  2. SGN's website says they will be closing the road in sections: "We'll be working in Rye Lane in six phases from Hanover Park towards Sternhall Lane. Each phase will last between approximately six and nine weeks and we'll need to temporarily close a section of Rye Lane to through traffic around our work area." It certainly doesn't look as though the whole road will be closed for the whole year. Their leaflet might help: https://www.sgn.co.uk/uploadedFiles/Marketing/Pages/Publications/Docs-Roadworks-Leaflets/SGN%20Customer%20Leaflet%20Rye%20Lane%20Peckham%20SE15%20181015.pdf

  4. Good tactic and no sympathy for any mugger who gets hurt as a result. Very good effort by the Met. Very interesting lesson about perceptions and reality though: looking on here and many other social media outlets over the last year one would definitely get the impression that this problem was getting worse and worse, whereas in fact it's almost halved.
  5. Well said Sue. Prepared to bet the majority of drivers briefly held up kept their engines running whilst complaining about the pollution it was causing. Standard car driver logic. Of course on days there aren't brief protests London's traffic flows like water and the cars emit Chanel no5... It really pissed Jim Davidson off, that's good enough for me. The protesters made sure all emergency vehicles were allowed through and an LAS spokesperson on the radio said there had been no significant delays.

Salaried GPs are paid by hours worked, whereas partner GPs receive a percentage of the monies allocated to their practice per patient, so they are effectively paid according to the size of the practice list. The Lister Primary Care Centre is at 101 Peckham Road - opposite the Best Western Hotel (the one with the Del Boy Robin Reliant outside) at the end of Lyndhurst Way.

I've booked four redeliveries in the last couple of weeks and they've all come on the promised day. Might just be lucky though!
  8. The Market Porter in Borough Market has a lovely dining room upstairs with reasonably priced quality food, much of it sourced from the market itself. If you happen to have any kids amongst your guests they will be mighty impressed by the fact that the pub featured in a Harry Potter film!

  10. Still can't quite believe that someone went to buy a table and chairs, looked at them, bought them, took them home, then decided they weren't up to what they'd been told and called the police. Called the police. Sorry, that is utterly bonkers.
  11. Cherry Tree certainly is.
  12. I admire your thoughtful arguments - out and about so can't give the length of response deserved, but pretty certain if I started a thread as you suggest admin would remove it sharpish.
  13. Leaving aside the personal, about which I care little and I make no apology for attacking antisemitic racists on here, you're making a rather huge assumption that one side in this dispute is in the right. Why so certain?
  14. Really surprised that one forum member is allowed to set up a whole thread for the purposes of attacking another member over an alleged bad transaction. Not a good precedent.

I know people who work in the police service, trust me they are not interested in your dining table.

  18. 101 is for crimes that do not require an emergency response. It's not for vendor/buyer disputes. IlonaM is quite right, don't waste police time on commercial issues, they've got rather more important stuff to deal with. ETA Actually find it unbelievable that - from the evidence of your other posts - you're trying to involve the police because you're unhappy with the quality of a dining table you've bought! Pack it in.

It would depend on the circumstances Cazz, you don't give enough detail - if you're a woman and it was a big bloke ranting at you I would get involved, or if you were elderly and he was young...if it was two blokes of equal size and age I might leave you to it - last time I suggested to two blokes having a standoff like that that they weren't getting anywhere and doing nobody any good they both turned on me and I had to scarper sharpish! Obviously upset you though, just remember he's a tosser, you've done nowt wrong, brooding on it is what he wants you to do.

Clean, well laid out, good range, and importantly, unlike Sainsbury's Local and Tesco Extra, doesn't only offer the more expensive wines - decent Fairtrade Chenin on offer at ?5 a bottle. Definitely a good addition to the, ahem, 'hood, especially for those of us down near the station for whom the LL outlets are a bit far to walk to get supplies for surprise guests.

Train from Lewisham Station to Ladywell takes three minutes, from there 200m walk across the park to the hospital. Or the P4 goes from Dulwich/Lordship Lane estate/Horniman to Ladywell.

  24. The Prime Minister has stated that in cricket terms, she is a Geoffrey Boycott, who can plug away and finally get the runs (or roons). One wonders if she recalls the 1979 World Cup Final, in which Boycott played so ridiculously slowly, thinking of nothing but his own wicket and ego, that we made 129 runs in 38 overs and lost the match by 92 runs. Johnny metaphor can be a tricky cove, Mrs.May.
  25. All fair points - except for the one about FCB, why can't that be made entrance and exit only from Windsor Walk, it's not much to ask for people to walk ten yards round the corner to get their coffee before entering the station, is it? Perhaps several of the difficulties could be ameliorated if it wasn't compulsory (so people could go against the flow if necessary, e.g. if needing the lifts) but suggested, either by staff or signage? At Twickenham station last Saturday with the rugby crowds there were two members of staff monitoring the traffic flow and shouting, "More space if you go down to the left" or "Get through quicker on the right" - it helped a lot. Temporary (second) entrance on Champion Park fair idea though very expensive I would imagine as it might require reinforcing the embankment etc. I haven't seen any explanation of why the boarded-up building just down from the corner of Windsor Walk (old ticket office or exit?) couldn't be knocked into a temporary entrance/exit with card readers, that would appear to be a low-cost measure.
