Absolutely agree with the second part, he blew it, but the hope and relief (for many of us) of 1997 shouldn't be forgotten or negated just because the man is now a messianic bellend.

Please clean up after your dogs!!

An interesting solution...if information is given leading to a successful prosecution, the culprit is fined the ?1000 maximum which is used to give the informant a year's free council tax. Not sure how well it'd work (and how long before the first "snooper rage" killing case when someone sets on the person filming them) but credit for thinking outside the box: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-merseyside-39003283 -

It's a thing called nuclear weapons and other things. Like lots of things are done with uranium, including some bad things." With that level of knowledge at the top, I can't see how anyone thinks the world's in bad hands.

response to enquiry re Rye Lane Cycling

Nigello, you keep saying things that aren't the case - you never responded when it was pointed out that the plaza outside the library is not pedestrian only as you asserted. The cycle lane does not end at the road, it goes to the end of Rye Lane then curves round to the right to the puffin crossing, which is for cyclists and pedestrians alike, that's why there's a green cycle at the lights as well as a green man. They then go across to the shared plaza. You may not like the fact there's a cycle lane there but stop saying things that aren't true. For the avoidance of any doubt, here's a picture: quite clearly the cycle lane does not "end at the road which is where cyclists are meant to go" but goes round to the crossing. http://i.imgur.com/EOsSSJw.jpg -
Sue Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I have never been refused the use of a loo if I've > gone into a pub and asked politely at the bar, > even if I wasn't buying a drink. I agree Sue, I have the same experience (though it's a rare occasion I go into a pub without buying a drink!). But for people who maybe don't go in pubs generally the thought of asking and risking an embarrassing rejection is enough to put them off - that's why I like the Richmond scheme, a discreet sticker on the door lets people know they're not going to be embarrassed.

Ahah. Now I can share my feeling of having been deceived by crisps for a lifetime, via this I happened to see on Facebook today. Am I the only one who didn't know this? http://i.imgur.com/gfjfDcR.png -

Sorry, an attempt to embed a picture which didn't work. How does one do that? -

It is a sad commentary on our > society that we blame victims for the actions of > criminals - as if criminality was the expected > norm in our lives. By doing so we validate > criminal actions (by treating them as normal and > expected). Same here - my mother was telling me the other day how there was some debate in the late '60s as to whether a baby should be on their face or stomach when asleep, so sometimes she'd come out of a shop and find some well meaning stranger had turned me the other way up! But sadly it's not that sort of society any more, nobody (I hope) would think it OK these days to leave a baby outside in their pram while they went into the bank/shops whatever. It's not "victim blaming" to say don't do it, it's just common sense. Similarly if, as it seems from the OP, people are pinching dogs, it's not "victim blaming" to say don't leave your dog unattended, it's common sense. Yes it would be just peachy if we could not have to look out for criminals, leave our doors open, not lock our cars etc etc, but we can't. Accusing people of "victim blaming" for saying be careful is ridiculous.

I've never really understood the rationale for keeping (well behaved) dogs out of caf?s - my family have always had dogs wandering in and out of the kitchen and nobody's ever suffered any ill effects from them, and in pubs it's usually delightful to see how most people love having a dog around and make a fuss of it. I don't think it's victim blaming though to say I'd never leave a dog tied up outside a shop round here, any more than I'd leave an unattended small child, there are just too many odd characters about who might set it loose, walk away with it etc.

Bakerloo line extension - have your say for Peckham Rye

Last time I looked those first three stations were in central London, how does it take you an hour to get there? The OKR is in far greater need of a rail link than we are - in fact I fail to see why we need an extra one at all. -

More importantly, why are their salt and vinegar now in green packets? Green means cheese and onion and salt and vinegar comes in blue. As if the world isn't confusing enough. I'm sorry but it had to be said. ETA according to the internet it's always been this way. Well if it has, it shouldn't have been. -

I can only say that I've taken my Indian parents-in-law there (one from Calcutta, one from Goa) and they both said (and they're notoriously picky eaters to whom the concept of being polite for the sake of it is entirely foreign) it was the best Indian food they'd eaten in the UK since coming here in 1958. Make of that what you will.

We don't all > have Rendel's extravagant dining budget! Even Rendel doesn't have that extravagant dining budget! My figures were what we spent on 5th and 10th wedding anniversaries and our respective 40th birthdays, so very much special occasion blowouts...mind you, 15th wedding anniversary August, better start saving now... Yes a very acceptable meal for two with a couple of drinks can be had in Ganapati for around ?50 plus tip.

???? you had England by four so got 0.5 for being within 5 points and shared a point with RD for being closest to the score (each of you one either side). Well done both. My England by 11 proved a bit optimistic. Where Wales really lost it I thought was going for that scrum in front of the posts in the first half instead of the easy penalty - hats off for bravado but they could have gone in at half time 16-8 up, two scores ahead would have really put the pressure on England.

Phew...what a cracker.

No, you can get a redelivery on anything for which they leave a card, even if they don't leave a reference number - just leave the reference number blank on the online form.
