  1. Sue, Southern always run a bus replacement service if there's no train service. Trouble is it's utterly unreliable...

Just to be clear, I was being more distrustful of politicians and journalists than non-SE22ers ;-) If they're testing local opinion, it would seem only right not to include others' (non-local) opinions. The validity of non-locals' arguments or otherwise is a different issue.

So you know who's responsible for "all" these parking fears and where they live? Don't forget, the CPZ was going to reduce the number of parking spaces in the area. Oh, and don't forget that the anti-CPZ argument was not that "there weren't any parking problems", but that the CPZ didn't address them rationally or proportionately. How's the traffic/parking audit of local schools and businesses going? Yeah, I thought it wouldn't happen... So it was CPZ or nothing. Ho hum.
  4. My, the non-SE22ers are touchy today! Possibly touchier than a Bugaboo-toting, Cath Kidston-packing yummy mummy trying to get through to Fusion... On a slightly more serious note, when politicians (or journalists) appear on here fishing for opinions, it might be wise for people to state their whereabouts if they're not 'local'. I'd happily pontificate about CPZs, buggy bans, dog poo patrols etc if I knew it would have no effect on me because I lived miles away. It wouldn't necessarily negate my arguments but it shouldn't be taken as representative of local opinion.

  7. TfL's fine for bus, tube, tram and Overground info, but useless for rail in my experience...
  8. Not from East Dulwich. You can always check by putting in your journey here - and it will let you know if it's running normally or if it's a bus replacement service.
  9. ... change my name to 'Quimby'.

  11. Well, that's probably because it cost an eye-watering ?52K - God knows what for... on that basis, I'm glad it's not being funded any more.
  12. ... but in the Alice In Wonderland world of educational standards, "satisfactory" ended up meaning "unsatisfactory", so they scrapped it as one of their standards. It's all bizarre to me...

Are you playing golf (which in itself causes me irrational rage)? Oh no, that's right - you're going to the bloody office, among busy rush-hour crowds, making sure no-one can walk within three feet of you without being spiked. If you're going to use an umbrella, get an ordinary small one, you selfish eejit.
  14. A big light show on Wednesday evening to mark the "digital switchover". Could be impressive....
  15. Not so - and the French agree.

Well, UK Tourism is doing itself a disservice, then. These figures on Wikipedia, claim that the most-visited city by international visitors is indeed Paris, with 15.2 million, while London comes in at 14.7 million. And Paris is much easier (and cheaper) to get to for other Europeans, so that's not a surprising figure. Having said that, I suspect that many visitors want to see the trappings of monarchy (Buck House, the Guards, Windsor etc) rather than the royals themselves.
