We ended up with a huge scheme designed for cycling even when the right turn was reinstated. You'll know that what we have now is nothing like the scheme as eventually agreed. And that has nothing to do with any 'mob'. > I cycle everywhere & every day, but I'd much, much > rather the QW didn't happen at all than that they > spend ?3M on fancy paving because the public > aren't prepared to countenance the cheap, proven > interventions (road closures) that actually work. > But as the money's already allocated, ?3M worth of > fancy paving is most of what you're likely to get. So which roads would you close here? Townley Road? East Dulwich Grove?
  2. I was thinking Dishoom for the fun angle - and that I think they would do very well on LL. I've always had good experiences in Ganapati - and never left hungry.
  3. Absolutely. Or possibly the 'small plates' / tapas style of Dishoom.
  4. We have as many Indian restaurants as we do because they fulfil a demand. Lots of people use them. Rather like estate agents shops in Putney, nail bars in Packham and brothels in Streatham.
  5. Meself and Mrs BNG will be there.
  6. Never been convinced about that 'green' pavement cleaning machine, The poor chap pushing it looks rather apologetic as it makes a few half-hearted sweeps around the station. It clearly doesn't clean properly and doesn't reach into corners or along walls.
  7. But if they admit that there aren't enough signs, it'll be easy to appeal against tickets. Nice bit of sly revenue raising, though.
  8. rahrahrah Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I wouldn't mind, but most weekends there > are no trains... Actually, that hasn't been true for quite a long while. And it only takes a minute to check whether trains are running.
  9. Just a nudge to find out if there's been any movement with the old garden centre site.
  10. ed_pete Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > No one was ever said that less > children will be driven because of changes to > junction. Yes, that is one of the aims of the cycling campaign and one of the reasons for the extra funding, to encourage children to move from cars/coaches to cycling. And I didn't say it wasn't good that the children asked liked it. I suggested that it was only a small part of how the changes should be judged.

Without that sort of information about pupils' journeys (as well as staff), it makes it difficult for anyone to judge changes and improvements.
  12. Well, he said they walked, so I assume so. So were they driven before now because of the dangers of the junction?
  13. Well, let's keep proper monitoring of all road users, rather than ask a few children and conclude that ?200K+ was well spent. As with Melbourne Grove, anecdotal doesn't trump all other sorts of evidence.
  14. I think this thread has had all the debate we need - I've learned that the police say there is not a significant speeding issue nor any recent increase in traffic on Melbourne Grove, and that Southwark's engineers do not recommend a barrier. I sympathise with Melbourneresident, but this is a forum, where lively debate is essential. To come here, speak your piece and then leave is not in the spirit of a forum. It's grandstanding.

Oh don't worry, Southwark are also planning on charging for bulky item collection (Tory cuts, don'tcha know). Watch out for a big increase in flytipping.
  16. Hear, hear. Breathtaking bullsh** from Cllr Barber and he knows it. Next time you want the road shut, do it in term time and see what happens...
  17. Here's what the Townley Rd carriageway looked like at midday...
  18. mockingbird Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > BNG > How will cyclists use the road? Do they have to > now use the narrowed highway merged with the cars? Looks like it, but they have a larger box in front of cars at the lights and I think there's supposed to be an early start green light for cyclists, but the latter might be part of TFL's current concerns.
  19. Yes, that's what I thought when I looked at the junction earlier. Apart from the build-outs and, I suspect, changes in the traffic light phasing, none of the nonsense with cycle gates etc have appeared, and despite what Matt Hill wrote above, I doubt whether these will fully materialise. So I wonder how this squares up with the ?200K lavished on the whole project? Maybe Boris and TFL should do a full audit, but of course there's an embarrassing underspend in the pro-cycling budget, so I doubt they give a monkey's. Absolute disgrace. Oh, and there will be chaos when the schools are back.
  20. Agreed re InDesign. It's not cheap, but it will do everything you want easily. If you need to manipulate images or graphics, there are plenty of free/cheap packages out there that will fit the bill, unless you're going for really high-end print.
  21. And they're doing tours on the Saturday of the Open House weekend next month: http://events.londonopenhouse.org/building/18764

Agreeing what? That the road be closed? That some (unspecified) measures be taken??
  23. Sue, I'll be able to do that with my (not free) pdf editor so if you're still stuck, drop me a line :-)
  24. Went to the Cherry Tree lateish on Friday night (after a crawl from Belair House, The Lordship and the EDT) and liked it. The garden's looking great. Nice atmosphere, friendly staff and well-priced ale. Thumbs up.
  25. North Dulwich Tennis Club is a friendly club, but not sure they offer temporary membership. You might need to drop them a line. http://northdulwichtennis.co.uk/index.html
