    Tiling

Good point DR I forgot that - essential to start in the middle and tile to the left and right! When I was young and foolish (as opposed to old and foolish as I am now) I started a bathroom from one wall going right to left, looked terrible and had to start again. "Offer up", as I believe the pros say, your tiles in advance and get it so you will have equal sized cut tiles at each end (if you're really lucky they'll fit exactly without the need for cutting but this happens about one time in twenty!).

Definitely the bottom! Unless the tiles have a support underneath they'll slide down before the adhesive's dried. As DR says, check very carefully that your countertop is absolutely level - a digital spirit level (?20-30) is a good investment - if it's even a tiny bit out, don't use it as a base, nail a level batten to the wall, tile from that and backfill the space underneath afterwards. A tiny slope at the bottom can become startlingly magnified after just a few runs.

I've often wondered what subject you teach/taught, and hope and pray you don't any more - I do hope it wasn't physics.

As long as the plaster is smooth and sealed (you can seal yourself with a PVA/water mixture if not) it's dead easy really, just make sure you've got a good spirit level and tile cutter. Don't tile from floor/countertop upwards, it won't be even, start from a batten nailed to the wall (that's why you need a good spirit level) and fill the gap below afterwards. Check carefully as you go and use proper spacers (the traditional matchsticks aren't reliable). If you're not overconfident an offset pattern is easier to get looking really neat. Make sure you rake the tile adhesive (lots of tubs have rakes attached) to get the tile properly seated. Go for it! Lots of videos on YouTube etc - I'm only a moderate DIYer but I've done quite a few bathrooms and kitchens and they've always come out fine.

Hope everyone affected gets their supply back asap.

You mean Farrell I assume - shocker, no attempt to wrap and too high (although to be fair Esterhuizen was going down at the time of the hit). Very lucky to get away with it. Farrell's tackle technique has always been suspect, it's shoulder first and wrap after impact - in the current climate he's going to get a wallet-full of yellows if he doesn't change.

I'm not anonymous, this is my real name. I have no personal grievance against you. However I have read your opinions on this forum and on others and find you a despicable human being. Is that OK?

  11. Yes, I see your point - what you mean is that that level of income doesn't put you amongst "the wealthiest" even if you are in the "highest earners." Anything approaching that would do me very nicely mind.

They are surprisingly similar...in fact I'd say just about indistinguishable (and very nice).

Not taking the piss robbin, how does being in the top 3% pay bracket not make one of the "highest earners" in the country? Confused.

Ah, I see we can add zero sense of irony or humour to the antisemitism, islamaphobia and hatred of immigrants.

  16. I missed it, but Andrew Sparrow in The Guardian (who never, ever misses an opportunity to bash Corbyn, and usually rates PMQs a win for May even if it's rated a win for Corbyn elsewhere) said: That sounded like a high-score draw; May and Corbyn were both on form, and they will probably both head off for lunch chalking that up as a success. May?s line taunting Corbyn for saying in the past that the extra money for the NHS would require tax increases when it didn?t in this budget (but only because the OBR?s better-than-expected forecasts magicked up some extra money ? which may well disappear as forecasts get revised in the years ahead) was effective, and she milked Labour?s confusion about whether or not it backs tax cuts for higher-rate payers for all it was worth. Tory MPs liked her performance, and their cheers at the end were the loudest May has heard for some time. But if May was hoping to properly up-end Corbyn over the tax issue, she failed. He brushed aside her attack relatively easily (largely by ignoring it), and his own questions were pertinent and powerful. May did not even try to answer his question about welfare cuts, and his point about community policing was particularly effective. It is a sign of how much Corbyn has evolved as a leader that he can now stand at the dispatch box championing more spending for the police, and no one thinks he sounds inauthentic (because he doesn?t). Today he never quite managed to deliver a knockout blow, but the very fact that he held May to a draw only two days after the government unveiled the highest-spending budget for a decade or more probably counts as a win of sorts.

Get on at Sainsbury's, ED station or outside ED hospital, if you get off at Druid Street you're less than half a mile from Guy's cancer centre (which I know can seem a marathon in the midst of chemo). Wishing you a swift and full recovery.

Not five years owned by me - I am a bit of a traditionalist but once you've tried electric...have discs on the MTB, I've yet to really see the need for them on a road bike if like me you almost never take the road bike out in the rain - rain is for MTBs or the turbo.

It is, but there's nothing to stop one removing it at once, it's not a legal requirement for riding. Personally I think that in traffic-heavy environments the voice is more effective, it's actually possible to shout politely if you try!

I came to him late after being brought up on Beethoven and Mozart, I felt I understood their genius better once I'd found the source, as it were (sorry for sounding a bit precious). The cello suites (the Yo Yo Ma recordings are excellent) and the Goldberg Variations (I like Murray Perahia in those) are a great introduction. If you like Jesus' Blood have you heard the Tom Waits augmented version? Superb.
  22. I went for black and slap a fluorescent Sam Browne over it if out at night. You're right, yellow filthies up very quickly in winter. I rather like Decathlon for its weirdness - full-sized models of horses, tanks of water in which one can try out snorkels, what's not to like? Not too keen on the security though, had a bit of a turnup a few months ago with the doorman who wanted me to prove that my five-year-old Ultegra Di2 road bike, which they haven't sold for four years, hadn't been lifted off the rack (it was, as usual, filthy). Manager was very apologetic though.
  23. I'm very happy with my current budget Btwin 100 from Decathlon - light, warm, snug fitting enough to look almost like a racing jersey when on a serious road ride but also looks like a fairly normal jacket if just riding to the pub. The text on the website sells it a bit short; it says "water repellent", I've ridden with it for hours in the rain without any getting through, and "good for cycling in cold weather on short rides", my longest ride wearing it last winter was 93 miles in temperatures varying between -2 and +2 and (with suitable base layers) I stayed warm and comfortable the whole way. https://www.decathlon.co.uk/100-warm-cycling-jacket-black-id_8343186.html
  24. Please be warned that the OP is, firstly, not telling half of the story, and that, secondly, he appears to have very peculiar ideas of the legal process; I left a comment on his Twitter feed to the effect that aggressive behaviour towards single women in parks was not, perhaps, a good idea, he sent me a PM saying I would be prosecuted - when I replied somewhat robustly telling him to go right ahead he then sent me a PM saying I would be reported to the police. Neither of these threats have, of course, been carried out.

Some cyclists do go too fast through that section, but 50% of people leaving the station have eyes glued to their 'phones and earphones in as they walk straight into a clearly marked shared path without checking...
