  1. I don't want more parking spaces! What I don't want is a school crowing about its green credentials when dozens of staff drive to work and park in nearby streets. Of course the kids can walk or cycle - none of them will be more than half a mile away. Every time someone mentions teaching staff not driving, we get the 'carrying home piles of books' scenario. This is 2015. When my father used to 'bring work home', he had a huge bulging briefcase. When I take work home, I carry a slim laptop. It can't be beyond the wit of the system to come up with a solution that works in every other area of work and society.
  2. And the Daily Mail rails against something it spent seven years campaigning to introduce...
  3. Agreed, but the school needs to be firm about its green transport policy. Why not fly the flag and aim for a 'zero impact' on the local area?
  4. They could take the 'green' initiative and insist on staff using public transport. But I suspect they won't... As I mentioned to someone from the Council, if this isn't addressed satisfactorily, I would seriously consider a local CPZ (which I opposed before). The ball is in the school's court.
  5. Interesting evening looking over the temporary and long-term plans. There's not much point going into detail here, as they'll be putting up pdfs of the presentation on the website tomorrow: http://www.chartereastdulwich.org.uk Nice to see that they're intending to keep the 'chateau' and entrance drive intact, but I still have concerns about the impact on local congestion and parking, given that there will be minimal provision for parking. Which is fine for the kids, as they'll all be local and will be encouraged to walk or cycle, but I'll be interested to know what they'll do to minimise the staff's use of private cars.
  6. I didn't say it wasn't there. I just queried why your only possible explanation was that it might have been some sort of protest. For which you have no evidence.
  7. That's fine, but they're not at the moment and the current signage is incomplete, confusing and incorrect. So no out-of-towner - or even out-of-borougher - is remotely certain of getting it right.

The trouble is this is not a blanket national policy but a piecemeal one. How is someone from outside the borough supposed to know about the 20mph borough-wide limit if it isn't properly signed?

  11. James, Just another quick nudge to see if there has been any movement on the development of the old garden centre site. Last news was February and with Morrisons selling off their M Local stores, what is the deal looking like? And if there's no prospect of immediate action, can the developer be asked to secure the demolished site sufficiently to move those horrible hoardings back off the pavement?
  12. Received this note today: "Pre-Planning Consultation Public Exhibition of the proposed options for the new school building opening in September 2016. 13. Had some great croissants in France recently (Castries, near Montpellier). Went to the 'boulangerie' nearly every morning for them. Packed with non-middle-class French people it was. The croissants were delicious - had them with apricot jam and a strong coffee on the side. I suppose they're pointless, though, as are most things I enjoy.
  14. People who read a thread they have no interest in so that they can be outraged by it.
  15. Traffic tailing back east on EDG past Melbourne Grove at 8.10 this morning. And that's before most of the local school traffic kicks in.

We ended up with a huge scheme designed for cycling even when the right turn was reinstated. You'll know that what we have now is nothing like the scheme as eventually agreed. And that has nothing to do with any 'mob'. > I cycle everywhere & every day, but I'd much, much > rather the QW didn't happen at all than that they > spend ?3M on fancy paving because the public > aren't prepared to countenance the cheap, proven > interventions (road closures) that actually work. > But as the money's already allocated, ?3M worth of > fancy paving is most of what you're likely to get. So which roads would you close here? Townley Road? East Dulwich Grove?
  17. I was thinking Dishoom for the fun angle - and that I think they would do very well on LL. I've always had good experiences in Ganapati - and never left hungry.
  18. Absolutely. Or possibly the 'small plates' / tapas style of Dishoom.
  19. We have as many Indian restaurants as we do because they fulfil a demand. Lots of people use them. Rather like estate agents shops in Putney, nail bars in Packham and brothels in Streatham.
  20. Meself and Mrs BNG will be there.
  21. Never been convinced about that 'green' pavement cleaning machine, The poor chap pushing it looks rather apologetic as it makes a few half-hearted sweeps around the station. It clearly doesn't clean properly and doesn't reach into corners or along walls.
  22. But if they admit that there aren't enough signs, it'll be easy to appeal against tickets. Nice bit of sly revenue raising, though.
  23. rahrahrah Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I wouldn't mind, but most weekends there > are no trains... Actually, that hasn't been true for quite a long while. And it only takes a minute to check whether trains are running.
