  1. Wouldn't bet on it, look at the number of idiots who get killed every summer tombstoning.
  2. Observed this quite a lot recently, including a couple of weeks back a guy (not particularly young, mid-20s) on Kennington Road walking out in front of a bluelit ambulance and forcing it to come to a complete stop and standing in front of it, only did a runner when the passenger went to get out. Is it a fad?

  4. Good article on the Millwall saga here: https://www.theguardian.com/football/2017/jan/27/how-local-resistance-and-press-scrutiny-saved-millwalls-stadium ETA re Senegal Fields and the "public park" - Senegal Fields was originally, as far as I can see, a residential estate which was bulldozed then made playing fields...and the original Millwall ground north of the river is now a public park, so let's just accept land use changes over time. I hold no brief for Millwall and am not even a great football fan, but I think Millwall staying around its historic location is surely a good thing.
  5. No it's still boarded outside - or was when I passed last week.

I want the same but with people bringing me dinner and making the bed.
  8. When I get old(er) I want to live in a care home that is also a pub. Is that possible? Pedestrian access for the slower of foot/wheelchair users there would have to involve longer hold times at the lights or more crossings, both of which don't seem really practical given the congestion already present. Also, as older folk are particularly susceptible to the effects of pollution, is such a choked up junction the best place for a care home? Just thoughts, I have no particular feeling about what the site should be - always very sad to lose a pub but the current derelict boarded up site is very depressing.
  9. Great cover by Australian legend Paul Kelly, seems appropriate for Mexico at the moment...
  10. The street cleaner on Copleston Road/Besant Place who, each of the three times I passed him this morning, gave me a big smile and a friendly good morning. Good man yourself, cheered up the morning for me.
  11. Presuming the OP means the wheelchair access dropped kerb for crossing, not a dropped kerb access to someone's drive?

Yeah that would be silly. Noting behaviour which appears to show a closer than would be expected relationship with the Director of the FBI who abused his power in order to help Trump get elected, maybe not so silly.
  13. Actually I believe the Egyptians were the first to use the term Great Britain ? the UK mainland was Great Britain and Ireland was Little Britain. Why can I remember that from classics lessons 35 years ago and can't remember my own mobile phone number?

He did, but only in the same way as others did, in their "broaden the debate" initiative (admittedly it looks like a bloody silly thing to have done now). SK didn't vote for Corbyn in the leadership election.

He never promised that DfT fares would be frozen, as he can't. I refer the honorable gentleman to Mr.Khan's mayoral manifesto (direct quote): "I will freeze all TfL fares and charges for the Mayor?s cycle hire scheme for four years." That's what he promised, that's what he's done. Those who point at the DfT fares, over which he has no control, going up are accusing him of reneging on a pledge he never made.

The implication being that they have a closer relationship than would be usual between an FBI director and a President of three days' standing: Comey was instrumental in stitching Hillary up with the "we're investigating her" then a week later "nothing to see here" incident which took Clinton from a commanding lead in the polls to neck and neck.

  21. ???? Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > well, apart from breaking several of his election > pledges already - fare freeze being the obvious > one but polotics is all presentation Ah come on Quids, you know the deal on that one - he has frozen all fares under TfL control as he promised in his manifesto. He can't freeze fares which have a National Rail element to them as they are dependent on what the rail companies charge. He's asked the government to join him in the fares freeze for suburban railway services but they've refused, he's asked them to give TfL control of Southern (as they'd promised Boris) but they've refused. You can knock Khan if you like (though as above I can't see where he's put a foot wrong yet and would love to see him lead Labour) but on that issue he has kept his manifesto pledge, which he never claimed was going to be a freezing of every fare - he couldn't promise that when rail fares are out of his control.
  22. It's taken longer for the scales to fall from my eyes but - as you've quoted - they well and truly have now. It doesn't matter a damn any more whether one agrees with his policies or not, with a total absence of any chance of power he may as well be spouting them on the EDF as in the Commons, for all the good they'll do. As you intimate, May is one of the least impressive PMs we've had in my lifetime, both intellectually and in terms of oratory, and he can't even best her when, as the other day, she's forced into a huge and (what should have been) humiliating U-turn. The real disappointment for me has been that I thought whatever happens, at least he's a good man - i.e. if he sees it's a disaster he'll move aside for someone who can win the election (Kier Starmer's looking quite sharp). But he seems to be enjoying the power too much and determined to hang on no matter what. Like you, I see little point in membership at the moment, especially as even if he does go Movement could quite easily latch onto another equally unsuitable candidate. Depressing times.

I don't think ? or at least my Millwall supporting friends assure me is the case ? there was ever any objection to housing, Millwall just wanted to be involved with the plans, to have their ground as part of them and keep the club at the heart of the community. It's very good news that what looked like borderline (or maybe not so borderline) corrupt plans have been scotched, a rare win for the little guy it seems.
  24. You left out "get a life" - may as well get all the clich?s of those without an argument in.
