourite pub would have a threatening looking meathead propping up the corner of the bar pretending he'd been 'in the Paras'.
  9. But the response you got was clearly insufficient because it claimed that the traffic phases(s) hadn't been shortened, just rearranged. We need to clarify if that is the case, because frankly I don't believe it.

That old chestnut - everyone has a mobile phone these days, so it's even less plausible than it used to be.
  11. Just had an email from Southwark about a survey concerning planning consultations and how they are conducted. Worth a few minutes of your time to let them know your views. There have been a number of complaints on the forum about how Southwark go about publicising planning applications etc, so do take part - and there's just two weeks to respond. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1irv0eVt_jvWO7XbHjmjGd3Rse_bPA8JFf4fMgPgrhJ0/viewform
  12. Shouldn't a tanning studio be a Ray Parlour? I'll get me coat...
  13. Poodles have parlours, too. But probably no cream...
  14. Websites offering a PayPal option that still insist on you putting all your billing and delivery address details in. No, you'll get that info from PayPal, not from me. That's part of the attraction of PayPal from the lazy punter's point of view.
  15. Get A Life - Lil Wayne Which could be sound advice for you lot still playing this b*oody game :-)

I can't see how that can be right. Changing the order of the lights (but not the timings) to have the pedestrian phase at a different point shouldn't affect the volume of traffic able to pass through from any one direction. Am I missing something? You say that it 'does feel an improvement'. In what sense? Safer? But it wasn't unsafe before. Every morning (some time between 7.45 and 8.15) I either walk to work, going up EDG and turning right down Green Dale, or get the train, walking the other way down EDG and turning left down Melbourne Grove. And I haven't noticed the lights at the junction be 'safer' in any way, but I have noticed the large queues of westbound traffic. This morning at about 8.10 I could see that the queue stretched back to the junction of Matham Grove and EDG. And, like jonl5, I too have noticed cars dipping left into Glengarry Road to get round to the Hillsborough road exit onto EDG just below the lights. Is this an acceptable knock-on effect of the changes?
  17. And a shout out for Clarkshaws and Brockley for 'normal' strength beer too. I think ED is served pretty well for real ales, Foxy - and a greater range than I can think of twenty years ago, even excluding the strong IPAs, chocolate stouts etc etc.
  18. Not exactly a break in at Dulwich Hospital, given the empty site is not accessible from the hospital. Surprised it's taken travellers so long to try this - absolute disgrace how long it's been 'empty'. I seed-bombed* the site a few weeks ago, just to add some colour and life to the place. Even if they do start building the new school / health centre next year, it's been a shocking waste of space for far too long and a huge administrative bureaucratic b*lls-up. * http://www.guerrillagardening.org/ggseedbombs.html
  19. On social bloo*y media, numpties spreading stories about things that have been 'banned' and thus being outraged. "Apparently Facebook are removing this [some political quote or other] from people's timelines, so please make sure it goes viral. Please share.." No, it hasn't been banned. Some political type wants their crappy quote to go viral by suggesting it's been 'banned'. Gove 'banned' "Of Mice And Men". No he didn't, he suggested removing it from the list of recommended titles at GCSE. Stupid, maybe, but it's not book-banning. And do kids only read prescribed books these days? If so, we've got a lot more to worry about than Michael bloody Gove. And there's another annoying 'meme' about the ASA banning a Greenpeace anti-fracking ad "because David Cameron disagreed with it". It's b*llocks, but there's that 'nasty man banning something' nonsense again. Enough!
  20. But for decent draught ale they're very good - often in towns or areas which are beer deserts. CAMRA get a lot of stick from some of their members for putting quite a number of Spoons into the Good Beer Guide, but they point out that nearly all Spoons are Cask Marque - and it's called the Good Beer Guide, not the Good Pub Guide :-)
  21. "Kings on the Rye" bus stop only recently became "Peckham Rye / East Dulwich Road". And Kings on the Rye club must have shut at least fifteen years ago.
